Peter Shalulile, Mamelodi Sundowns, December 2021
Masandawana fought back to hold Stellies to a 1-1 draw in a PSL match at Danie Craven Stadium on Saturday night

GOAL rates the performances of the Masandawana players following a lively encounter.

  • Kennedy Mweene, Mamelodi Sundowns, May 2021

    Kennedy Mweene - 6/10

Merely spectator for much of the game.

Mweene was well-beaten by Junior Mendieta from the penalty spot-kick and he saw little action at his end after conceding as his defenders protected him very well.

  • Khuliso Mudau, Mamelodi Sundowns, November 2020

    Khuliso Mudau - 5/10

Given a hard time by the troublesome Ashley du Preez.

Stellies were awarded a penalty which was converted by Mendieta after he had fouled Du Preez and Mudau was substituted at half-time.

  • Lyle Lakay - 8/10

Solid defensively as he contained Dean van Rooyen.

Lakay's delivery from set-piece was brilliant and he is the one, who rescued a point for Downs with a fine strike in the second half.

  • Mosa Lebusa of Mamelodi Sundowns.

    Mosa Lebusa - 5/10

Struggled against Man of the Match Mendieta.

Lebusa looked shaky at times with Mendieta running at him, but he improved after the restart as he was able to make well-timed tackles to stop the Argentine attacker.

  • Grant Kekana, Mamelodi Sundowns, November 2021

    Grant Kekana - 7/10

Played better than his central defence partner Lebusa.

Kekana was fearless and adventurous as he pushed forward whenever he got the chance to do so which saw him force keeper Sage Stephens into a fine save and he was also solid in defence.

  • Rivaldo Coetzee, Mamelodi Sundowns, August 2021

    Rivaldo Coetzee - 5/10

Just not in his elements on his return to the starting line-up.

Coetzee's passes went awry as he failed to get control of the game with Ibraheem Jabaar outsmarting him in their midfield battle.

  • Andile Jali, Mamelodi Sundowns, September 2021

    Andile Jali - 7,5/10

With Coetzee under-performing, Jali was very good on the night.

Jali worked extremely hard in midfield winning balls in Downs' half and carrying the team forward, while also deserves credit for keeping Jabaar quiet after the restart.

  • Themba Zwane, Mamelodi Sundowns, October 2021

    Themba Zwane - 6/10

Stellies did a commendable job of keeping the dangerous playmaker at arm's length.

However, Zwane managed to create a few good chances but they came to nothing and he was substituted towards the end of the game.

  • Thabiso Kutumela, Mamelodi Sundowns, December 2021

    Thabiso Kutumela - 8/10

Downs' best attacker on the night.

Kutumela was a huge threat on the wings and he was unlucky to score when Stephens made a fantastic save to deny him, but he did grab an assist when Lakay scored after he had made a good run.

  • Peter Shalulile, Mamelodi Sundowns, November 2021

    Peter Shalulile - 5/10

Silenced by the impressive Zitha Kwinda.

The current PSL top scorer was well off the pace on the night, fizzling out a few attacks and failed to register a single shot on target.

  • Thapelo Morena of Mamelodi Sundowns, August 2019

    Thapelo Morena - 7/10

It was a good cameo from him off the bench at half-time as he created problems for Stellies with his blistering speed and he was involved in the build-up to Downs' goal.

  • Pavol Safranko, Mamelodi Sundowns, August 2021

    Pavol Safranko - 5/10

Came on in the 58th minute and he did not impact the game much as most of Downs' crosses were cleared away without reaching him in the hosts' box.

  • Aubrey Modiba, Mamelodi Sundowns, January 2021

    Aubrey Modiba - 5/10

Saw little of the ball after coming on in the 80th minute with Stellies looking to contain Downs in the closing stages of the game.

  • Kermit Erasmus, Mamelodi Sundowns, November 2020

    Kermit Erasmus - 6/10

Also introduced in the 80th minute and he looked dangerous from set-pieces as his well-taken free-kick narrowly missed the target.
