AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2022 Power Rankings: Marselino Ferdinan, Ilhan Fandi lead the race

Though the War Elephants have produced plenty of magical moments throughout the campaign so far, Chatmongkol has unfortunately not been involved in any. Despite his undeniable potential, the fierce competition within the squad and the preference of Sasalak Haiprakhon in the pecking order resulted in the young defender remaining an unused substitute for 6 matches and being omitted from the matchday squad entirely for the encounters against Indonesia and Cambodia. Though the final match has now passed, it is a shame that Chatmongkol was unable to contribute to his team’s success and showcase his talents on the grandest stage in ASEAN; however, with his bright future, he will undoubtedly be granted further opportunities to demonstrate his abilities in future tournaments.

With the likes of Shakir Hamzah and Christopher van Huizen ahead of the 20-year-old in the pecking order, Farhan has found it difficult to see some game time after being left as an unused substitute in all three fixtures so far. Farhan eventually came on as a substitute in the 71st minute to make his long-awaited Singapore debut against Malaysia. Though he could not make much of an impact, it was clear for all to see that the Lions have a gem of a player on their hands.

The right-winger was once again unable to influence much of the game against Laos, though his side managed to grab their first point in this campaign, scoring two goals in the process. The winger played the full 90 minutes against a Vietnam side that hadn’t conceded a single goal and was unable to have any sort of meaningful impact in the game.

It is not uncommon for a side like Laos to be pinned back, defending deep for good chunks of their games. Though he is a winger, the 20-year-old has started all four games for Laos and has put in some solid defensive displays, helping his side grab their first point in this campaign. The tenacity and grit of Chony Wenpaserth has to be commended.

The young gun managed to bag another assist against Cambodia, bringing his total assist tally to two. And unfortunately, that will be his final contribution for his side in this AFF Championship campaign, as Brunei have been eliminated after the group stage.

While Sandro was able to put in impressive performances, grabbing a goal against Brunei in the process, that would be his final contributions as the Azkals have been eliminated from the tournament after finishing fourth in Group A.

After putting in some inspiring performances, the youngster eventually got his goal against Thailand thanks to a rifling left-footed shot past Thai keeper Kittipong. Having played almost the full 360 minutes out of a possible 360 minutes for his side, Sieng Chanthea managed to impress fans all over ASEAN with his dangerous movements, passes and silky dribbles.

Despite having a great start to the campaign with a goal against Mynamar, and putting in great shifts against Laos and Vietnam, Ilhan’s time at the AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2022 is probably over. Though Ilhan was named as a substitute against Causeway rivals Malaysia, he was left on the bench for the entirety of the game. It was later revealed that Ilhan sustained a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and will undergo reconstruction surgery, likely leaving him sidelined for six to nine months.

Pratama Arhan ranks joint-second in the top assists charts, boasting two assists in four games. Not too shabby for a left-back. The youngster got his second assist with his trademark long throw against Philippines. It was business as usual for Pratama as he featured against Vietnam in both legs of the semi-finals, but was unable to convert his trademark long throws into a goal scoring chance for his side.

The 18-year-old bagged his first goal of the tournament against the Azkals thanks to a clever one-two between Marselino and Saddil Ramdani inside the box, with the former placing a cool effort beyond the reach of Philippines keeper Pinthus. The youngster can return to Indonesia with his head held high having put in several good shifts throughout the tournament, bagging a goal and an assist in the process.
