Exactly how much money have Leipzig spent on new players in this millennium?

RasenBallsport Leipzig, aka Leipzig, came into existence in 2009 and since then rose through the lower divisions in the German leagues to reach the Bundesliga in 2016.

They finished as runners-up in the 2016-17 season, thus qualifying for the Champions League for the first time in their history and in the 2019-20 season, they reached the semi-final of the tournament.

Over the years, the German giants have spent a significant amount of money on some great young talent. Timo Werner was a breakout star for them, as well as Naby Keita, Dani Olmo and many others.

    Leipzig signed Kevin Kampl in the summer transfer window of 2017, paying €20 million for his signature from Bayer Leverkusen.

    Kampl previously featured for Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund before signing for Leverkusen in 2015.

    The Slovenia international signed a four-year contract in 2017 and has since then gone on to make over 180 appearances for Leipzig.

    One year later, he was loaned to Gent in January 2019 before being loaned to Trabzonspor in August 2019.

    In September 2020, Leipzig came calling, signing him for €20m.

    However, after just one season in Germany, in August 2021, he was loaned to Real Sociedad for two seasons.

    Werner spent two seasons at Chelsea, making 56 appearances, scoring 10 goals in what was an underwhelming spell considering what was expected of him before this transfer.

    The German made a decent start to his second spell at Leipzig and seamlessly settled into their team.

    Szoboszlai has made 40 appearances for Leipzig, scoring seven goals.

    Making his name in this list for a second time, Leipzig signed Timo Werner as a 20-year-old from Stuttgart back in June 2016.

    The German club paid a €23 million fee for the striker who went on to become one of the most prolific forwards in Europe.

    In his four-year first spell at Leipzig, Werner made 127 appearances, scoring 78 goals before Chelsea signed him for a €53m fee in 2020.

    Portuguese striker Andre Silva began his career at senior level at Porto in 2016 before moving to Milan in 2017 for a €38 million fee.

    The forward could only make 25 appearances for Milan while spending the majority of his time on loans to Sevilla and Eintracht Frankfurt.

    The German club decided to sign him for just €3m in the summer of 2020. Silva shone at Frankfurt, scoring 28 goals in 32 games in the 2020-21 season.

    A year later, Leipzig came calling, signing him for €23m.

    Slovenia international Benjamin Sesko joined Salzburg at youth level in 2019 and was promoted to the senior team in the same year.

    Since making his debut for the senior team, Sesko has scored nine goals in 38 games for Salzburg to date.

    His performances saw him linked with some of the top clubs across Europe.

    Leipzig took advantage of the Slovenian forward's rise at Salzburg, announcing in August 2022 that he will arrive at Leipzig in July 2023 for a €24 million fee.

    The German international signed a five-year deal with the club.

    Leipzig saw his potential and signed him for €29 million in January 2020 and Olmo has gone on to make over 60 appearances for the club.

    In his two years spent at Leipzig between 2016 to 2018, Keita played 58 games, scoring 14 goals and coming up with some incredible performances in central midfield, leading to some top European clubs vying for his signature.

    Liverpool won the race and signed him for a €60m fee in the summer of 2018.
