The England FA has sparked debate on social media in Africa following their decision to keep Gareth Southgate as their manager despite their World Cup exit in Qatar.
The Three Lions bowed out of the global competition in the Gulf nation in the Round of 16 after suffering a 2-1 defeat against champions France at Al Bayt Stadium on December 10.
With uncertainty surrounding the future of the 52-year-old Southgate, the FA confirmed in a statement on Sunday he will stay on and lead the Three Lions to Euro 2024.
Supporters in Africa have received the news with mixed reactions with another section comparing England to Nigeria, who failed to qualify for the tournament in Qatar after losing to Ghana on the away goals rule.
… and England's miserable trophy drought shall continue... - Bamidele Johnson
Many years of trophy droughts. - Barnabas Oryina

With this man, England is going nowhere. - Paul Okafor
I can't stand England winning anything, this gives me hope they will continue to trophy drought. Good decision FA, other countries sack their managers at World Cup exists, why should the inventors of football follow such insignificant nations? - @Zubair56102136
I don't know why people are bashing England FA for sticking with him, with all the world class managers they've had in the past and the world class players yet they do not achieve what Gareth Southgate had achieved. - Ayodele Afolabi
With all this squad, England cannot reach the World Cup semi-finals? France that beat them had more than six first team players injured that couldn't make it to the World Cup.
This England FA is like Nigeria FA with the same feather. - Nkpa Daniel Ahamefula
What a shame? A chance to bow out gracefully and pass on the responsibility to another coach that would play attacking football and use the new and young talented players that we have available.
Same old, same story with current coaching staff. - Pius
Southgate has done a great job since taking over from the shambles that was Sven, Capello and Hodgson. But now was the right time for a world class manager to take England to the next level. - @jaspermather26
Until they stop overhyping English players in the Premier League and making them look so expensive e.g Harry [Maguire]. Their coach or manager will continue to have problems in selection and management. - Arisa Ugochukwu
I think the FA is right. Southgate may be average but if you take a look at the two foreign coaches that were there previously, you realise that they too didn't take England anywhere.
In fact, Southgate has achieved so much, Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello were not even able to take them to the Euro finals with better squads than what Southgate has had. - Gordon Bare
He is a good manager just that England do have bad luck when it comes to tournaments. - Ojih Joseph Okpanachi
This felt like a consolidation of worth he has for them. - Michael Eje
England is not winning anything with Southgate. They’ll end up like Belgium. Making waste of all these talents. - @EugyneAMenz
Everybody is resigning except this guy. Check England's performance prior to the World Cup and even at World Cup check the oppositions England faced in the group stage. - @thunderghlive
Big Sam would be a good choice - Evans Maguo
Good development. He [Southgate] should maintain the present squad. - Seun Santa Drogba Adekanmbi
Excellent news, Southgate is the best England manager in my lifetime. We need to stick with him. = Aneel Ahmed
