<p>Barca have been keen on the versatile 29-year-old for some time, with those in Catalunya claiming to have been <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/did-man-city-block-joao-cancelo-transfer-barcelona-pep-guardiola-xavi-misinformed/blt2cbb70bd6557893d" target="_blank">prevented from pushing through a transfer in January</a>. At that point, Cancelo linked up with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.</p>

<p>The German champions opted against completing a permanent deal, meaning that Cancelo returned to the Etihad Stadium.
