Commentary

That's all from us, we hope you enjoyed the game. Until the next one, goodbye!
That late equaliser means Wolves are still waiting for their first win of the season. They're only four games in of course, but they were within touching distance of three points in this game, only being denied thanks to a moment of magic. Meanwhile, it's three draws in a row for Newcastle, who are still looking to find that cutting edge in the final third, which likely will see them turn one point into three more often than not.
It was a frustrating game for him at times, but Allan Saint-Maximin waited right until the very end to show exactly how valuable he is to this Newcastle side. Alongside that brilliant equaliser, he had five shots with three on target; produced 21 passes in the final third, creating one key chance; contested 14 duels, including via nine dribbles, and won the ball five times, including twice in the final third. He is undoubtedly the Magpies' star player, and record signing Alexander Isak will have to make some impact if he's to challenge for that crown.
Well, what a finish to one hell of a game! After being unlucky not to have scored in the first half, Newcastle finally got their goal 10 minutes from the end, with Saint-Maximin's cracker of a volley ensuring the points are shared at Molineux. Wolves were arguably the better team for much of the second half, but Newcastle had a glut of late chances, one of which was placed home superbly by their mercurial Frenchman. 10 minutes of injury time followed, but no more goals as it finishes 1-1; the hosts still waiting for that maiden win this season.
90' + 10' FULL-TIME: WOLVES 1-1 NEWCASTLE UNITED.
90' + 10' WIDE!!! It's Schar who takes the free-kick, but he pulls it wide of the goal and the final whistle is sounded!
M. Ritchie
A. Saint-Maximin
Newcastle United
90' + 9' Saint-Maximin has been limping slightly since scoring, and comes off now for Matt Ritchie for the Magpies.
L. Dendoncker
João Moutinho
Wolverhampton Wanderers
90' + 8' Moutinho comes off having been everywhere for Wolves in midfield, with Leander Dendoncker on to play out the last few moments.
90' + 8' CHANCE!!! Anderson does well to evade a challenge before being chopped down right on the edge of the box by Nunes, and Newcastle have a late chance to win this from the free-kick!
90' + 7' OFF THE BAR!!!! Targett's corner is swung in, and a flick off Collins gives Anderson a chance at the far post, but his header rattles back off the bar and out again!
90' + 6' Joelinton does well to cut out an attacking throughball from Moutinho and drives up the left-hand side of the pitch. He's brought down by Nunes on halfway though, and Newcastle gain a free-kick.
90' + 4' SAVED!!! Saint-Maximin is put in the clear as the Magpies counter with pace. He takes on Semedo and gets past him, before smashing a low shot that is parried by Sa!
90' + 4' OVER!!! After Jonny's cross into the box is headed half-clear, Neves picks it up, evades a challenge, and attempts to place a shot in the top corner, but can only send it over the crossbar!
90' + 3' In 2022, only Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham have won more Premier League points than Newcastle’s 43. Their 13 wins in 2022 is already their most since 15 in 2019 and five more than they managed in 2021, and they're absolutely desperate to make it 14 before full-time!
90' + 1' We're into EIGHT minutes of injury time, following that last-gasp equaliser. Hold onto your hats!
A. Saint-Maximin
Goal
Newcastle United
90' GOOOOOAAAAALLLLLLL!!!! What a way to equalise!!!!! Murphy is crowded out by two Wolves players, one of whom is Hwang. He hooks a clearance away, but it lands at the edge of the box, where Saint-Maximin arrives to hit a beautifully-struck volley, which flies straight into the bottom corner and locks us up at 1-1!!! What a goal, and what a time to get it!
90' Fraser's cross from the left is headed back to Joelinton, but his chested first touch allows Wolves to clear before he can shoot!
88' Moutinho's long ball forward looks for Jimenez on the run, but Pope races out of his box to clear it over the sideline and relieve the pressure on Botman.
86' Jimenez thinks he's been put into open space down the right, but the flag's up against him for offside as he attempts to lob Pope from distance.
E. Anderson
J. Willock
Newcastle United
84' Willock is also withdrawn for Newcastle, replaced by academy product Elliot Anderson.
Hwang Hee-Chan
Pedro Neto
Wolverhampton Wanderers
84' Neto has had a good game too, aside from that goal-costing foul, and is brought off for Hwang Hee-Chan.
J. Murphy
M. Almirón
Newcastle United
83' Almiron comes off having gone close a few times this half, with Eddie Howe hoping Jacob Murphy can prove the difference.
Daniel Podence
Gonçalo Guedes
Wolverhampton Wanderers
83' Guedes has impressed down both flanks for his side, and comes off now for Daniel Podence to see out the game.
82' No Goal!!! VAR has been called in to look at the contact between Neto and Fraser, and it's a clear foul on the Newcastle substitute, so the goal will not stand!
81' BALL IN THE NET!!!! Wolves counter at breakneck speed from the corner after Neto outmuscles Fraser. He races clear and crosses for Jimenez, who stabs it under Pope and into the net!!! The referee's not happy though, and we may need another look at this!
80' Saint-Maximin and Almiron link up again, with the latter getting a shot away under pressure and forcing a corner off a Semedo deflection!
80' SAVED!!! Wolves hit Newcastle on the break and Nunez strides forward. He has time and space on the edge of the box and fires a finish towards goal, but it's straight at Pope, who holds it!
79' Saint-Maximin looks to advance up the byline, but runs out of room before he can cross and the eventual effort is blocked and cleared!
78' Fraser floats a cross towards the back post, but a flick from Jonny takes the ball away from Almiron and behind for a corner.
76' BLOCKED!!! A loose ball finds Almiron on the edge of the box, and he lets fly with a half-volley, but Moutinho gets in the way to deflect it behind for a Newcastle corner!
74' A long ball from Longstaff looks for Almiron, but he's beaten to the ball by Jonny, and goes down under pressure on the edge of the box. The withdrawal of Wood hasn't looked a good move as of yet, with the Magpies increasingly toothless going forward.
72' Nunes is still down following that clash with Fraser, with the Wolves bench looking increasingly worried about the wellbeing of their record signing.
70' There's collisions aplenty in the box following the corner, with both Nunes and Fraser going down. However, it's clearly an accidental clash, with no chance of a foul being given either way.
69' Saint-Maximin takes on Jonny down the right, and looks to have beaten him, but the Wolves left-back slides in to put the ball behind for a Magpies corner.
67' Newcastle's lack of structure and quality in attack so far in this game shows that an upgrade in the striking department is needed, but luckily they've got new signing Alexander Isak watching on, who will no doubt soon be leading the line for the Magpies.
M. Targett
D. Burn
Newcastle United
65' Burn also comes off for the Magpies, replaced at left-back by the more conventional, and attacking, Matt Targett
R. Fraser
C. Wood
Newcastle United
65' Wood hasn't had many chances to test Sa in the Wolves goal, and comes off now for a different kind of attacking threat in Ryan Fraser.
63' Wolves are winless in the Premier League this season with just one point from three games so far. They’ve failed to win in their opening four league games just once in their previous 17 seasons, going six games winless at the start of the 2019-20 season, and as it stands, won't be repeating that record.
61' Semedo finds Jimenez in the box, who tries to turn Schar and shoot. His first touch impedes him though, albeit it's still enough to force Botman to put it behind for a corner.
59' SAVED!!! Neto receives a wide pass and drives into the box. He shoots low with his left foot, and it's a good effort that Pope does well to hold!
Pedro Neto
Yellow Card
Wolverhampton Wanderers
58' Neto does well to keep the ball in play, but Trippier steals it away from him. The Newcastle right-back is clipped late by Neto on his way though, with the Wolves winger subsequently booked.
56' Wood attempts to flick the ball beyond Jonny, but tugs him to ground on the way through and is penalised by the referee.
54' WIDE!!! After Almiron cuts inside and has a shot blocked, it comes back to Schar 25 yards from goal. He strikes the ball first-time, but his low, curling effort takes a nick off Kilman and goes wide!
53' CHANCE!!! Almiron races away down the left and flashes a cross towards the near post. Collins stick out a leg to block it, but nearly scores an own goal after his touch sends the ball into the side netting!
52' Willock is sandwiched between challenges from Moutinho and Nunes, gaining Newcastle a free-kick, whilst a prior collision between Joelinton and Neves leaves the Wolves captain on the ground as well!
50' With Neto finally back on his feet, Neves strides forward to take the free-kick. It's well hit, but hits Wood in the wall and bounces behind for a corner.
48' We're off for VAR for a second look at that challenge, with Neto still down on the ground. The check makes no difference though, and the card remains yellow for the Magpies defender.
F. Schär
Yellow Card
Newcastle United
46' Schar blasts a clearance against the back of Willock, and slides in to re-gain the ball. He catches Neto on the follow-through though, and is shown a yellow card for the nasty challenge.
46' The hosts get us back underway, via the boot of Moutinho!
We're back for the second half, and will Wolves be able to hold on, or even add to, their slender lead here?
Neves was everywhere for Wolves in that half, scoring the opener in fantastic fashion with his only shot, and also leading the way in terms of touches and passes for his side. Defensively, he's won the ball six times, also a high for his team, coming via two interceptions, a block and a clearance. Wolfish.
The first half ends, with the hosts a goal to the good thanks to that sumptuous finish from Neves! It was a brilliant strike that deserved a goal, with the hosts looking particularly dangerous on the counter every time they broke forward. Newcastle had more of the ball, and more of the chances, throughout the half though, and Eddie Howe will know that better composure and execution is needed if his players are to turn this game around.
45' + 2' HALF-TIME: WOLVES 1-0 NEWCASTLE UNITED.
45' + 2' Almiron looks to have shrugged off Jonny to win the ball, but he's penalised for a foul before he can cross into the area.
45' + 1' We'll play an additional minute of added time at the end of this first half.
45' A defensive header lands at the feet of Longstaff, who looks to tee up Saint-Maximin, but it's a poor final ball that leaves the Frenchman with too much to do. Wolves appear to have cleared the danger, but play is stopped by the referee to assess a head clash in the box.
43' SAVED!!! Saint-Maximin cuts inside two from the left and powers towards the box, before firing a low, dipping shot that Sa is able to hold at his near post!
42' Neves flies into a tackle on Almiron, leaving the Paraguayan on the ground and resulting in a free-kick to Newcastle.
40' No player has had more shots from outside the box in the Premier League this season than Neves’ seven, contributing to Wolves’ total of 24, a league-high. He’s also had the most efforts from outside the area since his debut (230), with that tally almost 200 more than the total touches in the opposition’s box he’s had (34).
Gonçalo Guedes
Assist
Wolverhampton Wanderers
38' The pass from Guedes wasn't a bad one, but Neves needed little other assistance to pick his spot there. He's a specialist at those kinds of shots, and what a shot it was!
Rúben Neves
Goal
Wolverhampton Wanderers
38' GOOOOOAAAAALLLLL!!!!! Super strike!!!! Guedes finds Neves on the edge of the box, and the Wolves captain then does what he does best, smashing a low shot through a sea of bodies, beyond Pope, and into the bottom corner!!! What a finish, and it's 1-0 to the home side!!!
38' Moutinho's free-kick into the box is missed altogether by Pope, but is headed down and cleared by Botman with his keeper isolated.
37' Newcastle United are unbeaten in their three Premier League games this season, last enjoying a four-match unbeaten start to a league season back in 2011-12, where they didn’t lose their opening 11 games before going on to finish fifth.
35' Sa climbs high to pluck Willock's cross out of the air, but clatters into Joelinton upon landing and play is halted!
33' Nunes sends Neto down the left with a chance to cross, and he blasts a low ball towards Jimenez, but it's put behind for a corner by Botman!
32' SAVED!!! Wolves counter down the right once more, and Semedo curls a cross into the danger area. Jimenez meets it on the half volley, but scuffs his effort and it's an easy one for Pope to hold!
30' Willock aims to turn and beat Guedes to a loose ball, but is held back by the Wolves winger and wins a free-kick in a good position for Trippier to cross in.
Nélson Semedo
Yellow Card
Wolverhampton Wanderers
28' Saint-Maximin cuts out Nunes' wide ball to Semedo, but before he can race away down the left, he's clipped from behind by the Wolves right-back, who is booked for the cynical foul.
26' WIDE!!! Jimenez shows his strength to outmuscle Trippier off the ball before crossing into the box. It's a peach of a ball for Nunes, but he can't direct his header on target and it flies wide!
25' Jimenez tees up Jonny to cross from the left, and his whipped-in ball deceives Pope before curling away from goal!
24' Newcastle have scored in all 14 of their Premier League games against Wolves, their best 100 per cent scoring rate in the competition. However, they’ve only kept one clean sheet in these games, which conveniently came in their 1-0 win in April last season.
22' Another second-phase attack for Newcastle, after a cross was headed away, comes in the form of Saint-Maximin, who cuts inside and wastes the chance by having another optimistic shot blocked!
21' Almiron cuts the ball back to Trippier, who crosses for Wood, but it's headed behind by Semedo for another Newcastle corner!
20' Saint-Maximin drives forward for the Magpies, beating challenge after challenge, but refuses to pass to teammates in better positions and his eventual shot is easily blocked!
19' Schar meets the corner at the far post and heads back across the face of goal, but Sa catches the ball under pressure to bring the Newcastle attack to an end.
18' Trippier's long, diagonal ball from deep almost finds Saint-Maximin on the fly, but Semedo is back there to put it behind unconvincingly, having looked like the Newcastle winger would get the better of him.
16' Wolves clear the corner and break at pace. They've got a two-on-one with Guedes and Neto against Longstaff, but the Magpies midfielder blocks the attempted pass that would've put Neto through on goal.
15' BLOCKED!!! Newcastle surge forward through Saint-Maximin, who passes centrally to Wood. He tees up Longstaff, whose weak effort takes a deflection and goes behind for a corner!
14' Wolves aim to attack again and almost create space to shoot, but are prevented from doing so by a sliding challenge from Burn. There's challenges flying in all over the place at the moment, and the fans are loving it!
12' WIDE!!! It's pinball in the Wolves box following a Newcastle throw, with several headers unable to clear the danger before Wood has a half-volley blocked. It falls to Willock in some space, who shoots too, but can only put his effort just wide of the post!
10' After a Saint-Maximin-led attack is broken up, Wolves counter at pace and Neto looks to find Jimenez at the back post, but is again thwarted by Pope who catches the cross.
8' Forward come Wolves again as Jonny plays in Neto down the byline. He cuts the ball back across goal, but it's too close to Pope, who gathers possession.
7' OVER!!!! Wonderful play from Wolves as Neves smashes a cross-field pass straight to Guedes on the half-volley. He hits a low across towards the centre of the box, where Neto arrives, and he looks to flick it over Pope but can only find the top of the net!
6' Semedo looks to get around the outside of Burn, but is brought to ground by the Magpies' left-back, giving the hosts a good crossing opportunity from this free-kick.
4' SAVED!!!! Joelinton looks to have lost the ball, but slides a brilliant pass forward for Wood to run onto. He aims to round Sa, but the Wolves keeper races out of his goal and blocks the shot behind for an early corner!
3' Wolves are without a win in their last 10 Premier League matches, the longest ongoing run amongst the 20 current sides in the competition. Indeed, it’s the Wanderers’ longest winless league streak since a run of 12 in the Championship in March 2013.
1' Willock kicks off for Newcastle, and we are off and running in the West Midlands!
The two sides enter the pitch, and we're almost ready for kick-off at Molineux!
Callum Wilson scored Newcastle’s second against Manchester City, but the England striker also picked up a knock, and so misses this game. Record signing and Sweden international Alexander Isak has not been included in the squad, so Chris Wood starts up top. The Magpies are also missing Bruno Guimaraes in midfield, with Sean Longstaff coming in to deputise for the Brazilian.
Raul Jimenez returns to Wolves’ starting XI to spearhead Bruno Lage’s side in attack, as does Nelson Semedo at right-back, whilst record signing Matheus Nunes makes his second consecutive start since arriving at Molineux.
NEWCASTLE UNITED SUBS: Karl Darlow, Paul Dummett, Jamaal Lascelles, Matt Ritchie, Matt Targett, Javier Manquillo, Ryan Fraser, Jacob Murphy, Elliot Anderson.
NEWCASTLE UNITED (4-3-3): Nick Pope, Kieran Trippier, Sven Botman, Fabian Schar, Dan Burn; Joe Willock, Sean Longstaff, Joelinton; Miguel Almiron, Chris Wood, Allan Saint-Maximin.
WOLVES SUBS: Matija Sarkic, Rayan Ait Nouri, Daniel Podence, Hwang Hee-Chan, Yerson Mosquera, Tote Gomes, Leander Dendoncker, Adama Traore, Chem Campbell.
WOLVES (4-3-3): Jose Sa; Nelson Semedo, Nathan Collins, Max Kilman, Jonny; Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho, Matheus Nunes; Pedro Neto, Raul Jimenez, Goncalo Guedes.
After a commanding victory over Nottingham Forest on the opening day, the Magpies have drawn their last two, most recently letting a two-goal lead slip against Manchester City to draw 3-3. They did come back from 1-0 down to go 3-1 up in just 25 minutes though, suggesting that Wolves’ rear-guard could be in for a tough game.
Winless Wolves need to get their season up and running eventually, but with just one point from three games so far, they couldn’t have picked a worse time to face an unbeaten Newcastle side.
Hello, and welcome to live coverage of this fixture in the Premier League, between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Newcastle United.
