Manchester City transfer news and rumours: Matheus Nunes misses training in effort to force City move

According to the BBC, Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Matheus Nunes missed training in an attempt to force the club to let him leave for Manchester City. The 25-year-old has been subject to two bids from the Cityzens, with Wolves turning down City’s first offer of around £47m. The Manchester giants have since tabled a second bid of around £60m which they’re confident will be enough.

But the BBC has revealed that Wolves are unhappy with Nunes’ behaviour and are set to fine him after he missed training on Sunday and Monday without permission. However, despite that, the Molineux side are still in talks with City and fully expects the Manchester side to meet their valuation.

According to Mundo Deportivo, highly-rated Barcelona youngster Pau Cubarsi turned down a lucrative move to Manchester City in favour of staying at the Camp Nou. The 16-year-old is highly regarded within the club’s youth academy and by manager Xavi Hernandez. So much so, that the defender was named as a part of Barcelona’s squad to face Villarreal.

However, this came after Cubarsi reportedly rejected a move to City with the Premier League side very keen on adding him to their roster of young talents. But Mundo Deportivo has revealed that Xavi played a key role in keeping the 16-year-old at Barcelona, with him signing his first professional contract in July.

According to The Telegraph, Manchester City are prepared to table a second bid for Matheus Nunes after their first offer of around £47m was rejected by Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Cityzens are in the hunt for a new midfielder and believe that the 24-year-old is the right man for their project. But Wolves are proving to be tough negotiators, with the club looking to get the most out of the deal.

The Telegraph has reported that City’s first bid fell well short of Wolves’ valuation although the two sides are still in talks over a potential move. However, despite that, the Independent has revealed that the Cityzens will step out of the deal if they do not believe the valuation is value for money.

In an official statement, Manchester City have confirmed that they have signed Stade Rennes star Jeremy Doku in a move worth around €60m. The Cityzens have been heavily linked with a move for a new attacker and while reports indicated that they had a shortlist, Doku was at the top of that list.

As per the Daily Mail, Manchester City are looking at Eberechi Eze as an alternative to Lucas Paqueta after their move for the Brazilian collapsed. The Cityzens had reached an agreement to sign the 25-year-old but betting allegations levelled against the midfielder saw the move collapse. The club are now looking at alternatives and reports have indicated that Eze is at the top of that list.

However, the Daily Mail has revealed that the Eagles will demand north of £70m for the 25-year-old but Eze only has two years left on his current contract. That combined with the fact that the midfielder would be open to the move has City confident that they can get a deal done.

According to Sky Sports, Manchester City are still interested in signing Lucas Paqueta and could make a move again in January for the Brazilian. The Cityzens and West Ham had come to terms over a fee of around £80m but City stepped out of the race after an FA investigation into him over alleged betting breaches came to light. The 25-year-old has since denied the claims and reports indicate that there is a small chance City will go through with the deal now.

However, that could change in January as Sky Sports has reported that sources close to deal believe that City still remain interested and will return in January. But that depends on how the FA’s investigation into the midfielder goes as any potential move hinges on Paqueta passing the inquiry.

According to the Daily Mail, Manchester City had reached an agreement with West Ham over an £85m fee for Lucas Paqueta. However, the move collapsed because he is being investigated for potential betting rule breaches. The 25-year-old had been linked with a move to City this summer and while the Hammers had rejected a bid of around £65m, the two sides were still in negotiations.

That has now broken down after it was revealed that the FA was investigating Paqueta over potential betting breaches that the midfielder has since denied. It saw the 25-year-old omitted from the most recent Brazil squad and reports have indicated that it was because of the allegations.

As per Le Parisien journalist Benjamin Quarez, Jérémy Doku has agreed terms to sign for Manchester City this summer although negotiations are still ongoing over a fee. The Belgian has been the club’s top target to replace Riyad Mahrez this summer although West Ham are also in the running.

Quarez has revealed that the agreement is only between Doku and City as the club are still in talks with Stade Rennais over a potential fee. Furthermore, Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Ligue 1 side wants around €55m for the 21-year-old, and have already rejected an offer below that from West Ham.

According to Sport, Barcelona have reached an agreement in principle with Manchester City over a potential move for Joao Cancelo this summer. The Portuguese full-back has been out of favour at the club since January 2023 and has been linked with a move away this summer. However, despite being linked with a move to several European sides, reports indicated that Cancelo only wanted Barcelona.

But while the La Liga side’s financial issues made negotiations tough, Sport has revealed that City and the Catalans have come to an agreement over a season long loan-deal. Not only that, the loan agreement has a purchase option of around £30m, which will be activated if a series of objectives are met.

According to the Daily Mail, Manchester City are asking for at least £30m from any potential suitor for Cole Palmer as interest in the 21-year-old builds. There’s uncertainty surrounding Palmer’s future at City as the youngster reportedly wants to leave in a bid for more game-time. However, that was responded by the Englishman playing in the club’s last three games this season.

At the same time, Pep Guardiola has also admitted that Palmer could be sold although the Daily Mail has reported that City believe that youngster is worth more than £30m. That could deter suitors like Borussia Dortmund although the German side are still keeping a close eye on proceedings.

Manchester City is reportedly one of the few European giants not involved in a potential bidding war for Kylian Mbappe this summer, according to the Daily Mirror. The Frenchman's hesitation to sign a contract extension has sparked rumors of a possible exit from PSG, leading to interest from several top clubs.

However, the report states that Manchester City, despite having the financial means, are not among the clubs pursuing Mbappe. Instead, they are focusing on strengthening other areas of their squad and believe they already have one of the world's best forwards in Erling Haaland.

Manchester City have confirmed that Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez completed a £30m move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli. The 32-year-old signed a contract until 2027 as reported by Fabrizio Romano and is reportedly set to earn £750,000-a-week. Mahrez was given permission to miss City's pre-season trip to Japan and South Korea to finalize the transfer.

RB Leipzig has set a deadline for Manchester City's pursuit of Josko Gvardiol, as reported by The Daily Mail. The Bundesliga club wants the deal to be concluded before the start of the Premier League season. Despite ongoing negotiations for months, the two clubs have yet to reach an agreement on the potential fee for the Croatian star.

While personal terms have reportedly not posed any issues, the Cityzens have not met Leipzig's €100m demands. In light of that, the Mail has reported that the Germans have set the start of the Premier League season as a deadline as they want their squad settled before the Bundesliga season begins.

Sport Bild reports that Manchester City has made a world-record bid of £85m, along with add-ons, for RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol. The Croatian center-back has been a subject of strong interest from City but an agreement with Leipzig is yet to be finalized. According to TV2 Sport, Portuguese giants Benfica and Sporting are looking into a potential move for Manchester City starlet Oscar Bobb.

The report has indicated that Benfica and Sporting aren’t Bobb’s only suitors with Brighton & Hove Albion considered to be the front-runner for the 20-year-old prodigy who has yet to make a first-team appearance for the Cityzens.

However, the Sky Blues are keen on keeping Bobb at the Etihad Stadium beyond this summer as they believe the Norwegian can make an impact. So much so, that TV2 Sport has further reported that even a potential fee worth around £15m won’t be enough to sign Bobb this summer.

According to reports from Sport, Manchester City have set a €50 million asking price for Joao Cancelo, amidst interest from Barcelona and Arsenal. The 29-year-old full-back is reportedly out of favour at Manchester City, therefore the club is unlikely to loan Cancelo out and would prefer a permanent deal for the Portuguese international.

However, as noted by Sport, City's €50 million asking price has made it extremely difficult for Barcelona to acquire Cancelo, as the La Liga giants were looking for a more affordable deal. Yet all hope is not lost for Barcelona as Sport has additionally reported that the La Liga side believe they could get City to reduce their asking price if Cancelo doesn't leave before the window closes.

It is thought that talks between the Champions League winners and Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig have progressed positively and agreed upon a world-record transfer fee for a defender.

Romano adds that Gvardiol has already agreed personal terms and has completed the first part of his medical with the move on the cusp of being completed.

Manchester City have announced the signing of midfielder Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea. Kovacic had just one year left on his contract at Stamford Bridge and was free to leave this summer, with City pouncing on and securing a deal which will cost them an initial £25m, with a further £5m in add-ons.

Riyad Mahrez is vying to stay at Manchester City and run down his contract at the club. The Algerian winger is linked to a move to Saudi Arabia after being left short of minutes under Pep Guardiola this season.

Having rarely featured in City's starting eleven since the turn of the year, Mahrez was tipped to leave for a club that could offer him more playing time. But the Algerian international has brushed aside these rumours while being on international duty.

Former Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker has suggested that Arsenal are closing-in on German midfielder Ilkay Gundogan. Mertesacker has spoken about the situation during punditry duty with German broadcaster ZDF, as quoted by the Metro.

Saudi Arabia have turned their attention on Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez this summer after being rejected by Lionel Messi in recent hours. That's according to a report from CBS, which says Al Ahli are interested in signing Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez.

The Saudi Pro League side's club president Waleed Muaath is reported to have flown to London to join PIF delegation in their attempts to sign the winger, who still has two years left to run on a contract that he renewed just last season.

Benjamin Pavard wants to leave Bayern Munich this summer, in a development that has put Manchester City on high alert. That's according to Sport1, who say Pavard has actually now put in a transfer request at Bayern.

It is claimed that Thomas Tuchel has been hoping that Pavard would stay. But the defender has seemingly made up his mind. He wants out of Allianz Arena, and apparently he has no shortage of suitors, including in Spain, England and Italy.

Pavard wants a fresh challenge in another top European league. Pavard’s contract with Bayern expires in the summer of 2024 and so, Bayern could be forced to cash in on him rather than losing him on a free transfer next summer.

Manager Pep Guardiola extended his contract with Manchester City until 2025 in November of last year, with reports yesterday claiming that the Cityzens are now also lining up a contract offer for star striker Erling Haaland, and that Haaland’s €150m release clause is no longer valid because of the manager signing an extension.

However, according to AS journalist Marco Ruiz, the latest revelation hasn't fazed interest from Los Blancos, who are working on convincing the Norwegian front-man to swap Etihad Stadium for Santiago Bernabeu as early as 2024.

As per the report, Haaland’s Man City future has nothing to do with Guardiola’s continuity. The 22-year-old's current deal with Manchester City runs until 2027, he can think of leaving in 2024 and the variable release clause remains intact in 2025 and 2026.

The only change between these three periods is the price tag. If Madrid wants to land him in 2024, they will have to spend more than €220m for his signature. Surprisingly, the asking price will continue to decrease as he nears the end of his contract.

According to Fichajes, Chelsea are considering making a move for Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez in the summer to reinforce their attack.

Alvarez is reportedly disappointed with his game time at Manchester City and will request a transfer away from them if they don't make him a more regular member of the squad.

Chelsea are unsure about the futures of Armando Broja and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and see as an ideal candidate to replace them, states the report.

According to a report from Fichajes, Real Madrid believe Ferland Mendy and Dani Carvajal, the first-choice full-backs at the club, are well past the level needed to play for the club.

The report further states that Los Blancos are firmly interested in João Cancelo and will submit a bid around €60 million to secure the 28-year-old's services, who's currently on loan at Bayern Munich.

Manchester City have made an attempt for the signing of Efe Sarikaya from Turkish side Altay, their technical director Tuna Uzumcu revealed in an interview with Radyospor (via Fanatik).

The club chief revealed that there have been three offers for Sarikaya, with one of them being from Manchester City, even though the numbers weren’t disclosed.

“Official transfer offers from Manchester City, Atletico Madrid and Sevilla clubs came for Efe Sarıkaya. However, our player is open to development and we have not accepted the offers at this stage.” he said.

According to a report from 90min, Manchester City want to sign Bayern Munich right-back Benjamin Pavard in the summer, with Manchester United and Real Madrid reportedly interested too.

Pavard's contract with Bayern runs out in 2024, and although the club want to extend his contract, the Frenchman wants to wait until the summer before making a decision.

"There are currently no talks with the club, we're focused on our season goals,” Pavard said publicly earlier this week.

"I'm just trying to play my best football and win trophies. We'll see this summer.”
