That's that for Senegal, who head home from Qatar following a bruising defeat to an England side playing like a well-oiled machine. France are arguably the only team who have looked to be on England's level so far, making their quarter-final clash in a few days' time all the more enticing for any fan of football.

Having not scored so far this tournament, there was pressure on Harry Kane going into this game, but the England captain welcomed that pressure with open arms, smashing in his goal, and England's second, with the last kick of the first half. The striker recorded three shots, with two on target, as well as three touches in the box and 17 passes in the final third. He also managed two successful dribbles, contested 14 duels, with six of these coming in the air, as well as winning two free-kicks. Leader.

The full-time whistle goes, sealing England's passage to the quarter-finals of the World Cup! The Three Lions began the second half as they finished the first, scoring their third goal through Saka within 12 minutes of the restart. From then on, it was a case of keeping Senegal at arm's length, and England certainly did that, nearly adding to their lead on several occasions and restricting their opponents to the occasional pop-shot as they closed out a 3-0 victory, to set up a mouth-watering clash with France in the last eight.

90' + 3' Rice concedes a foul on the edge of his own box, but Dieng's free-kick is fired straight into the England wall!

90' + 1' WIDE!!! Grealish cuts inside before feeding Shaw to his left. He dinks the ball over the top, and Rashford slides in to hit the ball, but can only find the side netting!

89' Sabaly's cross from the right is deflected clear to the edge of the box, but Gueye comes onto it. He smashes a first-time shot, but sends it high and wide of the goal as the clock ticks down on Senegal's time in Qatar.

87' Senegal win their first corner of the match and Sabaly whips a cross into the area, but Pickford is vocal as ever, and comes out to claim the ball with ease.

86' Grealish collects a loose ball in midfield and scoops it up for Kane, who attempts to flick the ball to himself in the box but is unable to do so!

84' Jakobs' cross from the left is a good one, and finds the head of Diedhiou. He drifts between Dier and Maguire to get there, but sends his headed effort wide of the mark!

80' CHANCE!!!! A cross-field pass is thundered onto by Rashford, who bursts down the right before crossing early for Kane. The captain races into the middle and stretches to connect with the ball, but isn't able to get there and the ball rolls away!

79' African nations have lost eight of their nine World Cup knockout round games against European sides, with the exception being Senegal's 2-1 win over Sweden in the round of 16 in 2002. However, in all competitions, England have never lost against an African side in their history.

61' Bellingham wildly slides in on Sabaly, catching the Senegal right-back late. He concedes the free-kick, but the referee keeps his cards in his pocket for now and the game soon re-starts.

He dribbles to the byline and fires the ball across the face of goal, where Saka arrives at the front post to lift it over Mendy and into the back of the net!! That's three in the tournament for Saka, and just as many for England in this game as they make it 3-0!

56' SAVED!!! Kane tries his luck from a good 30 yards out, and although Edouard Mendy gets down to the ball, he very nearly spills it through his legs before regathering!

54' Rice wins the ball superbly and it falls to Kane in midfield. He drives forward before finding Saka, who is forced wide and snatches at a shot which flies behind for a goal kick.

52' Some fantastic one-touch play in and around the box from England almost gives Bellingham shooting space, but he's crowded out by a packed Senegal defence and the Three Lions will have to try again.

50' Senegal advance down the right and Sabaly crosses into the area. He ball just evades Dieng as Shaw clears, but Pape Sarr strikes a first-time effort from distance which curls just wide of Pickford's left-hand post!

49' England have scored 5 first-half goals in 4 games, more than any other team in the 2022 World Cup, and all five of these have come after the half-hour mark has passed.

48' Saka does brilliantly to bring down a cross-field pass, and finds Henderson in support. He floats a cross back from the right, but no-one in a white shirt can get there and the ball is cleared.

The teams return for the second half, and can England add more goals in Al Khor to prevent any chance of a Senegalese fightback?

Bellingham has maintained a 96 per cent passing accuracy so far, and has completed every single one in the final third. He set up Henderson's opener with one of them, and England's teenage sensation has also won eight of 11 duels, two of three coming in the air. He's won the ball four times, twice of which came in the final third, and another which sent England on their way to doubling the lead via Kane's venomous finish. Generational.

That's the first half done and dusted, and what a way for England to enter the break! The Three Lions had looked lackadaisical for much of the half, almost gifting Senegal the lead with two mistakes which lead to chances, but came to life inside the final 10 minutes. Bellingham was instrumental in both goals, making the darting run down the left to set up Henderson's opener, before slaloming through midfield on the break to start the move which Kane finished off. Those two pieces of brilliance see England lead 2-0, and have them in total control here.

He strides through the middle before feeding Foden, who immediately passes to the unmarked Kane. The England captain was yet to score at this tournament, but he lashes the ball beyond a helpless Mendy to rattle the back of the net and put England 2-0 up right on half-time!

45' + 1' We're into two minutes of added time to close out this first half.

45' Rice makes a surging run down the right-hand side, beating three defenders on his way. He drills a low cross into the danger area, but it's put behind by Koulibaly for another England corner.

43' SAVED!!! Shaw drives forward to intercept a pass and race into the box. He's forced wide upon receiving Bellingham's pass, but his cross back to the middle is parried behind by Edouard Mendy!

41' OVER!!! Saka stands up his marker down the right before squaring the ball inside. Kane arrives on the edge of the box to hit it, but drags his effort high and wide of the target!

He draws several defenders before he cuts the ball back, and Henderson is on hand to slot it below Edouard Mendy and into the back of the net!!! They've hardly threatened so far, but just like that, England lead this knockout tie by a score of 1-0!

39' Aged 32 years and 170 days, Jordan Henderson is England's second-oldest ever World Cup scorer, after 36-year-old Tom Finney against the USSR in 1958.

38' Diatta and Sabaly link up down the right and Diatta races forward for the return pass, but it's overhit and Maguire ushers the ball out for a goal kick.

36' Sarr again finds space down the left flank and takes on Walker. He gets past the England right-back, but is soon shoved to the floor, winning Senegal a free-kick.

35' England give the ball away cheaply again and Sarr comes away down the left. He links up Jakobs, who beats Walker before crossing, but it's headed clear by Maguire for the Three Lions.

33' Kane swivels and drives towards the box, playing a one-two with Henderson. He receives the return pass and curls a cross towards Saka, but the winger can't bring it down before he's dispossessed!

31' SAVED!!! A poor pass back from Saka is latched onto by Sarr. He cuts inside across the edge of the box before finding Dia, whose shot from the left is parried by the outstretched glove of Pickford! Another scare for England, and they've been their own worst enemies at times so far!

29' Bellingham is the second teenager to start in a World Cup knockout stage game for England, after Michael Owen made his name known to the world against Argentina in 1998.

27' The frenetic pace of the opening 10 minutes has given way to a slower, more calm passage of play. England are keeping the ball well, and winning it back quickly whenever they lose it, but need to take more risks if they're to break down this well-organised Senegalese defence.

25' Each of Senegal's last 10 goals at the World Cup have been scored by different players (including own goals). Their five different scorers at this tournament is the most they've had in a single edition.

23' OVER!!!! A huge let off for England!!! Maguire's pass out the back is intercepted and Senegal flood forward. Diatta's cross is mis-hit by Dia, and the ball bounces in front of the England goal, but Sarr arrives and blasts it over the top! It looked easier to score that one!

21' England win the game's first corner, which is swung in by Foden from the right. Stones rises highest and gets his head to the ball, but can only put his effort over the crossbar.

19' England's early dominance saw them maintain 69.5 per cent possession over the opening 15 minutes of the game, but so far, they're yet to create anything of note to test Edouard Mendy in the Senegal goal.

17' Kane is dispossessed in the final third and Senegal break at pace. Diatta gets beyond Rice before cutting inside, and Maguire and Stones have to react quickly to force a goal kick via a ricochet off Ndiaye!

15' England are looking to reach the quarter-final in consecutive editions of the World Cup for the first time since 2002 and 2006. The Three Lions have been eliminated from just two of their seven round-of-16 ties at the tournament: against Germany in 2010 and via penalty shoot-out against Argentina in 1998.

13' England build pressure in the final third and Maguire hits a Senegal clearance straight back to Kane. He whips a cross into the area, but Saka is a fraction behind it and the chance goes astray!

11' Senegal have reached the knockout stages of the World Cup for the second time, previously doing so in their first appearance in 2002 (quarter-final). Courtesy of beating Qatar and Ecuador in the group stages, Senegal have won consecutive World Cup matches for the first time.

9' Bellingham shows good anticipation to beat Koulibaly to the ball and he recovers from a stumble to steam down the left. He hits a good cross into the middle, which Mendy misses, but it goes over the head of Saka!

8' Walker's free-kick is brought down by Stones in the box, who drills it across the face from the left, but Maguire can't get there and it's cleared by Senegal.

7' Intense Bellingham pressing forces a loose pass from Koulibaly, and Foden intercepts to drive forward for England. He finds Bellingham, but Koulibaly brings him down to concede a free-kick.

6' England have never lost against African opposition in seven previous World Cup matches; their only previous such game in the knockout stages came against Cameroon in the 1990 quarter-final, winning 3-2 after extra-time, with their goals coming from David Platt and two Gary Lineker penalties.

4' CHANCE!!! A gap opens up in England's midfield and a throughball through it finds Dia. He bursts between Stones and Maguire as he looks to create shooting space, but a crucial touch from Maguire sends the ball back to Pickford!

2' This is the first international meeting between England and Senegal. It is the 13th time that England’s first match against a nation has come in the World Cup; the Three Lions lost just one of the previous 12 such instances, a famous 1-0 defeat to the USA in 1950.

Despite missing injured talisman Sadio Mane, Senegal still scored five goals in their three group games, with several of their forward line stepping up in the process. Boulaye Dia starts up front having scored their first of the tournament against Qatar, while to his left, Ismaila Sarr will be looking to add to the penalty he scored in Senegal’s 2-1 win over Ecuador.

England make a single change, which sees Bukayo Saka come in for Marcus Rashford. Saka scored twice in England’s opening 6-2 win over Iran, while Rashford netted twice to seal a 3-0 win over Wales in their final group game. Rashford also came off the bench to score against Iran, and Southgate will be hoping for a similar impact in this game. Raheem Sterling is absent from the matchday squad due to a family issue, but is expected to be back should England progress to the next round.

Senegal triumphed over Ecuador in their final group match to qualify at the South Americans' expense behind the Netherlands, and they’ll be hoping to upset the pre-game favourites here to give the quarter-finals two representatives from Group A.

England finished the group stages as statistically the best team in the tournament, winning a joint-most seven points as well as having +7 in the goal difference department. The winner of this game knows they’ll face France in the last eight, and Gareth Southgate’s side will need to be at their best in order to make it there.
