Tusker beat Gor Mahia to lift FKF Super Cup in a dramatic Thika showdown

After the match ended in a draw at full-time, the Brewers eventually emerged winners as they saw off K'Ogalo, who had been reduced to 10 men

Tusker lifted the Football Kenya Federation Super Cup trophy after beating Gor Mahia 8-7 on post-match penalties after a dramatic encounter on Wednesday at Thika Stadium.
After the game ended in a 1-1 draw at full-time, the winner had to be decided from the spot and the Premier League champions ended up winning their first trophy in the 2021/22 season.

Daniel Sakari, Boniface Muchiri, Ibrahim Joshua, Clyde Senaji, Brian Bwire, Jimmy Mbugua, Kalos Kirenge, and Christopher Oruchum scored for the Brewers, while Humphrey Mieno and Kelvin Monyi saw their penalties saved by Gad Mathews.
K'Ogalo scored their respective penalties through Sydney Ochieng, Dennis Ng'ang'a, Frank Odhiambo, Sando Yangayay, Benson Omala, Mathews and Philemon Otieno while Alpha Onyango, Fred Nkata, and Ernest Wendo were unable to beat Tusker's Bwire.
The league champions saw one of their earliest chances go to waste when Muchiri picked up the ball on the left wing and floated a cross that Deogratius Ojok rose high to meet, but his header was not strong enough to trouble Gor Mahia's goalkeeper, Mathews, in the eighth minute.
Jules Ulimwengu was unfortunate not to score the opener for K'Ogalo in the 16th minute when he was set through on goal by Peter Lwasa, but he - while clear on goal - ended up shooting a feeble ball that Tusker's Bwire had no problem collecting.
New signing Joshua - with two goals for the Brewers in the Caf Champions League - had to come on in the 27th minute when Ojok was injured.
The league champions failed to break the deadlock with two quick chances in the 33rd minute when Muchiri's close-range free-kick was pushed away by Gor Mahia's custodian for a corner.

Senaji was unable to find the target with his header from the resultant corner kick as he sent the ball slightly above the crossbar.
Another Gor Mahia chance came in the 44th minute, but their new signing, Lwasa, shot wide at the edge of the penalty box while he was almost unmarked.
K'Ogalo scored the first goal of the encounter when Onyango beat Bwire from the spot after Omala had been brought down by the Tusker goalkeeper in the box in the 54th minute.
Two minutes later, Tusker equalised - from the spot too - when Muchiri was fouled in the penalty box, with Joshua successfully converting to beat Mathews.
In the 62nd minute, Gor Mahia were reduced to 10 men when Harun Shakava - who had been booked in the first half - received a second yellow card.
The Brewers were unable to take advantage of their numerical advantage as Gor Mahia held tight to ensure the game ended in a 1-1 draw at full-time as the winner was determined from the spot.
