Commentary

Thanks for joining the live text commentary of the match. Until next time, goodbye.
Both sides will do it all over again next Thursday when Roma travel to Seville to face Betis at Estadio Benito Villamarin.
Betis beat Roma in a European fixture in the Eternal City for the first time in 21 games. The Spanish outfit dominated the first half but it was Roma who took the lead thanks to a Dybala penalty - Betis soon responded, however, with a goal from Rodriguez to return the game to level terms. The Italian outfit improved in the second half but it was Betis who found the ultimate winner late in the evening - Henrique steering in a fabulous header from an accurate Rodri cross. They're very much in control of their group after that victory.
90' + 6' FULL-TIME: ROMA 1-2 REAL BETIS
N. Zaniolo

90' + 3' Zaniolo sees red for kicking out at a Betis player rather petulantly.
90' There will be four minutes of added time at the end of this second half.

Luiz Henrique
Goal
Real Betis

Rodri
Assist
Real Betis
88' Rodri produced a superb centre to find Henrique at the back post.
86' CHANCE! Spinazzola fizzes the ball across to Zalewski out the right side, who in turn crosses into Betis' box - but the Spanish side deal with the danger well.
85' Moreno has daylight on the left wing but his cross is of a surprisingly low quality and fails to cause Roma any problems.
G. Pezzella
Yellow Card
Real Betis
83' Pezzella is booked for bringing down Belotti.
82' The game has become a little stretched as we enter the final ten minutes - both sides are pushing for a winner without wanting to leave themselves exposed.
M. Camara
B. Cristante
Roma
80' Camara has replaced Cristante in Roma's midfield.
S. El Shaarawy
P. Dybala
Roma
80' El Shaarawy has replaced Dybala in Roma's attack.
78' Betis concede a cheap free-kick but it comes to nothing - Dybala sends his effort crashing into the wall.
Álex Moreno
Juan Miranda
Real Betis
75' Lopera has replaced Miranda at left-back.
Borja Iglesias
Willian José
Real Betis
75' Iglesias has come on for Jose as the central striker.
William Carvalho
A. Guardado
Real Betis
75' Carvalho has replaced Guardado in the centre of midfield.
73' Spinazzola turns Ruibal well to come inside off the left wing but his cross-cum-shot is easily dealt with by Bravo.
A. Belotti
T. Abraham
Roma
72' Roma have made an attacking change - Belotti has replaced Abraham.
G. Mancini
Yellow Card
Roma
71' Mancini is booked in the aftermath of a dispute between several Roma players and Rodri over a ball that wasn't put out of play.

68' Dybala and Abraham link up well to win a corner - only for the set-piece to come to nothing after smart defending from Betis.
65' Guardado is down for treatmant after taking a blow to the body from Abraham.
63' Betis try to build up patiently but they're not finding the same gaps as they were in the first half. The move ends with a wasteful shot from distance.
60' Joaquin shared a warm hug with Jose Mourinho upon his withdrawal.
Rodri
Joaquín
Real Betis
60' Rodri has come on for Joaquin - a man close to twice his age.
58' Canales shows great feet to turn his man and carry the ball deep into Roma's half - only for his pass inside to be cut out by Matic.
55' Abraham plays the ball out left for Spinazzola, who takes on and beats his man but allows the ball to run out of play.
53' Abraham seems to be dropping deeper and becoming more involved in the build-up play and therefore giving Roma more options in the final third.
51' CHANCE! Roma come close. Smalling heads down a corner from the right side and, while Abraham is unable to land his overhead kick, Cristante does. But Bravo is equal to his effort and makes a superb save to keep the score level.
50' Roma have already shown that they're going to approach this second half differently to the first - they're playing with renewed purpose.
48' Henrique fizzes in a ball from the right wing that's neither a cross nor a shot - and it flies harmlessly wide.
46' We're back underway here at Stadio Olimpico.
Betis are seeing the lion's share of possession and part of that is down to how Roma have decided to set up. But the Italian outfit will be worried at the ease in which Betis are probing their defence and finding spaces in their final third. Roma still retain a threat on the break, of course, but Betis have had the better of this encounter quite clearly.
All square at the break and it's fair to say that Roma will be pleased to be level at the interval. Betis have dominated this game from the first whistle even though it was Roma who broke the deadlock through Dybala's penalty. Rodriguez equalised soon after with a rasping finish from outside the box and it was the Spaniards who finished the half the stronger.
45' + 4' HALF-TIME: ROMA 1-1 REAL BETIS
45' There will be four minutes of added time at the end of this first half.
45' CHANCE! Roma come close twice. Dybala draws an incredible save from Bravo with a rasping half-volley and, just before that, Zaniolo strikes the crossbar.
43' Betis responded superbly to going a goal down. They didn't panic and continued to play their game at their own pace - and got their reward.
Luiz Henrique
Assist
Real Betis
40' Henrique carried the ball inside off the right before playing the pass to Rodriguez.
G. Rodríguez
Goal
Real Betis
40' GOAL! Betis make it 1-1. The Spanish side move the ball well in the final third before Rodriguez unleashes a superbly-struck effort from the edge of the box that leaves Patricio with no chance. An incredible strike from the Argentine.
37' CHANCE! Henrique is fed the ball on the right wing by Rodriguez, with the Brazilian stepping inside on his left foot and shooting on goal. His effort, however, is easily saved.
37' Betis try to clap back after going a goal down but their passage of play comes to nothing.
P. Dybala
Penalty Goal
Roma
34' GOAL! Dybala sends Bravo the wrong way from the spot and tucks his effort into the left side of the goal. A confident penalty to make it 1-0 to Roma.
A. Guardado
Yellow Card
Real Betis
33' Guardado has been booked for protesting the referee's decision to give a penalty.
33' Roma have been awarded a penalty kick after a VAR review. The ball struck Ruibal's hand in the box.
C. Bravo
Yellow Card
Real Betis
32' Bravo has been booked for protesting a VAR review.
Luiz Felipe
Yellow Card
Real Betis
29' Luiz Felipe is booked for a strong challenge on Zalewski.
28' The onus will be on Canales to step up and operate as Betis' chief creator in the absence of Fekir - so far he's been at the centre of everything. His shot from distance just there, however, fails to work the goalkeeper and flashes well wide of the target.
25' There seems to be a splendid atmosphere at Stadio Olimpico. Both Roma and Betis are well-supported in the Italian city.
Luiz Henrique
N. Fekir
Real Betis
22' Fekir's night is over through injury. Henrique has replaced the Frenchman.
21' Dybala arcs a delicate ball into the box from a well-placed free-kick but it's easily dealt with by Betis. The ball then falls to Zaniolo, who blazes his effort over the crossbar.
19' A smart one-two between Ruibal and Joaquin ends with the former squaring the ball into the box - only for Smalling to head clear the danger.
18' The game seems to be settling into a bit of a pattern now. Betis are seeing the majority of the ball but Roma retain a threat on the break.
15' Dybala finds Spinazzola out the left flank with a beautiful outside-of-the-foot pass - but the Italian wing-back's cross comes to nothing.
13' CHANCE! Fekir rattles the near post with a well-taken left-footed strike from the edge of the box. A warning shot from the Spanish side.
12' Ibanez charges forward from centre-back before being felled at the edge of Betis' box - but again the referee decides against blowing up for a foul.
10' Guardado carries the ball from deep before playing a speculative ball into the box - but Smalling is able to get a head on it and Patricio then claims it comfortably.
8' After a slow start Betis have settled and it's Canales who registers their first effort on goal. The Cantabrian's left-footed strike draws a strong save from Patricio.
L. Spinazzola
Z. Çelik
Roma
5' Celik picks up an early knock and is replaced by Spinazzola.
3' Zaniolo carries the ball forward with intent for Roma only to blocked off by Pezzella - but the referee doesn't blow for a foul and play continues.
1' Roma begin as they mean to proceed - they attack right from the off but Zalewski's shot from distance flies over the crossbar.
1' We're underway here at Stadio Olimpico.
