- Balogun scores his second USMNT goal
- USMNT won 4-0 in friendly match
- Is the second game Monaco striker has started in a row
WHAT HAPPENED? The 22-year-old scored his first goal of the September international break, tapping home from close range after Sergino Dest blasted a shot from distance that was parried away towards Balogun. After a quiet showing against Uzbekistan last weekend, the Monaco forward reacted quickly to capitalise on Ibrahim Al-Mukhaini's error and find the net in Minnesota.
THE BIGGER PICTURE: For the second straight match, USMNT boss Gregg Berhalter opted to give Balogun the start, and this time around he repaid the coach's faith in him. Indeed, Balogun scored the first of four goals en-route to a big victory for Berhalter and co, their second in a row without conceding a goal after the 3-0 victory over Uzbekistan.
WHAT NEXT FOR THE USMNT?: The USMNT will get a much tougher workout in their next assignment as they face Germany in an international friendly on Saturday, October 14. The game will represented a decent yardstick for how far the group has progressed since the World Cup.
