High-flying Los Blancos picked up a victory during their first derby of the season against Rojiblancos

In-form Real Madrid eased past Atletico Madrid with a 2-0 win during a La Liga encounter on Sunday at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Goals coming from Marco Asensio and Karim Benzema were enough for Real Madrid to go eight points clear of Sevilla in second and Los Blancos are now on an eight-game unbeaten streak in the league.

  • Karim Benzema of Real Madrid.

    Karim Benzema - 7.41

Benzema seemed to be a doubt going into this game after picking an injury last week and missing out on the midweek action. He started the game and scored an incredible volley for Los Blancos' first goal of the game.

That was his 13th goal of the season and now leads the top goal scorer standings ahead of Vinicius who sits in second with 10 goals. Unfortunately, he did not come out for the second half as he was substituted and Luka Jovic took his place.

  • Luka Modric of Real Madrid.

    Luka Modric - 7.82

If you ever needed proof for the phrase “Age is just a number” then Modric is it. The veteran Croatian midfielder had his best performance so far this season.

The build-up to the first goal was started by him after he intercepted Koke’s pass. On the ball he was unplayable, carrying the ball forward with confidence and making passes that kept the tempo of the match to Real Madrid’s pace.

  • Casemiro Vinicius

    Carlos Casemiro - 7.82

Atletico have been known to be a physical side especially in midfield and Casemiro was up to the challenge. He made three interceptions on the night and made big tackles to break down play.

He has covered the Real Madrid backline very well and has been an important asset in the team’s current run of form.

  • Vinicius Jr of Real Madrid.

    Vinicius Jr - 8.01

The Brazilian winger picked up two assists last night, setting up Benzema and Asensio. Vinicius Jr has been added to his overall game as well with a big defensive effort making a team-high of 4 tackles.

His pace and skill have proved to be a thorn in the side of every team he has faced. He definitely put on a show at the Santiago Bernabeu and the fans gave him a standing ovation to show their appreciation of what he had last night.

  • Thibaut Courtois of Real Madrid.

    Thibaut Courtois - 8.14

Another spectacular performance for Courtois, he single-handedly kept his team in it with some big saves.

The Belgian goalkeeper has now four clean sheets in five games and is proving to be a key man in the squad.

His ability to be able to play with the ball at his feet has been great for Los Blancos as they look to build up quick counter-attacks from the back.
