GOAL highlights the outstanding moments from the continent's stars in Europe

There was a partial resumption of football in Europe over the weekend with observers witnessing the opening weekends in England and France.

Indeed, it was pleasing to see Mohamed Salah back in competitive action after a two-month hiatus while Sadio Mane’s debut for Bayern Munich did not fail to catch the eye.

In this feature, GOAL's Seye Omidiora picks out some of the under-the-radar stats you may have missed this week - and explains what they mean for Africa's biggest stars.

Angers FC and Nantes played out a goalless encounter in their clash at Stade Raymond Kopa, with both goalkeepers — Paul Bernardoni and Alban Lafont — making a plethora of saves.

Simon interestingly fashioned no less than five chances on the day, with four coming from open play and one from a fifth-minute corner.

No player created as many chances as the Nigeria international on the day and, perhaps, on another day could have registered an assist.

Bayern Munich blew last year’s Europa League winners Eintracht Frankfurt to smithereens and Mane got in on the act in the eventual 6-1 win.

Having said that, the Senegal superstar missed three clear-cut chances, more than any player on both sides managed altogether (two).

It was still a Bundesliga debut goal for the erstwhile Liverpool man whose misses did not prove costly for the Bavarians.

Salah is off the mark for the season, scoring the leveller as Liverpool played out a 2-2 draw with newly-promoted Fulham on Saturday.

The Egyptian’s goal took him level with Premier League greats like Alan Shearer, Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard for most goals scored in gameweek one (eight goals).

The Egyptian has also found the back of the net in every opening league game since signing for the Reds, extending his streak to six with the late equaliser at Craven Cottage.

Will the Liverpool marksman battle for another Golden Boot this season?

    Achraf Hakimi

Paris Saint-Germain annihilated Clermont Foot 5-0 in their Ligue 1 opener with Hakimi scoring one of the away side’s goals in the comfortable win.

Interestingly, the right wing-back also netted in the Parisians’ first game of the preceding campaign, scoring in a 2-1 win at Troyes.

Having looked to benefit from Christophe Galtier’s switch to a back three early doors, the ex-Inter Milan man will target his individual best 15 goal contributions in year two in France.

Lorient secured a 1-0 success on day one by defeating Stade Rennes 1-0 away from home.

However, Moffi did not record any attempt before his 84th-minute withdrawal at Roazhon Park.

Thus, the Nigerian's four-match streak of shooting at goal at least once in the French top flight has been halted.

Leicester City’s anchorman returned to the Foxes’ XI for their Premier League opening fixture against Brentford.

Ndidi played the entirety of the game, featuring for 90 minutes for the first time in the league since March.

Indeed, Brendan Rodgers will hope the former Genk man stays fit this term after the recent worries with injuries in recent campaigns.
