Liverpool ready to rival Man City in Nayef Aguerd transfer race as Jurgen Klopp plans defensive rebuild at Anfield in 2024

<p>Jurgen Klopp is <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/liverpool-new-centre-back-transfer-options-running-out/bltff7ef556b180244b " target="_blank">aware of the need to bolster his defensive unit in 2024</a>, with established centre-halves Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip both now 32 years of age. Joe Gomez is only 26, but has struggled to prove his worth, while 24-year-old France international Ibrahima Konate has picked up a number of injuries.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/23891899/liverpool-transfer-news-klopp-west-ham-manchester-city/ " target="_blank"><em>The Sun</em></a> claims that Liverpool are turning their sights towards Hammers star Aguerd. The Morocco international <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/west-ham-united-most-expensive-signings-incoming-transfers/blt487c9c8cfab3c200" target="_blank">moved to England for £30 million ($38m) in the summer of 2022</a> and caught the eye when making 33 appearances and helping West Ham to Europa Conference League glory.</p>

THE BIGGER PICTURE

<p>Liverpool are said to have had their scouting team cast an eye over Aguerd, with a desire on their part to reinforce an important area of their squad. The 27-year-old would be able to slot seamlessly into the Reds' ranks as he already boasts plenty of Premier League experience.</p>
