Perhaps unfamiliar with such a rural environment, the Bundesliga giants hit trouble near the stadium of their latest DFB-Pokal opponents on Tuesday

The Bundesliga giants were travelling to face the third-division side in the DFB-Pokal at their 10,000-capacity Frimo Stadion when their progress was halted by the rural environment.

Lotte, just outside the city of Osnabruck and approximately 120 kilometres north of Dortmund, has a population of just over 14,000.

A tractor eventually arrived at the scene to pull the Dortmund bus out of trouble and allow Thomas Tuchel's team to complete their journey.

SF Lotte are by far the smallest team to have qualified for the cup's quarter-final stage have enjoyed a sensational run in this year's competition so far.

Having qualified as a regional representative of Westphalia, they have beaten two Bundesliga sides in Werder Bremen and Bayer Leverkusen, the latter via a penalty shootout.

To reach the last eight, they then recorded a 2-0 victory over 2. Bundesliga outfit 1860 Munich on home turf.

Their progress, in fact, has been more convincing than Dortmund's, with the three-time cup winners requiring spot kicks to progress through two rounds and narrowly avoiding embarrassment at the hands of second-tier club Union Berlin.
