GOAL predicts how the Indomitable Lions might line up against the Red Crosses at Al Janoub Stadium

Cameroon will launch their campaign in the 2022 Fifa World Cup finals in Qatar with a Group G clash against Switzerland on Thursday.

The Indomitable Lions will be making their eighth appearance at the global competition. They have also featured in the tournament four times in a row between 1990 and 2002.

Apart from Switzerland, Cameroon will also face Brazil and Serbia. Below, GOAL predicts how coach Rigobert Song could line up his starting XI against the Red Crosses at Al Janoub Stadium.

  • Andre Onana Cameroon

    Goalkeeper: Andre Onana

The experienced Onana is having a great season in Serie A with Inter Milan and this will likely give him the nod to start for the Indomitable Lions.

With a good defence around him, the 26-year-old Onana can effectively shore the central Africans up at the back.

  • Jean-Charles Castelletto Cameroon

    Centre-back: Jean-Charles Castelletto

The 27-year-old has been impressive for Nantes in Ligue 1 and he will likely be drafted into the left-back position.

Castelletto can read the game well and is often an asset when further up the pitch.

  • Nicolas Nkoulou Cameroon

    Centre-back: Nicolas Nkoulou

The former Watford defender is one of the most experienced players in the Cameroon squad and coach Song will likely partner him with Castelletto.

Nkoulou's ability to challenge for aerial balls will be vital for the Indomitable Lions as they seek to upset the Red Crosses in the group opener.

  • Nouhou Tolo Cameroon

    Left-back: Nouhou Tolo

The 25-year-old Tolo, who features for Seattle Sounders FC in Major League Soccer, has been a regular under Song and will likely keep the left-back spot against Switzerland.

He has the required pace to move the ball forward and his crosses from the left can help the Cameroon strikers to push for goals. He has one MLS goal for Sounders and two assists to his name.

  • Collins Fai of Cameroon.

    Right-back: Collins Fai

Fai, who plays for Saudi Arabian club Al-Tai, has the tendency to overlap and this will help Cameroon to attack Switerzland.

He currently has two assists to his name in the Saudi Pro League and is a sure bet to start in the fixture at Al Janoub Stadium.

  • Martin Hongla of Cameroon.

    Central midfielder: Martin Hongla

The 24-year-old Hongla made his debut for Cameroon on November 16, 2020, in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Mozambique and has since been a regular in the side.

With over 18 caps to his name, Hongla has the power to run rings around the midfield and will most likely be handed the role against Switzerland.

  • Andre Zambo Anguissa of Cameroon.

    Central midfielder: Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa

Zambo Anguissa recently extended his contract with Serie A outfit Napoli following his superb start to the current campaign.

He has scored two goals and provided three assists in Serie A and this will likely give him a direct ticket to start in the same role against Switzerland.

  • Bryan Mbeumo

    Attacking midfielder: Bryan Mbeumo

The 23-year-old Mbeumo will likely play his first World Cup match for the Indomitable Lions against Switzerland.

Mbeumo is having a great season with Brentford in the Premier League, having scored three goals and provided one assist.

  • Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting Cameroon.

    Forward: Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting

The 33-year-old Choupo-Moting will be the star attraction for the Indomitable Lions in the Gulf nation following his superb performances for Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga and Champions League.

Choupo-Moting has six goals already in the top flight and provided two assists and coach Song will hope he carries his goal-scoring form to the World Cup finals, especially in the opener.

  • Vincent Aboubakar Cameroon 2022

    Forward: Vincent Aboubakar

Another player Cameroon will be banking on for goals is striker Aboubakar, who features for Saudi Professional League club Al Nassr.

The 30-year-old Aboubakar is good in the air, can turn half chances into goals and can punish any mistake by defenders in the danger zone.

  • Karl Toko Ekambi of Cameroon.

    Forward: Karl Toko Ekambi

On a good day, Toko Ekambi can be a threat to any defenders and it is the reason he will likely lead the attacking role supported by Aboubakar, and Choupo-Moting.

The 30-year-old, Toko Ekambi has notched four goals for Lyon in Ligue 1 and provided one assist.
