Schalke's task does not get much easier in their closing fixtures, as they must tackle RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt before the season's end. Depending on Dortmund's fortunes, Bayern could even confirm the title by beating Leipzig next time out.

Taking one step closer to retaining their Bundesliga crown once again, Bayern Munich simply crushed a meek Schalke side today; scoring four times after the break to complete a cruise towards victory. Gnabry bagged a brace and Mazraoui added the cherry on top during second-half stoppage time. That takes them four points clear of Dortmund, who kick off later today, while their visitors remain mired in relegation trouble with just two games left to save their skin.

Schalke have a record of 11 losses from 13 games when trailing at half-time in the Bundesliga this season, so there is little precedent to suggest they can strike back and stun Bayern during the second half.

In cruise control following their opening goal midway through the first half, Bayern Munich are on course for a 21st league win of the season, and but for some smart saves from Schwolow they could have been further in front at the break. Schalke's need for points is almost equally acute, but they have shown no signs of breaching the Bayern back line; failing to register a shot on target. It would take a dramatic turn of events to see the home side stumble before the finish line, and victory is surely theirs for the taking.

45' + 2' In the second of at least four stoppage-time minutes indicated by the fourth official, Schalke's entire team is camped inside their defensive third. They simply want to avoid leaking more goals and making their task an even more formidable one.

45' Bayern have stepped off the accelerator over the past few minutes, and are patiently probing for more openings. Their lead is already a comfortable one, with Schalke offering next to nothing in attack so far.

43' SAVE! When Coman chips up a cross from the left side of the area, Gnabry reacts well to reach it first. However, his close-range header is aimed straight at Schwolow, who is able to make another solid save!

41' With just 30 per cent of possession so far, Schalke have yet to force a single shot on target today. Bayern have been rock-solid at the back and are fully focused on taking another step towards the title.

39' A rare attack from the visitors sees Kral nod the ball down for Frey on the edge of Bayern's box, but the striker's shot crashes straight into De Ligt and the home side ultimately clear the danger.

25' Having fallen to the turf in the Schalke area, following a surging run that was cut off by three converging defenders, Musiala requires medical treatment. It appears he was caught on the jaw by a stray elbow.

14' SMART STOP! After Musiala's shot takes several deflections and bobble invitingly into his path, Muller's strike from a tight angle is denied by a Schwolow dive down to his left! The goalkeeper covers his near post well and diverts the ball behind for a corner.

12' Bayern push on for the game's first goal, as Gnabry just fails to make contact with Mazraoui's cross from the right side of the box. Only five yards out, the Germany forward really should have done better!

10' OFF THE LINE! Muller dances through the area, with several Schalke players frightened to make contact, but failing to gain his balance he can't force a shot on goal and instead the ball rolls to Coman 10 yards out. He lashes it towards the target, but Van den Berg is well-placed to make a crucial goal-line block! So close to an opener!

9' Bayern have won all of these teams' last nine league meetings, with a cumulative goal difference of 32-2. All of the last five went without a single goal being conceded by the Bavarian giants, who scored 22 times themselves.

7' SAVE! Diving low to his right, Schwolow keeps out a driven strike by Gnabry which seems bound for the bottom corner! He hit it hard and low, but the Schalke keeper was equal to it!

6' An injury to Krauss after a collision between the Schalke midfielder and Kimmich sees the action paused momentarily, but it soon resumes when he makes his way to the touchline for further treatment.

5' Having drifted into a central position from the right, Mazraoui misplaces a pass to Muller on the edge of the area and Bayern's attacking move breaks down.

3' After some early Schalke pressure sees Bayern forced to defend, Gnabry nearly springs clear on the break from inside his own half, but a couple of loose touches allows the visitors' defence to recover.

While their fans will not want them to aid Dortmund's title hopes in any way, success in Munich would aid their aim of avoiding relegation for the second time in two years.

With three games left to play, title-chasing Bayern Munich sit one point clear of Borussia Dortmund at the Bundesliga summit, as their quest for an 11th straight league crown nears its climax. While Thomas Tuchel has endured a mixed start to his reign in Bavaria, after losing to his former club Mainz last month Bayern bounced back with wins over Hertha Berlin and Werder Bremen. For all their recent troubles, Die Roten have won five of their last six home matches in the league - scoring 18 goals in the process - and they are unbeaten in 24 meetings with today's visitors.
