Rodri was having a shocker of a game, but he showed his elite mentality by popping up and winning Manchester City the Champions League. After monstering their rivals in the Premier League, FA Cup and every other round of European competition this season, City finally met their match in an intelligent and disciplined Inter. It was, in fact, one of the worst performances of 2023 by Pep Guardiola's side.
But in a scrappy game they needed a scrappy goal, and Rodri provided it, pouncing inside the area on a loose ball and firing it low into the net, ending City's long wait for Champions League glory and completing the treble.
And it must have been all the more sweeter for Rodri, as he was left out of the starting line-up in the final defeat to Chelsea two years ago.
