The first midweek round of fixtures of the Premier League season is upon us and we have selected the best bets from this week's games

Matchweek 4 of the 2022-23 Premier League season saw a return to normalcy, as all of last season’s top-six clubs took three points from their fixtures. Still, that didn’t preclude us from seeing some shocking scorelines.

Liverpool bounced back from defeat against rival Manchester United in a big way, thrashing Bournemouth 9-0 at Anfield. The result was the biggest Premier League win in the club’s history and matched the largest margin of victory in the modern EPL era.

Elsewhere, Raheem Sterling’s second-half brace helped Chelsea take all three points against Leicester City despite being reduced to 10 men inside the opening half hour after Conor Gallagher saw a pair of yellow cards in a seven-minute span.

Erling Haaland’s first Manchester City hat trick helped the champions overcome a two-goal deficit against Crystal Palace, while Arsenal also battled back against Fulham to continue their perfect start to the campaign.

What will we see in Matchweek 5? Let’s examine some of my favorite bets and predictions for the first round of midweek fixtures in the Premier League.

All odds and bets are provided courtesy of BetMGM Sportsbook as of Monday, Aug. 29 at 12 p.m. ET, unless otherwise noted.

Crystal Palace vs Brentford Best Bet

➕ Crystal Palace Moneyline (+105) at BetMGM Sportsbook

WAGER: 1 Unit

Matchweek 5 will feature a pair of London derbies, the first of which will see Crystal Palace host Brentford at Selhurst Park.

Both clubs are currently perched in the middle of the table, with the Bees sitting on five points after four games and the Eagles just a point behind.

However, it is hard to ignore how difficult Palace’s fixture list has been. Patrick Vieira’s squad has already hosted Arsenal and visited both Liverpool and Manchester City. Palace will be disappointed to have thrown away a two-goal lead against the champions over the weekend, but it was encouraging to see them 2-nil up at halftime to begin with.

Palace and Brentford played a pair of scoreless draws in their EPL meetings last season, but I think the hosts are the better side here. Back Palace at plus-money to pick up their second win of the season.

Leeds United vs Everton Best Bet

➕ Leeds Moneyline (+110) at BetMGM Sportsbook

WAGER: 1 Unit

Leeds United suffered their first defeat of the season last weekend at Brighton, but they still sit fifth in the Premier League table after an impressive start to the campaign. American manager Jesse Marsch has put his imprints on this team, which is starting to buy into his high-pressing system.

Leeds will host an Everton side that currently sits in the relegation zone, a position the Toffees have become much too familiar with over the last 12 months. Frank Lampard’s squad has taken just two points from the opening four games, although Anthony Gordon’s first-half strike was enough to earn a 1-1 draw over the weekend at Brentford.

Now, the issue for Lampard will be holding onto the England starlet as the 21-year-old is a target of his manager’s former club, Chelsea. Those headlines will persist through this final game before transfer deadline day, which could provide additional distractions to Everton, who also could be looking ahead to a Merseyside Derby against Liverpool at the weekend.

Either way, Leeds is the better managed club at the moment and should be able to take all three points at home on Tuesday.

Bournemouth vs Wolverhampton Best Bet

➕ Wolves Win and Over 1.5 Total Goals Scored (+160) at BetMGM Sportsbook

WAGER: 1 Unit

Two teams near the bottom of the Premier League table will meet on Wednesday when Wolves travel to the Vitality Stadium to take on Bournemouth.

The Cherries won their first match against Aston Villa in their return to the Premier League, but the welcome party didn’t last long.

Back-to-back defeats against Manchester City and Arsenal were expected, but the 9-0 drubbing at the hands of Liverpool over the weekend has killed their spirits. Manager Scott Parker was sacked on Tuesday with the side having the worst goal differential in the league (-14) by a 10-goal margin.

Wolves have only managed two goals in four games this season, which is why the odds are still so favorable, but Bruno Lage’s men have to be smelling the blood in the water. This team has quality, as Rúben Neves proved with his stunning strike against Newcastle, and I expect that to show through, even away from home.

West Ham vs Tottenham Best Bet

➕ West Ham Wins & Under 3.5 Total Goals (+375) at BetMGM Sportsbook

WAGER: 0.5 Units

Let’s wrap this up by taking a bit of a risk by backing West Ham at home against Tottenham.

The Hammers failed to score in their opening three matches — all losses — before picking up their first win of the season over the weekend at Aston Villa. Meanwhile, Spurs (3-1-0) defeated Nottingham Forest on Sunday to remain unbeaten after four games.

Despite their record, I don’t think we have seen the best version of Spurs just yet. Their performances haven’t been very impressive since the opening day and a visit to the London Stadium hasn’t proved easy in recent seasons.

West Ham have won their last two home matches against Spurs by 1-0 and 2-1 scorelines. Betting on a similar result at nearly 4-1 odds seems like it’s worth a small wager.
