Commentary

That's all from us, we hope you enjoyed that belter of a game. Until next time, goodbye!
That heavy defeat keeps Rangers firmly at the bottom of Group A, and with no chance of reaching the knockouts from this stage, they are out. Liverpool meanwhile, remain firmly in the hunt for the last 16, but are still behind Napoli by three points. Despite scoring seven at Ibrox, Jurgen Klopp's side would have needed to find another seven if they were to draw level with Napoli's massive goal difference of +13.
Firmino had been far and away Liverpool's best player, scoring two and assisting one of their first three goals. However, the introduction of Salah saw the Egyptian produce a superhuman cameo if ever there was one. Finding the target with all four of his shots, he scored three of them and was involved in Elliott's final goal too. He had just six touches in the box and a sole final third entry, but popped up when it counted to break yet another scoring record for the Reds.
After a cagey first-half, Liverpool absolutely smash through Rangers in the second, scoring six goals and thumping the hosts 7-1. Mo Salah came on with just 22 minutes left, but smashed home three goals within six of these to score the fastest-ever Champions League hat-trick. Rangers offered nothing, but with Salah back in the goals and a +6 in the goal difference column, Jurgen Klopp will be extremely happy with his side's performance as they look to win back the European title they last won in 2019.
90' + 2' FULL-TIME: RANGERS 1-7 LIVERPOOL.
90' + 1' We're into just a minute of added time, which Rangers will be very thankful for. They've been praying for that whistle ever since Salah entered the pitch!
J. Gomez
Yellow Card
90' Gomez clips the calves of Morelos as the Rangers substitute beats him to the ball, and despite Morelos' protests, it's just a yellow card for the Liverpool defender.
88' With just six minutes and 12 seconds between his first and third goals, Salah has scored the fastest ever Champions League hat-trick in history.
H. Elliott
Goal
87' IT'S GIVEN!!!! The green light is given for Elliott, with the offside Jota having no effect on the play, and thus the youngster's goal makes it a whopping 7-1 to the visitors!
87' On replays, it appears to be a square ball from Salah to Jota, meaning that this goal could well stand!
87' BALL IN THE NET!!!! Salah ghosts past Davis in the box before crossing for Jota, but McGregor dives in to scoop it away. It bounces up to Elliott, who volleys home, but the flag is up against him!
85' Despite such a positive first half, Rangers have withered at a dreadful rate in the second. No shots on target, and nowhere near Liverpool either, whose quality has shone through with very little resistance from the home side.
83' His first goal put him level with Drogba and Aguero as the top-scoring players from Premier League clubs in the Champions League, but in true Mo Salah style, the Liverpool forward has put himself two clear of his company in the blink of an eye!
Diogo Jota
Assist
81' What a touch and ball from Jota, and the introduction of himself and Salah has turned this game into a rout!
Mohamed Salah
Goal
81' GOOOOOAAAALLLL!!!! Hat-trick!!!! Jota brings down a high ball brilliantly, and finds Salah to the right. He surges into the box and cuts inside before shooting, curling the ball past an unmoved McGregor, off the far post and into the back of the net!!! A six-minute hat-trick for Salah, and a six-goal drubbing by Liverpool!
Diogo Jota
Assist
80' Jota's flick gave Salah space to shoot, and the Egyptian did all the rest to put further daylight between the sides.
Mohamed Salah
Goal
80' GOOOOOAAALLLL!!!! Oh, what a finish!!! Jota's flick from Milner's throw puts Salah into space, and despite being crowded out by three Gers defenders, Salah takes as many touches as he needs before slotting the ball to McGregor's left and into the net! What a way to go 5-1 up!
J. Milner
I. Konaté
79' Konate's defensive duties have lessened with each goal Liverpool have scored, and he comes off now for James Milner to see out the game.
78' There's plenty of fresh legs on for Rangers, but even they're nowhere near their counterparts in Red, who are firmly in control. Liverpool's second half has been packed full of positives, and they will result in Rangers heading out of the competition.
S. Wright
R. Kent
76' Former Liverpool academy product Kent has faded in the second half following a bright start to the first, and Scott Wright will replace him down the left flank.
R. Matondo
F. Sakala
76' Sakala also comes off, and is replaced out wide by Rabbi Matondo.
A. Morelos
A. Čolak
76' Rangers make a triple-change late on, with Colak withdraw for Alfredo Morelos up front.
Diogo Jota
Assist
75' Jota gets the assist, but Elliott also played a big part in that, and the teenager has been impressive throughout this game for Jurgen Klopp's side.
Mohamed Salah
Goal
75' GOOOOOAAAALLLL!!!! Salah gets in on the action!!!! Elliott's ball for Jota ricochets off the Liverpool substitute into Salah's path, who gets beyond Barisic and fires across McGregor from a tight angle and into the opposite corner!!! 4-1 to Liverpool now, and it's a fantastic finish from the Egyptian!
75' SAVED!!! After several attempted balls into the Rangers box are repelled, it falls to Elliott on the right edge, who looks to pick his spot in the top corner but can only curl his effort just over the bar!
Diogo Jota
Roberto Firmino
73' Having played a crucial part in all three of Liverpool's goals, Firmino comes off, and is replaced by Diogo Jota for the last minutes of this match.
71' CHANCE!!! From that save, McGregor throws the ball forward to Sakala, who heads beyond Van Dijk and surges onto it! Colak is waiting in the middle, but Sakala's final ball is a poor one and Konate slides in to cut it out!
71' SAVED!!! Straight into the action, Thiago chips a pass straight through the Rangers defence for Salah, who takes a touch before shooting on the half-volley, but the boot of an oncoming McGregor stops the ball!
69' Salah has scored 35 UFA Champions League goals for Liverpool – only Didier Drogba (36 for Chelsea) and Sergio Agüero (36 for Manchester City) have scored more for a Premier League side in the competition.
Mohamed Salah
D. Núñez
68' Liverpool's latest scorer Nunez comes off for their most prolific scorer, as Mohamed Salah finally enters the fray.
A. Robertson
K. Tsimikas
67' Tsimikas has provided significant creativity from left-back, but he comes off now for Scotsman Andy Robertson to make his return from an injury.
Thiago Alcântara
J. Henderson
67' Two goals clear, Liverpool ring the changes, and Jurgen Klopp brings off his captain Henderson for Thiago Alcantara in midfield.
Roberto Firmino
Assist
66' A fantastic flick from Firmino to set up that strike from Nunez, and the Brazilian adds an assist to the two goals he's already got in this game.
D. Núñez
Goal
66' GOOOOAAALLLL!!! That could seal it!!! Fabinho fends off the attention of Davis before finding Carvalho, who finds Firmino on the edge of the box. He unselfishly puts Nunez into shooting space, and he places a low shot beyond McGregor's reach and into the bottom corner! 3-1 to the Reds, and no way back for Rangers now.
64' Liverpool aren't exactly cruising with a mere one-goal lead, but that finish by Firmino has taken the sting out of both Rangers' press and the Ibrox atmosphere. The Reds have their lead and know they are the better team, and it remains to be seen whether the hosts have anything left to throw at them.
62' Firmino has scored his sixth brace in the Champions League. No player has ever scored at least two goals in more different matches in the competition for Liverpool (Mo Salah also 6).
S. Davis
R. Jack
60' Jack couldn't recover from that knock and does come off, replaced by Steven Davis in midfield.
60' SAVED!!! Elliott skilfully cuts inside two defenders before shooting from just inside the box, but it's a weak effort that McGregor can easily hold!
59' Liverpool come forward in numbers as Elliott feeds Carvalho, but his cross from the byline is headed away from a crowded box by Davies!
57' Jack's picked up a knock and is on his haunches in the centre circle, and could well become the second Rangers player forced off by injury.
J. Gomez
Assist
55' What a ball from Gomez, given all the time and space in the world by Elliott, and as quick as a flash, Liverpool lead at Ibrox!
Roberto Firmino
Goal
55' GOOOOAAAALLLL!!!! The visitors hit the front!!! A good flick from Elliott gives Gomez acres of space to run into, and he crosses early to the back post, exactly where Firmino wants it, and he slots the ball beneath McGregor and into the net to put Liverpool into a 2-1 lead!
54' Firmino attempts to play in Nunez, but Davies gets across him and cuts out the ball before he can pull the trigger.
52' Good play down the left from Carvalho and Nunez has the latter surging into the box, but his cut-back for Firmino is blocked behind for a corner by Lundstram!
50' Tavernier's cross from the right is nodded down by Kent, and Jack almost latches onto the loose ball before Tsimikas clears it!
50' Of the 45 teams to have played at least 50 games in the Champions League, only Anderlecht (16.7 per cent) have a lower win rate than Rangers’ 18.5 per cent – with just 12 wins from 65 games.
48' Just moments after having a shot blocked in the box, Elliott is hauled down on the edge of it by Lundstram, and wins a free-kick in a good shooting position for Liverpool.
47' Carvalho does brilliantly to weave between three defenders down the left. Firmino then finds Elliott, who puts Gomez into space down the right, but he's dispossessed as he cuts inside to shoot!
46' Rangers kick off, and the second half is underway here!
The teams are back out for the second half, and will either side be able to find a winner at Ibrox?
Konate has stood tall at the back to deny Rangers adding to their early opener from Arfield. In just 45 minutes, he's managed eight duels, winning four of five that came in the air. He's been crucial on the ground too, putting in a tackle, two blocks and three clearances, giving Liverpool a defensive platform to build from in the second half.
The first-half ends, and what a 45 minutes of football it's been! In a game fitting of the atmosphere, Rangers went in front early at Ibrox thanks to Arfield's well-taken strike. Liverpool didn't lie down for long though, and Firmino popped up at the near post to head in a corner seven minutes later. Since then, there's been half-chances at both ends, with either side firmly believing that they can claim the three points!
45' + 3' HALF-TIME: RANGERS 1-1 LIVERPOOL.
45' + 2' Liverpool break and Nunez has it on the left. He crosses into the box for Elliott to chase, but the young midfielder can't quite get to the ball and it goes behind for a goal kick.
45' + 2' Liverpool work the ball well on their way forward, and after it comes out to Tsimikas on the left, he puts a teasing cross into the box, but McGregor's out to catch the ball before anyone else can latch onto it!
45' + 1' We're into an additional three minutes of added time to close out this first half.
L. King
C. Goldson
45' Goldson limps off to rapturous applause from the home crowd, and Rangers academy product Leon King replaces him in the heart of the hosts' defence.
44' Goldson's picked up a knock and is still down on the ground, and it looks like Rangers' even-present central defender will have to come off.
42' BLOCKED!!! Sakala burns past Tsimikas down the right, and cuts the ball back for Arfield, but his goalbound effort is blocked by a brilliant effort from Konate!
41' Goldson's long ball finds Kent on the left, who he cuts inside Gomez before shooting and the ball bounces off Konate to go behind!
40' Elliott loses out to Lundstram, who releases Colak into acres of space. Rangers have a two-on-one with Kent racing forward to his left, but Colak's pass for his teammate is wayward and goes out for a Liverpool throw!
38' Liverpool were beaten 4-1 by Napoli in their previous Champions League away game; the last time they lost consecutive away matches in the competition was in September 2019, against Barcelona and Napoli.
37' Following a foul by Tsimikas on Sakala, the free-kick is whipped into the Liverpool box, but Colak is flagged for offside and Liverpool easily deal with the threat.
36' Liverpool have only failed to score in one of their last 21 Champions League group stage games, netting in each of their last 12, including this one, since a 2-0 loss to Atalanta in November 2020.
34' From the corner, it's headed out to Tavernier, who clips a beauty of a pass wide to Lundstram. He gets around Gomez and crosses into the six-yard box, but there's no blue shirts there to meet the ball and the Reds clear!
33' Jack crosses from deep, seemingly to no-one, but Kent is steaming towards the ball on the edge of the box before Gomez hooks to behind for a corner!
32' Rangers are winless in their last five European meetings with English sides, losing 2-0 in their first ever meeting with Liverpool last week.
30' After Tsimikas' cross towards Nunez is headed away by Davies, the Greece left-back attempts to pick out Fabinho. He chips it up to the byline, but Fabinho's cut-back into the box goes behind for a Rangers goal kick.
28' Four of Liverpool’s six Champions League goals this season have now come from set-piece situations, including all three of their strikes in games against Rangers.
26' Firmino's pass to play in Nunez is cut out by Goldson, but Nunez is caught by his studs and stays down, despite there being no chance of a penalty!
K. Tsimikas
Assist
24' A great delivery from Tsimikas, who caught the Rangers defence out from the corner, and gave Firmino a golden chance to head home!
Roberto Firmino
Goal
24' GOOOAAALLL!!! An almost instant equaliser!!! Tsimikas' corner is swung into the near post, and Firmino holds of his marker to head the ball beyond McGregor and into the net at his near post!!! 1-1, and despite Rangers' best efforts, they lose their lead in just seven minutes!
23' BLOCKED!!! After a brilliant tackle by Davies to dispossess Nunez, Carvalho recovers the ball and shoots again from the edge of the box, but it takes a deflection and McGregor can't prevent the corner!
23' WIDE!!! A good touch from Fabinho gives Carvalho space on the edge of the box, but his shot from 20 yards swerves inches wide of the target!
21' CHANCE!!!! Under pressure from Kent, Gomez passes back to Alisson, but pressure from Colak leaves the keeper in no-man's land and Konate has to step in to clear the ball!
21' Tavernier attempts to find Arfield in the box again with a drilled central pass, but it's too hard a pass for the goalscorer to control and Liverpool get the ball back!
19' Rangers have now scored eight goals in their last 17 Champions League games, albeit never more than once in a game in that run. They had failed to score in each of their three games this season, but have never gone four without a goal in the competition.
R. Jack
Assist
17' Colak's header to keep possession was good, but Jack's pass for Arfield was even better, giving the Canada international plenty of time to pick his spot, and he certainly picked it!
S. Arfield
Goal
17' GGOOOOOOOAAAAALLLLL!!!!! What a finish!!!! Rangers burst forward and Jack finds Arfield on the edge of the box, who takes a touch before firing the ball beyond Alisson and into the bottom corner!!! That was some goal to put Rangers 1-0 up, and Ibrox is absolutely bouncing!
16' Barisic whips a powerful cross into the box which is headed back to Jack, but his flicked pass into the six-yard box is easily caught by Alisson.
15' Only Mohamed Salah (10) has had more shots for Liverpool than Nunez's nine in the Champions League so far this season, though the Uruguayan is yet to get off the mark for the Reds in the competition.
13' CHANCE!!! Elliott glides through midfield before chipping over the top to Nunez. He has shooting space in the box, but attempts to square for Carvalho, but Goldson hacks the ball clear as the offside flag goes up in Rangers' favour!
13' Rangers have lost six of their last eight home games in the Champions League, including a 3-0 defeat to Napoli this season. Furthermore, the Gers have only scored four goals in their last nine home games in the competition, and never more than once in a game during this period.
11' Nunez and Goldson tussle for a bouncing ball and the Liverpool forward catches the Rangers defender, conceding a free-kick on halfway.
9' Napoli's 4-2 win over Ajax in the corresponding fixture gives them a six-point gap over Liverpool at the top of Group A, putting all the more pressure on the Reds to get a positive result in this game!
7' Liverpool have won three of their seven away games against Scottish sides in all competitions However, they’ve never won consecutive such games, last beating Hearts 1-0 in Edinburgh in August 2012.
5' Kent cuts inside Gomez and Elliott down the left and looks to shoot from the edge of the box. He does, and it's a good curling effort that just flies past the outside of the far post!
4' CHANCE! Lundstram's cross-field pass finds Sakala on the right, and he cuts inside Tsimikas before shooting. However, it's a tame effort on his left foot, and the ball rolls into Alisson's gloves!
3' Konate slides through Jack and sends the Gers midfielder flying, and the hosts win an early free-kick.
1' Elliott gets the game underway, as he kicks off for Liverpool here in Glasgow!
The teams head out of the tunnel, and we're ready and raring to go in this game amidst a wonderful atmosphere at Ibrox!
One key absentee in Liverpool’s rearguard is Trent Alexander-Arnold, who scored a 7th minute opener in the reverse fixture at Anfield. He and fellow defender Joel Matip are out injured, while Mohamed Salah, whose second-half penalty sealed Liverpool’s win, starts from the bench.
Rangers are yet to score a goal in this season’s Champions League, whilst they have conceded nine at the other end. However, with two former Liverpool players in their XI, namely Ben Davies and Ryan Kent, the Gers will fancy their chances against a Liverpool defence which hasn’t exactly been watertight so far this campaign.
LIVERPOOL SUBS: Adrian, Caoimhin Kelleher, Thiago Alcantara, James Milner, Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Andy Robertson, Stefan Bajcetic, Nat Phillips.
LIVERPOOL (4-3-3): Alisson; Joe Gomez, Ibrahima Konate, Virgil Van Dijk, Konstantinos Tsimikas; Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Harvey Elliott; Roberto Firmino, Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho.

Hosts Rangers sit bottom of the group and are yet to win a point in their three games so far, with their three straight losses including a 2-0 defeat by Liverpool at Anfield last time out.
