Commentary

Thanks for joining our commentary. Until next time, goodbye.
Frankfurt are back in Bundesliga action on Saturday at home to Wolfsburg. Sporting are also home in their Primeira Liga clash against Portimonense on the same day.
Sporting CP produced a clinical second-half performance to defeat Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0 in their Champions League clash. The German side spurned decent opportunities in the first half and paid the price. Marcus Edwards opened the scoring with a neat finish before he turned provider to tee up Trincao for Sporting's second. Nuno Santos then scored a third to secure the three points following fine work from Pedro Porro. Frankfurt taste defeat in their first Champions League outing, while the Portuguese outfit start their campaign with a fine victory on the road.

90' + 3' Pellegrini makes a vital interception at the back post to prevent Rochinha from latching on to Nuno Santos' cross. It would have been a tap-in for the forward.
90' + 1' WIDE! Pellegrini bursts down the left flank and drills a cross into the box. It deflects back to Kolo Muani, who has to shoot first-time, only to fire wide of the target.
90' There will be four minutes of added time.

82' GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!! NUNO SANTOS MAKES IT THREE!!!!!!! 3-0 SPORTING!!!!! The Portuguese side pour on the agony for the home team as Nuno Santos converts with a neat finish on the counter. Porro creates the opening single-handed by winning possession down the right flank and then driving past two Frankfurt defenders. He angles a cross to the back post for Nuno Santos to collect and slot past Trapp with composure on his left foot.
81' OVER! Pellegrini lines up the resulting free-kick, but he angles his effort over the bar. It is in those situations that Frankfurt are missing Filip Kostic.
80' Sow carries the ball to the edge of the box with a driving run before being felled by Ugarte. Frankfurt win a free-kick in a dangerous position.

72' Edwards is the fifth different Englishman to score a Champions League goal for a non-British club since 2018-19 (also Sancho, Bellingham, Tomori, Gomes), which is one more player than between 1992-93 and 2017-18 (McManaman, Beckham, Owen, Woodgate).
70' SAVE! Trincao probes in the final third and finds space to strike at goal on his left foot. Trapp makes the save before the Frankfurt defence clear the rebound away.
69' Sporting CP ended a run of 279 minutes without a goal in the Champions League, their longest since going 215 minutes without scoring from 9th December 2008 to 10th March 2009. When you wait for one goal, two come along in quick succession.
M. Edwards
Assist
Sporting CP
67' Edwards torments the Frankfurt defence with a probing run before he offloads to Trincao to complete the finish.

Goal
Sporting CP
67' GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!! TRINCAO DOUBLES SPORTING'S LEAD!!!! 2-0!!!!! Just like that Sporting extend their lead with a clinical counter finished well by Trincao. Pote starts the break as he collects a pass from Ugarte and feeds Edwards. The forward runs at the Frankfurt defence before he rolls the ball to Trincao. The Portuguese takes a neat first touch and his second is even better, drilling a low left-footed effort into the bottom-right corner with precision.

Goal
Sporting CP
65' GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!! EDWARDS BUNDLES A STRIKE HOME!!!!!! 1-0 SPORTING!!!!! The visitors take the lead as Edwards' deflected strike finds the bottom-right corner. Morita collects inside from Pote on the left flank and sends a cutback to Edwards in the middle. His first touch is loose, but he manages to get an effort away despite pressure from Ebimbe to find the back of the net.
63' OVER! Trincao lines up the resulting set-piece and curls his left-footed strike over the wall, and unfortunately for Sporting over the bar as well.
62' Ebimbe sticks out a leg and brings down Edwards on the edge of the box, presenting Sporting with a free-kick in a dangerous position.
59' Kolo Muani steals the ball from Coates after he attempts to intercept a pass from Gotze. He strikes at goal, but his shot is tame and straight at Adan.
57' WIDE! Sporting work the ball out to the right flank as Edwards tees up Porro for a blast in the inside-right channel, only to send his effort into the side-netting.
K. Jakić
Yellow Card
Eintracht Frankfurt
55' Jakic brings down Reis on the charge down the left flank and goes into the book.
53' BLOCK! Neto is straight into the action as he throws his body into the way of a strike from Kamada to deny the forward after he won possession from Coates in the Sporting box.
Luís Carlos
J. St. Juste
Sporting CP
52' St Juste cannot continue and makes way for Neto at the back.
51' St Juste goes down for the visitors and requires treatment on the field. It looked a non-contact injury, which is a concern for Sporting.
50' Jakic is played into space on the right flank and he has options in the box, but he curls his cross straight into the arms of Adan.
49' Kamada tries to release Pellegrini down the left flank, but his pass just evades the run of the wing-back and goes into touch.
47' Tuta rises in the box to connect with a free-kick from Pellegrini down the left flank, but he can only nod the ball wide of the target.
46' We're back under way in Frankfurt.
L. Pellegrini
C. Lenz
Eintracht Frankfurt
46' Lenz is withdrawn at the break for Pellegrini for the home side.
Oliver Glasner will be encouraged by his side's performance, but will be urging his team to find their clinical edge in the final third. Frankfurt have made neat approaches in and around the box. The only missing aspect has been the final ball. If they find that killer instinct a win is very much within their grasp.
It is goalless at the break between Frankfurt and Sporting CP in their Champions League clash. Randal Kolo Muani had the best chance of the half in the second minute, but he was denied by Antonio Adan. Sporting thought they had a penalty, only for the decision to be revered by VAR. Marcus Edwards had their best opening with a low strike that was saved by Kevin Trapp. The game remains in the balance at the interval.
45' + 4' HALF-TIME: EINTRACHT FRANKFURT 0-0 SPORTING CP
45' + 3' Lenz lifts the resulting free-kick into the box, but he overhits his delivery straight out for a goal-kick. Not what Frankfurt were looking for there.
45' + 2' Pote brings down Lindstrom on the right flank with a barge and hands Frankfurt a free-kick in a useful position.
45' + 1' Ebimbe lines up an ambitious effort from distance, only to scuff his strike harmlessly wide of the left post.
45' There will be four minutes of added time.
43' Sow was caught in the build up to Frankfurt's last chance by Coates, but appears to be okay after receiving treatment on the field.
43' CHANCE! Lindstrom whips a low cross into the box that misses Kolo Muani but deflects off Morita. The loose ball could land anywhere, but it spins into the hands of Adan.
42' Trincao makes a few neat touches in the final third and runs at Tuta, but the defender knocks the ball off the legs of the forward and out for a goal-kick.
40' Ugarte takes his time receiving treatment after being caught on the boot which further angers Frankfurt's fans. However, the visitors then waste the resulting free-kick.
E. Ndicka
Yellow Card
Eintracht Frankfurt
38' Ndicka catches Ugarte on the boot and goes into the book.
37' Kolo Muani battles for possession in the Sporting box and goes down under pressure from St Juste. The referee dismisses his appeal for a penalty and it's moot anyway because the forward was offside.
35' SAVE! Edwards plays the give-and-go with Porro and surges into the inside-right channel. He cuts back on his left foot and skips past Tuta's challenge before firing low and hard at goal. Trapp reads the strike and gets down to his left to make a smart stop.
32' Frankfurt are looking like the team the most likely to break the deadlock, but are lacking the quality with their final ball. Glasner will be encouraged with their approach play thus far though.
30' SAVE! Lindstrom threads the needle to send Kamada into the inside-right channel. He has space and time for a cutback towards Kolo Muani, but sends his effort too near to the post and allows Adan to push the ball away from danger.
28' Lindstrom relases Kolo Muani down the right flank and he looks for an early ball towards Kamada in the middle. Coates reads the danger from the cross and has to slide to divert it behind for a corner.
26' The home side probe down the right flank and Jakic has space to deliver a cross, but he hits his delivery into the hands of Adan.
23' Amorim will be the happier of the two managers at this stage of the game. Sporting have weathered the initial burst from Frankfurt without damage and are now trying to build a possession game.
21' Kamada feeds Lindstrom on the charge on the edge of the Sporting box, but the forward takes a loose second touch and solid defending from Porro sees the ball travel out for a goal-kick.
20' A long ball forward from the visitors is misjudged by Ndicka, but Lenz is alert to head the ball away from the lurking presence of Edwards.
17' WIDE! Lindstrom battles for the ball on the edge of the Sporting box and bundles his way past St Juste. He opens up space for a left-footed strike that he pulls just wide of the right post.
16' CHANCE! Adan plays a clearance straight to Lindstrom and he offloads into the inside-left channel for Kamada. The forward can either fire at goal or cross into the middle for Kolo Muani. He opts for the latter, but clips a tame delivery into the hands of Adan. A let-off for Sporting.
15' Ugarte comes in with a hard challenge on Kolo Muani and gives away a free-kick. There has been no shortage of set-pieces in the opening 15 minutes.
13' VAR! Lenz earns a reprieve as the penalty decision is overturned. Edwards slipped and went down on the boot of the Frankfurt defender after the fact, which the referee spots on his second view of the incident.
12' PENALTY TO SPORTING! Here's a decision to silence the crowd or at least change the mood. Lenz dives in on Edwards in the inside-right channel and the referee points to the spot.
11' The Frankfurt fans are in full voice, and it is no surprise considering it's their first Champions League game.
9' Glasner's men have enjoyed a steady start to the game and could well have been ahead if Kolo Muani had been more clinical.
7' Frankfurt build down the right flank and Lindstrom fires a low cross into the box for Kolo Muani to attack. The forward stretches, but can only steer his left-footed strike wide of the target.
H. Morita
Yellow Card
Sporting CP
6' Morita stretches on the slide in a battle with Jakic to win possession and catches the full-back. The Sporting midfielder goes into the book for his challenge and the home side have a free-kick in a useful position.
3' Ugarte goes down under contact from Lenz and wins a free-kick for the visitors. However, Frankfurt are able to clear the delivery from Porro into the middle with relative ease.
2' SAVE! Kolo Muani capitalises on a mistake from Porro and races through on goal. The forward only has Adan to beat, but the keeper spreads himself to deny the forward with a good stop with his legs.
1' We're under way in Frankfurt.

Frankfurt have made one change to their side that beat RB Leipzig last time out. Sebastien Rode misses out due to injury and is replaced in the middle of the park by Ebimbe. Kolo Muani continues to start ahead of Borre in the final third for Glasner's men.

Sporting secured their spot in the Champions League group stage after finishing second in the Primeira Liga last season. Ruben Amorim's men did reach the last 16 of the competition last term before being hammered by Manchester City. The Portuguese outfit will harbour ambitions of advancing beyond the group stage once more. Sporting have been hit and miss at the start of the current campaign, but did record an impressive 2-0 win over Estoril on the road last time out.
Frankfurt qualified for the Champions League following their Europa League triumph over Rangers. This is their first foray into the Champions League as it is known today, with their own previous experience of Europe's top competition coming in the 1960 European Cup, where they were beaten finalists by Real Madrid. After a tough start to the 2022/23 season, Frankfurt have found their form of late, beating Werder Bremen and RB Leipzig in their last matches, hammering the latter 4-0 on home soil. Oliver Glasner's men do need to raise their game tonight against Sporting.
