Orlando Pirates Player Ratings: Mixed evening for Sibisi, Maela

12:47 PM IST 11/08/22
Innocent Maela Orlando Pirates 2022.
Bucs didn't offer a great deal of threat in attack and had to grind hard for a point against a young and inexperienced Cape side

While Orlando Pirates fought hard against Stellenbosch FC in Wednesday night's 1-1 draw, there is plenty of room for improvement.

The draw in the Winelands followed on from Pirates' 1-0 win over Swallows FC last weekend, a game in which they also did not really fire on all cylinders.

GOAL assesses the Sea Robbers players' individual performances:

  • Richard Ofori, Orlando Pirates, March 2022

    GOALKEEPER: Richard Ofori - 6

Not really at fault for the goal, and otherwise didn't have too many saves to make as Stellies either shot wide of the mark or his defence did the job.

  • Bandile Shandu Orlando Pirates 2022.

    RIGHT-BACK: Bandile Shandu - 7

Shandu was the standout player for Pirates in the opening half, impressing with his ability to get dangerous balls into the opposition box. Not as involved in attack after the break, but kept things tight in defence.

  • Nkosinathi Sibisi, Bafana Bafana, June 2021

    CENTRE-BACK: Nkosinathi Sibisi - 6

Impressive at times, but he was also beaten badly by van Wyk twice. Scored a brilliant header.

  • Olisa Ndah of Orlando Pirates.

    CENTRE-BACK: Olisa Ndah -5

The Nigerian's first start of the season, looked a little rusty and was fortunate not to pick up a second yellow card.

  • Innocent Maela, Orlando Pirates, August 2021

    LEFT-BACK: Innocent Maela - 5

A mixed evening - saved a goal on his own line, but was caught flat-footed for Stelies' equaliser.

  • Goodman Mosele, Orlando Pirates, August 2022

    CENRE-MID: Goodman Mosele - 6

Tried to make things happen, a wholehearted performance as he made tackles in his own box, contributed in attack and he nearly scored in the second half.

  • Thembinkosi Lorch Deano van Rooyen

RIGHT WING: Thembinkosi Lorch - 5

Tried hard but didn't have much joy on the night; a quiet game by his standards.

  • Ben Motshwari, Orlando Pirates, March 2022

    CENTRE-MID: Ben Motshwari - 6

Kept things tidy but didn't give the Sea Robbers a lot of attacking momentum.

  • Kabelo Dlamini, Orlando Pirates, November 2021

    CENTRE-MID/ Number 10: Kabelo Dlamini - 5

Had a few bright moments but didn't really link up enough with Bienevu Eva Nga.

  • Tebogo Tlolane of Pirates.

LEFT WING: Tebogo Tlolane - 4

A very rare start, but Tlolane failed to make his mark as he looked off the pace and he was subbed at the interval.

  • Bienvenu Eva Nga, Orlando Pirates, August 2022

STRIKER: Bienvenu Eva Nga - 4

A frustrating night for the big man who barely got onto the ball - his runs seemed out of sync with his teammates.

  • Deon Hotto, Orlando Pirates, November 2021

    Deon Hotto - 6

Surprisingly left on the bench, the Namibian was a significant upgrade for Tlolane.

  • Vincent Pule, Orlando Pirates, October 2021

    Vincent Pule - 6

Still finding his feet in his first appearance of the season, a couple of his probing passes showed what he can bring to Bucs. Pirates need a fit and firing Pule.

  • Miguel Timm Orlando Pirates Jayden Adams Stellenbosch

    Miguel Timm - 6

Had to work hard to contain the energetic young Stellies midfielders, generally had a solid game.

  • Thabiso Monyane, Orlando Pirates, August 2022

    Thabiso Monyane - 7

Put in some very dangerous crosses and made a big impact down the right flank in his eight-minute cameo.

  • Tapelo Xoki Orlando Pirates

    Tapelo Xoki - NA

Wasn't involved much after coming on in the 87th minute.
