Lozano is widely recognized by his nickname Chucky, after the doll of the Child's Play horror film series. He reportedly got the moniker during his youth career, as he used to hide under team-mates' beds and scare them.

"It was approximately two months ago that I arrived in Pachuca. I was living with my coworkers," he explained, "where I used to hide under the bus seats and beds and scare my coworkers."

“At the time, two coworkers approached me and asked, ‘Would you like us to call you Chucky?' And I said 'yes, no problem, it doesn't bother me'. And that's how Chucky Lozanor was born, and they've been calling me that ever since."

Lozano grew up in Mexico City. His mother was Ana Maria Bahena and his father was Jesus Lozano. Hirving Lozano was brought up in a white Mexican family who had Spanish linkages.

About 90 kilometers north of the capital, in Pachuca city, is where his football skills were honed. He grew to prominence in this city, developed a strong will to succeed, and rose through the ranks of his youth club.

His father made sure that Hirving and his brother were introduced to football early to stir up their desire to become professional footballers. Football finally succeed through Lozano and lifted the entire family out of poverty.

Although Lozano’s career is still young in the football world, he has picked up seven red cards already during his short time in senior football, that’s besides one he got while in his country’s under-23 competitions.

Lozano has been criticized for a lack of discipline: railing against authority during his time with Pachuca, being involved in on-field incidents with little provocation.

Lozano's talent has made waves ever since his Pachuca days. The Mexican attacker has a habit of making his mark on his debuts. He is the first Mexican player to score in his debut match in the Eredivisie, Serie A, and the Champions League.

He marked his Eredivisie debut against AZ Alkmaar, on his Serie A debut against Juventus and his Champions League debut against BATE.

His performances at PSV earned him global recognition and attracted interest from multiple clubs across Europe. Napoli were the club to secure his services for €42 million, making him the most expensive Mexican player of all time.

Lozano went on to score 34 goals in 60 appearances for them in his two seasons there and earned a move to Italian side Napoli for a fee of €42m for the then 24-year-old winger, making him the most expensive sale in PSV's history and the record still stands tall to this day.

Napoli splashed a lot of money to secure the services of the exciting Mexican talent who had taken the Eredivisie by storm. Joining the Naples based club for a reported fee of €42 million, Lozano became the most expensive signing in Napoli's history, a record later broken by the transfer of Victor Osimhen.

On his Serie A debut, Lozano came on as a second-half substitute, scoring against Juventus in a 4-3 defeat. In three years, the Mexican winger has become an important part of the Naples-based side.

Lozano made waves at the CONCACAF U20 Championship in 2015 when Mexico won the title. He finished with five goals and shared the Golden Boot award along with United States midfielder Romain Gall. Lozano was also named in the tournament's Best XI for his solid performances.

International federation of football history and statistics voted a team of the decade (2011-2020), announced in January 2021, where Lozano was named alongside the best players from that region, alongside names like Chicharito and multiple Champions League winner Keylor Navas.

Lozano earned a lot of plaudits for his exploits at the 2018 FIFA World Cup with Mexico and for his domestic season in the Netherlands. He stood out with his club side, PSV Eindhoven, scoring 17 goals in 30 Eredivisie matches during the calendar year and four goals in eight UEFA Champions League matches.

He was rewarded with the best CONCACAF player of the year in 2018 for his strong performances.

Lozano married his high school sweetheart Ana Obregon in 2014. The pair met in Pachuca and married shortly before Chucky made his professional debut in 2014, when he was 18 years old.

The couple have two children; a daughter born in 2014, and a son born in 2017.
