GOAL highlights the outstanding moments from the continent's stars in Europe

Victor Osimhen put an underwhelming game at Inter Milan behind him with another goal for Napoli against Sampdoria on Sunday.

In Spain, Samuel Chukwueze was heavily involved in Villarreal beating defending La Liga and European champions Real Madrid.

In this feature, GOAL's Seye Omidiora picks out some of the under-the-radar stats you may have missed this week - and explains what they mean for Africa's biggest stars.

  • John Paintsil KRC Genk.

    Joseph Paintsil

Paul Onuachu scoring for Genk again — his 14th league goal in 16 appearances (12 starts) — dominates headlines but Paintsil’s superior showing must not be watered down.

The Ghanaian fashioned a staggering five chances, with three categorised as clear-cut opportunities and set up two goals in the 3-0 success over Club Brugge.

The 24-year-old Paintsil is now up to eight assists in the Pro League, only teammate Mike Tresor (13) has more.

  • Samuel Chukwueze against Real Madrid.

    Samuel Chukwueze

While the Nigerian could have made better decisions at times against Real Madrid, he still delivered a commendable showing in Villarreal’s 2-1 success on Saturday.

No player outdid Chukwueze’s Expected Assists (xA) of 0.7 or was involved in more shot-creating actions (eight) than the Super Eagle.

After a tough period of rotation under Unai Emery, the wide attacker seems to be one of Quique Setien’s key players.

  • Yassine Bounou - Sevilla 2021-22

    Yassine Bounou

Bono is always busy in Sevilla's goal, so Sunday’s 2-1 win over Getafe was surprising, to say the least.

The Morocco goalkeeper made only one stop in the Andalusians’ victory, making it the second time this season in La Liga and the first time since the middle of September (a 1-1 draw with Villarreal) he had a sole save to make in a game.

If Sevilla’s inclination to concede shots is anything to go by, Sunday was an anomaly not the new normal.

  • Reinildo Mandava Atlético vs. Levante

    Reinildo Isnard Mandava

The other big game in La Liga saw Atletico Madrid lose 1-0 to Barcelona at the Cívitas Metropolitano to hand Diego Simeone’s team their fifth defeat in the competition.

It could have turned out differently but Mandava missed his chance to score his first league goal for the club after seeing his close-range header blocked just before half-time.

He is not paid to score but it was notably the first big chance missed by the Mozambique left-back since he signed for the club in January last year.

  • Victor Osimhen.

    Victor Osimhen

Wednesday night at Inter Milan was tough for Osimhen and his Napoli teammates but they returned to winning ways at Sampdoria, beating the hosts 2-0.

The Nigeria international latched onto Mario Rui’s cross to put the hosts in front in the 19th minute, taking him to 10 Serie A strikes in 2022-23.

Interestingly, every goal netted by Osimhen has been scored from inside the box.

Remarkably, all but one of the Nigerian’s league goals for the Partenopei have come in the 18-yard area, with his only goal from outside the penalty area the first one he netted for the club against Atalanta in October 2020.

  • Mohamed Salah.

    Mohamed Salah

Liverpool played out a disappointing 2-2 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday but the club’s talisman continued a striking FA Cup run.

Salah does not feature heavily in the early rounds of the competition for Liverpool but was selected from the off by Jurgen Klopp on Saturday.

The Egyptian netted to continue a run that has seen him score in both FA Cup third round games he has started for the Reds, following his strike in the 4-1 success over Aston Villa in 2020.

His third appearance at the same stage of the competition came off the bench in a 2-1 defeat at Wolverhampton in January 2019.
