Chennaiyin's super-substitute Kwame Karikari helped his team register a comeback win against Kolkata giants ATK Mohun Bagan in their first match of the 2022-23 Indian Super League season.
Manvir Singh broke the deadlock in the first-half and Bagan were the more confident team at the break. Chennaiyin grew into the game and close to the 60-minute mark, new boss Thomas Brdaric brought on Kwame Karikari from the bench.
The Ghanaian forward scored from the spot before setting up Rahim Ali for Chennaiyin's second that ultimately clinched the three points.

Rahim Ali came up with the all-important winner from a Karikari assist and the Mohun Bagan academy graduate did what he was asked to do on the pitch.

The striker from Ghana made instant impact after coming off the bench in the 59th minute. Only four minutes later, he drew Vishal Kaith into a foul inside the box. He dispatched the penalty from 12 yards and later came up with the assist for Rahim Ali's winner.

The ATK Mohun Bagan goalkeeper had an outing to forget in between the sticks against his former team. He fouled Kwame Karikari and gave Chennaiyin a penalty and the opportunity get back into the game.

Bagan were aggressive and dominant initially in the final third but their defence ultimately let them down. Both goals could have been avoided if defenders were more alert.

Chennaiyin were reduced to just three shots on target over the whole game. However, they scored off two of those and both scenarios could've been managed in a better way.

There were a lot of things the Bagan midfield could have done to make more impact defensively. They did just about enough help the team hold on to 55 percentage of the ball.

new signing Dimitri Petratos came up with the assist for Manvir's opener. Hugo Boumous along with the two wing-backs in Ashique Kuruniyan and Asish Rai were the ones setting the tempo of the match early on in the game.
