Predicting Orlando Pirates' XI to face Royal AM

11:48 PM IST 16/08/22
 Orlando Pirates, August 2022
The Buccaneers will be on the road for the second time this season when they travel to KwaZulu-Natal for Wednesday's encounter

Orlando Pirates visit Royal AM as they push to recover from last weekend's 1-0 Premier Soccer League defeat by Chippa United at home.

It was the Soweto giants' first loss of the season and they now seek to rediscover their winning touch.

But they face equally wounded opponents who are also coming from a defeat and appear dangerous at home, where they beat Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 at Chatsworth Stadium recently.

GOAL makes a prediction about how Pirates coach Jose Riveiro could line up his team on Wednesday.

  • Richard Ofori Orlando Pirates 2022.

    GOALKEEPER - Richard Ofori

The Ghanaian conceded his second goal in as many games against Chippa United.

He will be out to avoid shipping in another goal for a third match running.

  • Bandile Shandu, Junior Mendieta, Stellenbosch vs Orlando Pirates August 2022,

    RIGHT-BACK - Bandile Shandu

Shandu came on as a late substitute in the last match, replacing Thabiso Monyane who appeared to be struggling.

If he starts, it would be second time for the former Maritzburg United man to do so in a season he has so far not been a regular after a dream debut Pirates campaign last term.

  • Deon Hotto, Orlando Pirates, November 2021

    LEFT-BACK - Deon Hotto

Hotto has been operating as a wing-back with the support of Innocent Maela who will be on the left side of a three-man central defence set-up.

  • Innocent Maela, Orlando Pirates, August 2022

    CENTRE-BACK - Innocent Maela

After the Pirates defence was breached in the last two matches, Maela would not want to captain his side in another game they concede in.

It is to be seen if he will manage to marshal the Buccaneers backline to a clean sheet.

  • Olisa Ndah, Orlando Pirates, September 2021

    CENTRE-BACK - Olisa Ndah

The lanky Nigeria international would also try to avoid the blemish of starting in three games and being part of a defence that concedes.

His aerial presence is needed to deal with the likes of Samir Nurkovic and Ruzaigh Gamildien, who are good at connecting with high balls.

  • Nkosinathi Sibisi, Orlando Pirates, August 2022

    CENTRE-BACK - Nkosinathi Sibisi

Sibisi was yellow-carded in the first half against Chippa and was substituted later on as coach Riveiro appeared to fear the tough-tackling defender could be given his marching orders by referee Philangenkosi Khumalo.

Sibisi already has a goal to his name this season and would be hoping to find the back of the net again on his return to his home province.

  • Thabang Monare of Orlando Pirates.

    CENTRAL MIDFIELDER - Thabang Monare

Facing a Royal AM side dominated with experienced players, Monare is one player Riveiro would need for Wednesday's battle.

  • Goodman Mosele, Orlando Pirates, August 2022

    CENTRAL MIDFIELDER - Goodman Mosele

Mosele has started in all three matches under Riveiro and could be trusted again against Royal AM.

He has, however, not been the offensive player he is known to be and would be keen to improve on Wednesday.

  • Vincent Pule, Orlando Pirates, August 2022

    RIGHT MIDFIELDER - Vincent Pule

After playing 23 minutes against Stellenbosch and the whole match against Chippa, Pule might have shaken off the rust of not being involved in competitive football since October 2021.

Pirates fans would be hoping he has now warmed up to help deliver maximum points at Chatsworth.

  • Thembinkosi Lorch, Orlando Pirates, August 2022

    LEFT MIDFIELDER - Thembinkosi Lorch

Lorch would be hoping to get his first goal of the season against Royal AM.

  • Bienvenu Eva Nga, Orlando Pirates, August 2022

    CENTRE-FORWARD - Bienvenu Eva Nga

Pirates are still struggling with attacking frailties and Riveiro started Kwame Peprah in the last match as he tried to address the problem.

But the Ghanaian disappointed and that could pave way for Eva Nga's return.
