Odisha Kerala Blasters ISL 2022-23
The Blasters have dropped points after scoring first yet again as they lose their first away contest of the season.

Kerala Blasters were dealt with a 2-1 defeat at Odisha in an Indian Super League (ISL) clash at the Kalinga Stadium on Sunday.

Harmanjot Khabra (35') gave the visitors the lead going into the break but Jerry Mawihmingthanga (54') and Pedro Martin (86') turned the result in favour of Josep Gombau's men who were playing in front of their home fans for the first time in over two years.

The win took the hosts within a point of leaders, Hyderabad, while the Ivan Vukomanovic's side drop to ninth on the table with 3 points from 3 games.

    The Winners

    Harmanjot Khabra

The 33-year-old showed his level of experience in getting under the skin of the opponent at either end especially as he evaded his marker to bag the opener in the first half. He defended resolutely on the night in order to delay the equaliser, too.

    Adrian Luna

The playmaker was once again in the thick of the action and often looked like the only creative link up front. It was his assist in the form of a pin point delivery in the box and could have well had two assists, if not a goal from the corner flag as well.

  • The Losers

    Kerala Blasters' defense

Other than a few good blocks, the Kerala defense was defending cluelessly in their own box on more than a couple of occasions and eventually allowed Odisha to complete a come-from-behind win on the evening. It's something last season's runners-up will look to improve upon as they have conceded the most number of goals (8) at this stage, even though some teams have not played as many games yet.

  • Kerala Blasters Ratings: Defense

Hormipam Ruivah was not able to keep Diego Mauricio in check from Odisha's left channel in a move that almost resulted in a goal - one that was disallowed after a rather poor clearance by Jessel Carneiro. Khabra put his body in the line to prevent Saul Crespo from getting a clear header on target in the first half. Marko Leskovic put the ball in the path of Jerry to tap in the equaliser and the entire backline was left ball watching as Martin bagged the late winner.

  • Midfield

Adrian Luna almost bent in a corner towards the far post besides putting in the assist for Khabra's goal after a combination play with Puitea on the left wing. However, to sum it up, it was almost a case of over reliance on the Uruguayan to deliver the ball in the final third for the best of Kerala's chances in the game. The play though the middle was also far from impressive.

  • Dimitrios Diamantakos Kerala Blasters ISL 2022-23

Ivan Kaliuzhnyi was left occupied picking the remains deeper in his own half but to speak for the out-and-out marksman, Diamantakos Dimitrios was involved in a few good chances. He headed one into the path of Odisha goalkeeper Amrinder Singh and was met by a good block by Sahil Panwar as the latter chance was created by substitute Rahul KP. More importantly, however, the Greek forward put himself in promising positions to potentially score.
