Senegal were highly fancied coming into the Africa Cup of Nations after a year-long unbeaten run, and with the elimination of some of the tournament's biggest names they are 7/4 (2.75) favourites to lift the trophy for the first time.

The Lions of Taranga face surprise quarter-finalists Benin on Wednesday, who are making their debut in the last eight after a shock win over Morocco in the previous round.

William Hill make Senegal 42/100 (1.42) favourites to win in 90 minutes and offer them at 1/5 (1.20) to qualify. Benin can be backed at 8/1 (9.00) to win without extra time and at 10/3 (4.33) to continue their incredible progress to the semi-finals.

Team news

Benin have centre-back Khaled Adenon suspended following his red card in the last 16. Neither side have any major injury concerns ahead of the clash.

Preview 

Senegal lost their long unbeaten record in their second group game against Algeria going down 1-0, yet that has been their only setback of the competition so far.

Aliou Cisse's men have won their other three games without conceding a goal and boast Liverpool forward Sadio Mane in strong form.

Benin, meanwhile, have drawn all four of their matches, overcoming Morocco on penalties in the last 16 after a 1-1 draw, while their recent record against Senegal has seen them lose their last three encounters.

There seems no reason to oppose Senegal, who look much the better side and are playing well, scoring goals, and defending solidly.

Senegal to win to nil is available at 17/20 (1.85) and has paid out in three of the side's four matches in the competition so far.

Benin have failed to score in two of their four games and on Wednesday they will face the best defensive unit they have come up against. Backing the 2002 runners up to win without conceding (in 90 minutes) seems the best way to get Senegal onside at a reasonable price.
