Commentary

That's all for today, goodbye!
United's name goes into the hat for next round, with the draw taking place tomorrow after Manchester City and Liverpool's game. Next up for them though is a visit from Nottingham Forest in the Premier League. Burnley's attention turns back to their promotion charge, as they face Birmingham City in the Championship.
United are through to the EFL Cup quarter-final with a 2-0 win over Burnley. In a dominant first half for the hosts, Eriksen gave them the lead with a close-range finish. Rashford doubled their advantage just before the hour mark with a wonderful goal, starting his weaving run in his own half before confidently picking out the bottom corner. Burnley had three golden opportunities to get themselves back into the game, but Churlinov and Barnes couldn't take them.
90' + 4' FULL-TIME: MANCHESTER UNITED 2-0 BURNLEY.
90' + 2' Dubravka is caught on the ball in his box and Burnley win back possession. They don't take advantage of the keeper being out of position though, and United clear their lines.
C. Taylor
I. Maatsen
90' And Taylor is also coming on for the last few minutes for Maatsen.
S. Bastien
J. Brownhill
90' Brownhill is also making way, with Bastien replacing him.
C. Egan-Riley
J. Cork
90' Burnley are making a triple change as we head into four minutes of stoppage time. Cork is the first to go off, with Egan-Riley on for him.
Bruno Fernandes
Yellow Card
89' Fernandes crashes into an off-balance Roberts, sending him to ground. It's a costly booking for him as it means he will miss the quarter-final if they hold out for the win.
87' Burnley are keeping the ball well in their own half at the moment, but are struggling to get in behind United. Cullen looks for Brownhill through the middle but hits it straight to Eriksen.
B. Williams
T. Malacia
86' And Malacia is also taken off, with Williams replacing him.
Fred
M. Rashford
85' Final changes for United now. Rashford is the first to go off, with Fred coming on in his place.
84' GOOD SAVE! Fernandes slips as he plays it forward, but Maatsen leaves it, allowing Antony to race onto it behind him. He cuts inside before drilling a low shot on goal which Peacock-Farrell pushes it away.
S. Twine
A. Barnes
83' That miss was Barnes' last involvement in the game as he's replaced by Twine.
82' WIDE! Casemiro is put under pressure inside his own box and he slices his clearance straight to Gudmundsson, who quickly squares it to Barnes. He takes the shot first time, getting a lot of power on it, but sends it just wide of the near post.
Antony
Yellow Card
80' Antony isn't happy with the foul against him and has a little kick out at Maatsen after he goes down. He's shown a yellow card.
78' Rashford has now been involved in 13 goals in his last 12 EFL Cup appearances, scoring nine and assisting four.
76' Casemiro clears his lines and Fernandes sets Antony on the break. He surges forward but then plays the cross behind Fernandes. He keeps it alive to square it to Eriksen, but his pass hits Gudmundsson.
74' McTominay bursts forward through the middle this time before picking out Rashford ahead of him. Harwood-Bellis gets across him to cut off the run, and Fernandes curls the resulting free-kick wide.
L. Shaw
A. Wan-Bissaka
72' And Shaw is also coming on to replace Wan-Bissaka, which will see Malacia switch out to right-back.
A. Elanga
A. Martial
72' Double change for United now. Martial is the first to make way, with Elanga on in his place.
70' SO CLOSE! It's another golden chance for Burnley! Eriksen is dispossessed and Churlinov's long-range shot pinballs off the defenders into Barnes. He lifts his shot over Dubravka as the keeper rushes off his line, but it sails just over the bar.
68' GREAT CHANCE! McTominay can't sort his feet out in the box, and Burnley are able to break quickly on the counter. It's a brilliant cross by Gudmundsson to Churlinov, who gets in behind Wan-Bissaka, but he pokes his shot wide of the far post.
66' Wan-Bissaka does well to keep the ball in play down the right, and he pulls it back to Rashford. He whips a cross towards Lindelof at the far post, but it's just too high for him.
D. Churlinov
B. Manuel
64' Benson isn't going to be able to carry on and he makes his way straight off the pitch, with Churlinov on in his place.
63' Benson, who has a lot of strapping on his knee, has gone down in need of treatment after seemingly jarring it. He looks to be in a lot of pain and the medical team are on to treat him.
61' United are on the front foot again here, with Fernandes looking for another big switch out to the right. Antony is chasing it, but there's just too much on it for him to keep in.
Antony
A. Garnacho
58' United are making their first change following that goal. It's Garnacho that's taken off, with Antony on to replace him.
S. McTominay
Assist
57' McTominay couldn't help Wan-Bissaka out of a tight spot, but he was on hand to nick it off Brownhill before setting Rashford on the counter.
M. Rashford
Goal
57' RASHFORD SCORES! Burnley lose the ball high upfield and United punish them for it! McTominay touches it into Rashford and he drives down the right before dribbling past Beyer with a lovely bit of footwork on the edge of the box. He has a quick glance up before drilling his low shot across goal and into the far bottom corner. 2-0 United!
55' Harwood-Bellis slides in with a tackle on Martial, and though he got the ball, he took out the player with his trailing leg. The Frenchman stays down for a while but can carry on without treatment.
53' WIDE! McTominay's wayward pass is cut out by Benson, who weaves away from Eriksen before trying his luck from the edge of the box again. He slices at it though, sending it well wide of the far post.
51' GREAT CHANCE! It's a wonderful switch from Fernandes out to Fernandes, who brings it down before laying it into McTominay. He hits it first time but gets his angles wrong and it curls wide of the near post.
50' Harwood-Bellis' big switch is cut out by Wan-Bissaka, but Gudmundsson quickly wins it back. He looks for Barnes in the middle, but it's too high for him.
J. Cullen
Yellow Card
48' The referee initially allowed play to carry on after Cullen tugged back Martial, but he's now gone back to show the midfielder the first booking of the game.
46' Burnley get us back underway for the second half!
Ten Hag will be fairly pleased with his side's performance so far, though he will still be looking for improvement in the second half as they look to try and put this game to bed. Burnley have caused some problems of their own though, and Kompany will be urging them to put more pressure on the hosts, who have sometimes looked shaky at the back.
Eriksen's goal gives United a 1-0 lead over Burnley at half-time. The hosts were the better side in the first half an hour, with Garnacho and Lindelof having good chances before Eriksen's fired in Wan-Bissaka's cross from close range. Burnley responded well to going behind, with Benson, in particular, causing real problems, but they couldn't find a way through.
45' + 1' HALF-TIME: MANCHESTER UNITED 1-0 BURNLEY.
44' Burnley are pressing high up the field, but United beat it, with Eriksen working it through the lines. McTominay helps it onto Rashford, but he set off too early, and the flag brings his run to an end.
42' United are still keeping Burnley penned back in their own half here, but can't pick out a pass into the box. Fernandes has three defenders in front of him, and can't squeeze a cross through the tight space.
40' SAVE! Brownhill's heavy touch bounces straight into McTominay's path and he drives down the right before squaring it into Martial in the box. He takes a touch before curling it on goal, but Peacock-Farrell tips it wide.
38' There's another nervy moment for Dubravka at the back! It's played back to him and he takes his eyes off it at the last moment. It skims off his foot, but he's able to recover before it can cross the line.
36' OFF THE LINE! Dubravka pushed Benson's curling shot wide but makes a mess of the resulting corner. He misses the punch and the ball bounces off him and onto Rashford before looping towards their own net. Casemiro scrambles back to spare his blushes and clear it off the line.
35' Burnley are starting to up the tempo when they win the ball back here and Benson is getting some joy down the right. Twice he gets the better of Malacia, but he can't pick out a team-mate in the middle.
33' CHANCE! Barnes breaks forward from his own half and carries it a long way before knocking it out to Benson on the right. He cuts inside before hitting the shot low and hard at the near post, but he can only find the side netting.
31' CHANCE! Cork takes a heavy touch off his chest and Fernandes is quickly in to pick his pocket. He lays it off to Martial who turns and curls a shot on goal, but it's straight at Peacock-Farrell.
29' Roberts shimmies his way past Malacia down the right and pulls a low cross back into the box. Barnes can't sort out his feet quick enough to control it and McTominay hooks it away.
A. Wan-Bissaka
Assist
27' Wan-Bissaka just peeled off the back of his defender and it gave him the space he needed to stretch to put in the cross.
C. Eriksen
Goal
27' ERIKSEN SCORES! United quickly win the ball back after their last attack broke down and it's switched out to Wan-Bissaka on the right. He stretches to reach it, fizzing it across the face of goal with his first touch and Eriksen is there to fire it into the roof of the net from close range. 1-0 United!
26' Martial touches it out to Garnacho on the left and he has four in the box to aim for. He's looking for Rashford on the penalty spot, but can't squeeze it through the crowd.
24' It's better from Burnley here, as they enjoy a spell of possession. It's all in front of United though as they struggle to carry it across the halfway line.
22' Again, United patiently work it out from the back until Fernandes turns and sees the space open up through the middle. He has Rashford and Martial ahead of him but plays the throughball between them both.
20' Burnley are being penned back deep in their own half as United keep the pressure on. Casemiro goes long looking for Martial, but it's another comfortable one for the visitors to deal with.
18' United look to Garnacho to make something happen down their left again, but he can't get away from Roberts. He's forced to play it back to Malacia and the hosts start again.
16' United break quickly on the counter and Martial spins before threading it through for Garnacho. He bursts into the box, but a heavy touch gets away from him and he can't keep it in play.
14' Burnley have won just one of their last 23 away games against United in all competitions (D8 L14), winning 2-0 in the Premier League in January 2020.
12' United are upping the pressure here as Rashford curls a good cross in. Martial's deft touch helps it on, but Cork helps it out for a corner. Eriksen picks out Lindelof at the near post with the set-piece, but the defender thumps it over.
10' The corner is taken short by United and Fernandes lifts a lovely cross into Rashford, who has acres of space. He volleys a first-time shot on goal, but it pinballs around before the offside flag goes up.
8' SAVE! It's a poor pass out from Harwood-Bellis and Rashford cuts it out to set Fernandes through the middle. He threads it through to Garnacho, who gets it out of his feet before hitting a tame shot that Peacock-Farrell smothers.
6' Eriksen plays it down the right for Rashford to chase, but he can't shake Maatsen. The left-back wins it back, earning a huge cheer from the away side in the process, and sets Burnley on the counter.
4' Peacock-Farrell lifts it long over the top to Gudmundsson, who gets a yard on Wan-Bissaka to curl a cross into the box. Barnes' glancing header bounces well wide of the far post, but the flag is up against him anyway.
2' It's United that are enjoying possession early on here, though they're struggling to pass it upfield. McTominay goes long towards Garnacho, but Roberts cuts it out.
1' Fernandes gets the game underway for United!
