Commentary

That's all from us, we hope you enjoyed the game. Until next time, goodbye!
A 1-0 away win gives Bayern the advantage going into the second leg, with the Bavarians likely to be confident their unbeaten home record this season will stay intact. The March 8 clash at the Allianz Arena will see PSG need to attack from the off in order to reverse their deficit, but if Kylian Mbappe is indeed fit enough to start that game, have no doubt that he and his team-mates will do exactly that in Munich.
Mbappe's introduction changed the entire nature of this game, notably giving Neymar and Lionel Messi much more freedom to do what they do best after the pair were passengers for much of the first hour. Neymar in particular became significantly more dangerous, finishing the game with three shots, one of which was on target, and nine touches in the box from five final-third entries. He completed a key pass and four crosses, with a final-third passing accuracy of 92 per cent, as well as making two clearances and winning two free-kicks.
The full-time whistle goes with Bayern taking a 1-0 lead back to the Allianz Arena, which after an extremely comfortable first hour, they were made to work very hard to preserve! Coman's opener early in the second half looked sure to be enough to beat a passive PSG, but the introduction of Kylian Mbappe sparked the hosts into life. He had two goals ruled out, one of which was by the most marginal of offsides, and by the time the second leg rolls around, a potentially fully fit Mbappe could cause havoc for a Bayern defence which will be without Benjamin Pavard for the second leg, after he was sent off for two bookings late in the game. What a climax to this last-16 tie we have in store!
90' + 5' FULL-TIME: PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN 0-1 BAYERN MUNICH.
90' + 4' Bayern win a free-kick which Kimmich stands over. There's plenty of red to aim at in the box but the captain goes for goal, drilling a low shot from distance which Donnarumma sees all the way and holds!
90' + 3' OVER!!! Neymar's crossed free-kick is deflected back to him, and the second ball finds the head of Ramos, who sends a looping aerial effort over and onto the top of the net!
90' + 2' RED CARD!!! Verratti wins the ball and plays it down the line for Messi, but he's clumsily scythed down by Pavard right on the edge of the box! It's not quite a penalty, but is certainly a yellow card, and Pavard's second of the game means he's off!
90' + 1' We're into four added minutes at the Parc des Princes, which PSG will feel is plenty to find an equaliser here!
J. Stanišić
L. Sané
90' Bayern bring on another defender, Josip Stanisic, to replace Sane as they attempt to consolidate this slender lead, which since Mbappe's introduction, has looked severely under threat.
89' Davies goes shoulder-to-shoulder with Ramos and looks to have beaten the Spaniard down the left, but shoves him to the floor in the process and concedes the free-kick.
R. Gravenberch
J. Musiala
87' Musiala is off next for Bayern, as a more defensively-minded midfielder in Ryan Gravenberch enters the fray.
Neymar
Yellow Card
86' Neymar shoves Kimmich to ground, where the Bayern midfielder collides with Verratti, and the PSG forward is shown a yellow card.
86' SAVED!!! Bayern surrender possession on the edge of their own box and Ruiz cuts the ball back for Mbappe. His shot is blocked towards Vitinha, whose volley is well saved and held by Sommer!
84' BLOCKED!!! What a goal-saving intervention!!! Mendes somehow dribbles between Gnabry and Kimmich to burst forward before crossing for Messi. His first-time finish takes a deflection off Pavard, skewing the ball over and wide with Sommer beaten! What a stop from the defender!
82' BALL IN THE NET!!!! PSG think they've equalised!!! Neymar's ball through is latched onto by Mendes, and his square ball into the middle is turned goalwards by Mbappe!!! He celebrates wildly as the goal is initially given, but VAR replays show that Mendes' leading leg was offside and that potential equaliser is ruled out!
81' OVER!!! Messi loses the ball in midfield and Musiala races forward. He tees up Muller to his right, but the substitute can only fire over the bar!
80' Good close control from Mbappe helps PSG keep the ball in the final third, and Mendes beats Goretzka to get a cross in from the byline. Neymar is the target, but De Ligt gets there first to scoop the ball clear!
78' Since the start of the 2017-18 season Mbappe has been directly involved in 57 goals in 50 Champions League appearances with 34 goals and 23 assists. He is the only player with both 20+ goals and assists each during this period.
77' SAVED!!! After Mbappe beats Upamecano to win PSG a corner, Messi's delivery is met by Marquinhos. His downward header is on target, but he can't generate enough power to beat Sommer!
T. Müller
E. Choupo-Moting
76' Ex-PSG forward Choupo-Moting comes off next for Bayern, with Thomas Muller taking his place in attack.
S. Gnabry
K. Coman
75' The player whose goal currently makes the difference is also withdrawn, with Serge Gnabry replacing Coman for Bayern.
Vitinha
Danilo Pereira
75' PSG make another change in midfield, as Vitinha replaces Danilo for the final 15 minutes.
73' BALL IN THE NET!!! Mendes' ball over the top puts Mbappe streaking into the clear, and his close-range shot is parried by Sommer! Neymar's first rebound shot is blocked, but the second is parried by the goalkeeper before being turned home by Mbappe! The substitute races away to celebrate, but he's a mile offside and is flagged accordingly! What a return that would've been, and it's PSG's first real chance of the game!
72' PSG's sole loss at home to Bayern in the Champions League came in their most recent such encounter in April 2021, and with the way this game has played out so far, you'd fancy that record to soon become two defeats in six.
P. Kimpembe
Yellow Card
70' Coman looks to set off on the break for Bayern but is felled by a sliding Kimpembe. The PSG substitute was nowhere near the ball, and is shown a yellow card as a result.
69' Messi skips through midfield before finding Ruiz to his right. The ball is moved left to Mendes, who tries to play in Neymar, but Upamecano steps across to easily dispossess the Brazilian and the Bavarians have the ball back.
68' PSG's play has barely improved in this second period, hardly having any possession to build from. A half-fit Mbappe has hardly touched the ball, with Messi and Neymar similarly anonymous so far.
66' Donnarumma has been forced into five saves already, last making as many in PSG's group stage game against Benfica in October, when he made six inside 90 minutes. He'll likely beat that total sooner rather than later, with almost 25 minutes plus injury time left in this one.
64' SAVED!!! Kimmich's corner finds Pavard, whose bullet header is tipped away brilliantly by Donnarumma! It falls to Choupo-Moting who fires into the side netting, before the offside flag is raised against him!
63' SAVED!!! Musiala carves his run into the area and pulls the ball back for Choupo-Moting, whose first-time shot is expertly tipped onto the post and behind by an acrobatic Donnarumma!
63' Bayern have PSG at sixes and sevens on the edge of the box, and Goretzka looks for Davies charging into space. Marquinhos gets in the way though, coolly intercepting the throughball before finding Messi with his clearance!
62' SAVED!!! Coman has space to cross from the right and does so, with the ball finding Choupo-Moting. It bounces before the Cameroonian unleashes an acrobatic bicycle kick, which doesn't have enough power on it to beat Donnarumma!
61' Kimmich finds himself in all sorts of space and shoots from 30 yards but sends a wild effort swirling well over and into the Paris night.
59' Coman's opener was his seventh direct goal involvement in his last 11 Champions League appearances, with three goals and four assists.
Fabián Ruiz
W. Zaïre-Emery
57' Zaire-Emery has looked impressive down the right so far, but the 16-year-old's first Champions League start comes to an end with the introduction of Fabian Ruiz.
K. Mbappé
Carlos Soler
57' Mbappe's return from injury comes earlier than expected, as he replaces Soler in this shell-shocked PSG side.
56' Sane skips beyond a challenge and looks to pull the trigger in the box, but Danilo slides in to hook the ball away and prevent the winger from shooting!
55' Bayern have now scored five goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half in the Champions League this season, with no team doing so more often.
A. Davies
Assist
53' The ball from Davies landed perfectly on Coman's right foot, and took several statuesque PSG defenders out of the picture!
K. Coman
Goal
53' GOOOOOAAAALLL!!! Bayern get the breakthrough, and it's that man again!!! Choupo-Moting tees Davies up to cross from the left, and the Canadian's cross flies over everyone's heads and falls to Coman, who side-foots the ball underneath Donnarumma on the volley to give the visitors a deserved 1-0 lead! He looked very lively on the left in the first half and his switch to the opposite side has yielded a goal in the second! Donnarumma could have done better, it should be said.
51' Mendes clips a cross into the area which Danilo attacks, but Sommer dives in to catch the ball and clatters the midfielder! It looks a fair challenge, but Danilo stays down; however, any questions of a penalty are eradicated by the PSG midfielder being offside in the first place.
50' CHANCE!!! Zaire-Emery does well to beat Davies down the right and crosses from the byline. Neymar slides in, but Upamecano gets the crucial touch and sends the ball behind for PSG's first corner of the game!
49' De Ligt heads Neymar's free-kick well clear and Bayern fly into counter-attack mode. Choupo-Moting cuts inside on the edge of the box, but he takes an extra touch before looking to shoot and Verratti dispossesses him!
48' Mendes makes an early burst forward for PSG and beats defenders aplenty on his way before being felled by Pavard. The Bayern defender, who is on a yellow card, looks grateful the referee didn't reach for his pocket there.
46' Neymar kicks off the second half for PSG, who need to improve significantly in the next 45 minutes if they're to have any chance of winning this game.
P. Kimpembe
A. Hakimi
46' PSG also make a defensive alteration, as Presnel Kimpembe replaces Hakimi at half-time.
A. Davies
João Cancelo
46' Bayern make one half-time change, with Manchester City loanee Cancelo replaced by Alphonso Davies. He'll occupy the left flank, switching Coman to the right.
The teams return for the second period, and can Bayern make their dominance count to find an early goal?
Coman is certainly a fan of facing his old club, following up from his 2020 final performance with another strong showing in that first half. He's had three shots, with one on target, as well as completing six crosses and two key passes, maintaining an 89 per cent accuracy in the final third. He's also completed five of seven duels, including three of three dribbles, and has won possession three times, once doing so in the final third. Thorn.
It's 0-0 at the break, and PSG are extremely lucky this game is still goalless. The hosts have left a void in their midfield which Bayern have exploited time and time again; however, brilliant defence, led by Ramos in particular, has restricted the number of good chances the visitors have been able to create. Forced to play counter-attack with Messi and Neymar far from speedy target men these days, PSG have offered nothing and will be delighted to still be level at the moment.
45' + 2' HALF-TIME: PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN 0-0 BAYERN MUNICH.
45' + 1' BLOCKED!!! Neymar runs over the free-kick, allowing Messi to strike it, but Bayern's red wall does its job and the shot doesn't reach Sommer!
45' A brilliant Mendes tackle sparks a PSG break, and the left-back is found on the flank by Soler. He passes centrally to play a one-two with Verratti before finding Messi, who is fouled on the edge of the box to win a free-kick that is certainly within his range!
43' SAVED!!! Best chance of the half so far!! Ramos heads away another Coman cross, but Kimmich meets the loose ball and smashes a low shot from the edge of the box, which Donnarumma does well to get down to and hold having seen it very late!
41' Mendes chips over the top to find Zaire-Emery running in behind, but Sane gets back for Bayern to win the ball and pass it back to Sommer.
40' CHANCE!!! Coman's cross to the near post is met by Goretzka making an intelligent run into the box, but Ramos is back there in cover once again to nod the ball behind for a corner!
38' Paris have only failed to score in one of their last 32 Champions League home games, averaging 2.6 goals per game, though the exception in this run was in a 1-0 defeat at Bayern in the 2020-21 quarter-finals.
36' Messi makes a surge from the centre circle and beats Goretzka and Upamecano easily on his way, but Pavard races in to hack the ball away before the forward can progress further!
34' WIDE!!! Coman cuts inside from the left and fires an early, low shot from the edge of the area. He looks to beat Donnarumma at his near post but drills the ball well wide.
33' It's been almost all Bayern so far, to the extent that it's the first time since April 2015 (v Barcelona) that PSG have failed to register a single attempt on goal in the opening 30 minutes of a Champions League game!
31' PSG can't keep the ball again and Musiala is played into the box, but his early shot is deflected wide by Verratti for yet another Bayern corner!
30' WIDE!!! Coman's curling cross finds Choupo-Moting at the back post, but his header ricochets back off the head of Mendes and flies just wide of the post!
29' BLOCKED!!! After Hakimi tackles Musiala on the edge of the box with a challenge more akin to a shoulder charge in rugby, the visitors have a dangerous-looking free-kick. Kimmich strikes it, and his shot deflects off the wall to go behind for a corner!
27' CHANCE!!! A brilliant first-touch throughball from Pavard almost puts Musiala into shooting space, but Ramos keeps pace with the Bayern youngster and forces the ball behind for a corner!
B. Pavard
Yellow Card
26' Neymar comes central to take a pass, stepping away from Pavard in the process, but he's caught late by the Bayern defender, who goes into the book.
25' Kimmich clips an aerial pass towards Coman from the edge of the box, but the Frenchman's meek volley takes a deflection before being collected in Donnarumma's gloves.
24' PSG look relatively happy for Bayern to have the ball, with their strategy being to hit the Bavarians on the break at any given opportunity. However, that's one risky game plan against a team possessing the quality Bayern have, and the visitors look increasingly likely to be the side to score first here.
23' Bayern win a free-kick from distance which Kimmich hammers into the box, but Donnarumma flies above the rest to punch the ball clear!
22' Since the start of the 2019-20 season, Bayern have the highest win percentage (86.5 per cent) and the most total victories (32) of any Champions League team. And, despite playing 37 matches in the competition during this period, they've only tasted defeat twice - no team have lost fewer.
20' PSG make another fast break as Neymar bursts down the left edge. Soler sprints through the middle to provide support, but Neymar is muscled off the ball by Pavard and has stayed down as a result!
18' Coman cuts down the byline and cuts the ball back into the six-yard box, but a good header by Ramos gets the ball away from danger.
17' Bayern have won all six of their Champions League games so far this season, scoring 18 goals and only conceding twice. They've only won their first seven straight once in this competition, doing so in 2019-20 as they won every single game they played, the last of which was against PSG in the final.
15' Cancelo whips a teasing cross right into the danger area, but the ball flashes across the face of goal without being touched by anyone in a red shirt!
14' PSG break at speed and Messi has the ball in space on the right. Neymar and Ramos charge into the box, and Messi finds the former, but the return ball to the Argentine is cut out and cleared by Pavard.
13' Among teams who have faced Bayern Munich at least 10 times in the Champions League, Paris are the team with the highest win percentage, 55, against them.
11' Messi darts down the right, gliding straight past Coman and Goretzka, but his wide pass can't be kept in by Zaire-Emery and Bayern win possession back.
9' Coman's hanging cross to the back post is headed clear by Mendes, but Pavard arrives on the edge of the box to smash a half-volley goalwards. He can't replicate his 2018 World Cup wonderstrike though, and the ball bounces wide!
8' PSG make good use of some rare possession as Zaire-Emery looks for Neymar. The Brazilian chases the loose ball, but Cancelo gets back in cover to tidy up the loose ball.
6' PSG and Bayern have faced each other on 11 previous occasions, all coming in the Champions League. The teams are separated by just one victory with six for the hosts and five for Bayern, with both scoring the same number of goals (15).
4' Bayern appear to have tweaked their starting formation to a 3-2-4-1, with Pavard and Sane both drifting into more central positions, and Cancelo switching to right-wing-back with Coman doing the same on the left.
2' A heavy touch from Upamecano almost gives Neymar a chance to nip into open space, but the Bayern defender passes back to Sommer and alleviates the danger.
1' Following a moment of reflection to pay tribute to the victims of the recent tragedies in Turkey and Syria, Choupo-Moting gets this game under way in Paris.
1' WIDE!!! Choupo-Moting beats Marquinhos before trying his luck from distance, and flashes a shot wide of the far post from 20 yards out!
The teams exit the tunnel and come out onto the pitch, with kick-off just moments away at the Parc des Princes!
The 2020 European champions start with Kingsley Coman on the left wing, the player who scored the winner in that behind-closed-doors final nearly three years ago. The Frenchman, a PSG academy product, has scored three goals in his last two games for Bayern, and his most recent in a 3-0 win over Bochum extended the Bavarians’ unbeaten Bundesliga run to 13 games.
PSG’s last game saw them lose 3-1 away at Monaco, their third league defeat in seven since returning from the World Cup. A bright spot though was young forward Warren Zaire-Emery scoring his second senior goal, and the 16-year-old starts alongside Neymar and Lionel Messi in the front three. Kylian Mbappe also returns from injury, and will start on the bench.
BAYERN MUNICH SUBS: Sven Ulreich, Johannes Schenk, Serge Gnabry, Alphonso Davies, Bouna Sarr, Daley Blind, Thomas Muller, Ryan Gravenberch, Mathys Tel, Josip Stanisic, Arijon Ibrahimovic.
BAYERN MUNICH (4-2-3-1): Yann Sommer; Benjamin Pavard, Dayot Upamecano, Matthijs de Ligt, Joao Cancelo; Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka; Leroy Sane, Jamal Musiala, Kingsley Coman; Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.
PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN SUBS: Sergio Rico, Alexandre Letellier, Presnel Kimpembe, Kylian Mbappe, Fabian Ruiz, Juan Bernat, Vitinha, Timothee Pembele, El Chadaille Bitshiabu, Ismael Gharbi, Hugo Ekitike.
PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN (4-4-2): Gianluigi Donnarumma; Achraf Hakimi, Marquinhos, Sergio Ramos, Nuno Mendes; Warren Zaire-Emery, Danilo Pereira, Marco Verratti, Carlos Soler; Lionel Messi, Neymar.
Bayern’s group campaign saw them go head-to-head with both Inter and Barcelona, but Julian Nagelsmann’s side won all six of their games to finish with maximum points and a 100 per cent record. These two sides met in the 2020 final, which Bayern won 1-0, and a similar result for the visitors would set them in good stead to advance to the last eight.
PSG were pipped to top spot in Group H by Benfica by means of away goals scored, the fourth possible tiebreaker having both finished on 14 points, and each scoring 16 goals to seven conceded. This gives them a tie against Bayern, who finished well clear of the chasing pack in Group C.
Hello, and welcome to live coverage of this UEFA Champions League fixture, as Paris Saint-Germain host Bayern Munich in the first leg of their last-16 clash.
