Argentina face the biggest two matches of their World Cup qualifying campaign in the next few days, starting with hosting Peru on Thursday night.

La Albiceleste have had a fairly torrid group stage so far, winning just six of their 16 games to sit in fifth spot – although they are only three points away from second place.

Peru, meanwhile, currently occupy fourth – above Argentina by virtue of goals scored – in what has been a bizarre group stage that only Brazil have managed to qualify from so far.

That being said, the hosts are heavy favourites and can be backed at 2/9 (1.22) with dabblebet to grab a massive three points, whilst the visitors are priced at 11/1 (12.0).

The last time these sides met, it finished in a 2-2 draw after Peru came from behind twice to snatch a point, and another stalemate is quoted at 5/1 (6.0).

Argentina coach Jorge Sampaoli has already said he will not be playing both Lionel Messi and Paulo Dybala together, despite the fact the pair have netted 26 times between them for their respective clubs this season.

This comes a surprise as the hosts have been rather goal-shy this campaign – scoring just 16 times – and have failed to find the net in six games so far.

Matches involving Peru have seen a whopping 51 goals fly in though, with La Blanquirroja registering 26 times and conceding 25, meaning it is unlikely they will keep their second clean sheet of the campaign.

Although over 2.5 goals can be backed in at odds of just 1/2 (1.50), both teams to score at 21/20 (2.05) is a more enticing bet, and one that has landed in 10 of Peru’s 16 matches so far.
