Commentary

That's all from us today folks, we hope you enjoyed the game!
The result doesn't change the Bundesliga table for Bayern at the top, but Mainz move up to ninth and next up for them is a trip to Hertha Berlin. Meanwhile Bayern face Stuttgart at the Allianz Arena.
Mainz surprise the champions as they run out 3-1 winners, but they should have won by a bigger margin, after an excellent performance. Early goals from Burkhardt and Barreiro sent them 2-0 ahead, before Lewandowski pulled one back before the break. Bayern started the second half well, with Lewandowski superbly denied by Hack in the six-yard box, before the hosts caught Bayern out on the counter and Barreiro’s deflected effort extended their lead. They had numerous chances to score a few more, with Onisiwo striking the bar and Burkhardt also going close, but ultimately they did enough to wrap up the victory over a subpar Bayern.

N. Süle
Bayern München
79' Another Bayern change here, with Sule off and on comes Stanisic.
77' CLOSE! Widmer does well down the right wing and sends a ball into the box looking for Onisiwo, who is unmarked and he should find the back of the net. However, he sends his shot just wide of the post.
75' Still no sign of any changes coming from the hosts, who remain in control of the game and look very comfortable. They should have a bigger lead.
B. Pavard
Yellow Card
Bayern München
73' Another booking now, this time it is shown to Pavard after he dives into a challenge and gets nowhere near the ball.
71' OFF THE BAR! What a strike by Onisiwo! The striker is allowed far too much time and space on the edge of the box and he powers an effort towards goal, which beats Ulreich, but cannons against the crossbar. So unlucky.
69' Burkardt has now been involved directly in goals in his last four Bundesliga games against Bayern (3 goals ,1 assist) - among all current Bundesliga players, no other player currently has such a long run of games with goal involvements against Munich.
G. Vidović

T. Nianzou

Bayern München

63' As it stands, this victory for Mainz would move them up to ninth in the table with just two games left to play.
61' CHANCE! Mainz almost make it four! Another quick counter by the hosts and Bayern are all over the place at the back. There is a dummy in the box and the ball falls perfectly to Burkhardt at the far post, who only has Ulreich to beat. However, he drags his shot wide of the bottom left post!
59' Bayern now have a two-goal deficit to overcome, but Mainz look like scoring every time they push forward on the counter. The visitors have been very shaky at the back today.
S. Widmer
Assist
Mainz 05
57' Widmer showed his strength to hold off the challenge of Davies, who should do better, but the winger did well and set it up nicely for Barreiro.
L. Barreiro
Goal
Mainz 05
57' GOOOAAALLL! MAINZ MAKE IT 3-1! The hosts counter quickly and catch Bayern out at the back, with Stach flicking the ball to Widmer, who turns Davies and then lays it off to Barreiro on the edge of the box. The shot from Barreiro takes a big deflection off Pavard, but this sends it past Ulreich, onto the bar and into the back of the net.
55' Mainz have everyone back behind the ball at the moment, soaking up the Bayern pressure, but Zentner is still yet to have a save to make in goal.
53' Bayern are pushing higher up the pitch in this second half, they are trying to create more in the final third, but Mainz are defending very well at the back.
51' Bayern have now scored 93 goals in this season's Bundesliga - equalling their own record after 31 games (set in 2019-20). Lewandowski's goal has also equalled their own Bundesliga record for most away goals in a season (47).
49' CHANCE! Gnabry sneaks in behind the Mainz defence after a good ball from Kimmich and Gnabry is then through on goal and tries to square it across to Lewandowski. However, Hack does brilliantly to get in front of the striker and makes a great block to stop a certain goal.
48' Bayern will have to start this second period a lot better than they did in the opening half if they are to get back into this one. The changes will hopefully see some improvement.
46' The second half is under way!

J. Musiala
M. Sabitzer
Bayern München
46' Bayern have made a double substitution ahead of the second half, with Sabitzer one of those coming off and on comes Musiala.
Bayern are yet to get going here, they have already secured the title and look like a side that don't have any left to play for. Nagelsmann won't be a happy man and there could be a few changes at the break for the visitors, in order to get back into this one.
Bayern haven't been at it today and Mainz deservedly lead 2-1 at the break, but they should be further ahead after a number of great opportunities. Burkardt fired the hosts ahead early on, before Niakhate doubled their lead from close range. However, Lewandowski showed his skill to pull one back shortly after the half an hour mark. Barreiro and Burkardt have had further chances to score, but just couldn't quite turn the ball into the back of the net.
45' + 2' HALF-TIME: MAINZ 2-1 BAYERN
45' + 1' Sule makes a vital clearance, but almost sends the ball into the back of his own net in the process, after a curling Mainz effort looks to be flying in.
45' There will be a minimum of one minute added time played at the end of the first half.
45' Decent chance! Ulreich is called into action to deny Barreiro, after he found time and space in the box and tried to beat the keeper from a tight angle.
J. Kimmich
Yellow Card
Bayern München
43' The first yellow card of the game is shown to Kimmich for a blatant shirt pull to prevent a Mainz counter.
42' CLOSE! What a strike by Barreiro! Bayern fall to clear a free-kick into the box and the ball falls nicely to Barreiro on the edge of the box, who tries to curl it into the top left corner of the net. However, it flies inches past the post.
41' Mainz will be hoping that these missed opportunities won't come back to haunt them later on. As we know that Bayern are a side that can punish you.
39' Widmer almost gets on the end of an excellent cross into the box from the left, but it's slightly to high for him and his header flies well off target.
37' Decent chance! Onisiwo turns quickly on the edge of the box and then fires an effort towards goal after getting away from Sule, but his shot flies wide of the Bayern goal.
35' The Bayern goal could make this game very interesting now, can they score an equaliser before the half-time whistle?
E. Choupo-Moting
Assist
Bayern München
33' Choupo-Moting showed great awareness to send the ball to his team-mate, when he could have taken the shot at goal, but from a tight angle on the edge of the box.
R. Lewandowski
Goal
Bayern München
33' GOOOAAALLL! LEWANDOWSKI MAKES IT 2-1! Lovely move by Bayern on the edge of the penalty area, as Sabitzer flicks it to Choupo-Moting, who could go for goal himself. However, he opts to pass to Lewandowski and he turns and fires the ball into the bottom right corner of the net.
32' Bayern are looking to increase the intensity of their play now, but they aren't creating much in the final third, with Zentner yet to have a save to make.
30' CLOSE! Choupo-Moting gets his head to a free-kick and glances it towards the top right corner of the net, but it flies inches wide of the post! Zentner could only stand and watch that fly past him.
29' As we approach the half an hour mark here, it's Mainz who lead the champions 2-0, after goals from Burkardt and Niakhate. Bayern looked shocked at the scoreline.
A. Stach
Assist
Mainz 05
27' Stach got away from his marker at the near post, getting the slightest of touches on the ball to send it into the path of Niakhate, who made no mistakes with the finish.
M. Niakhate
Goal
Mainz 05
27' GOOOAAALLL! MAINZ DOUBLE THEIR LEAD! It comes from another set piece, as a free-kick is whipped into the box from the right, flicked on at the near post by Stach and then met at the back post by Niakhate and he has a simple tap-in from close range. He simply couldn’t miss and he makes it 2-0!
26' Another set piece here for Mainz, after Davies fouls Widmer deep down the right wing and it's another opportunity for the hosts to get the ball into the box and create a chance.
24' Bayern have recently won five Bundesliga games in a row, the last time they had won more was from February to September 2020 (14). With 24 victories, they have as many as in the whole of last season.
22' It's quite unusual for Bayern to only be involved in the league at this stage of the season, normally they are battling in the Champions League or a domestic trophy, but it'll only be the one title for them this campaign.
20' Bayern have been very poor in the opening 20 minutes, Nagelsmann will not be happy with what he has seen from his side. Mainz look dangerous and could easily score a second to make the scoreline more comfortable.
D. Kohr
Assist
Mainz 05
18' Kohr gets himself in the right place, at the right time to intercept the clearance from Ulreich and he heads it straight into the path of Burkhardt, who provides the finish.
J. Burkardt
Goal
Mainz 05
18' GOOOAAALLL! MAINZ TAKE THE LEAD! The hosts deserve their lead after a superb opening period of the game. It comes from a mistake by Ulreich at the back, his pass out is poor and is easily picked up by Kohr, who heads it to Burkardt and he then fires the ball past the keeper and into the back of the net. It’s 1-0!
17' CHANCE! Huge opportunity for Mainz! It comes from a corner, which Hack meets and he heads the ball back across goal and it falls to Onisiwo, who tries to beat Ulreich from close range. However, the keeper makes himself as big as possible and makes a great save to deny him.
16' ALMOST! Gnabry nearly latches onto a long ball over the top of the Mainz defence and he tries to flick it past Zentner, but the keeper gets to it in the nick of time and makes the clearance.
14' The away supporters are making a huge amount of noise in their section of the ground at the moment, despite already clinching the league title, they still want to see a win here.
12' Bayern are having to sit deep and soak up the Mainz pressure at the moment, they can't get out of their own half and it's very good stuff from the hosts. They need to make all this possession count.
10' Mainz have always scored the first goal in their last three Bundesliga matches against Bayern (W1 L2) – no other team among the current Bundesliga sides has achieved this. Mainz have never managed this in four consecutive league meetings with Bayern.
8' Despite a few changes to the Bayern side, they have still fielded a very strong team, considering they've already wrapped up the title. Lewandowski is captain today in the absence of Neuer.
6' This is better from the visitors, they are starting to control possession in midfield and look to have weathered the early pressure from Mainz.
4' Mainz have started the game well, they are pushing forward in search of an early goal to try and put Bayern on the backfoot. Bayern are yet to get going.
2' OFF THE POST! Mainz with an early chance to take the lead within the opening couples of minutes! A loose ball falls to Burkardt in the six-yard box and he fires a shot at goal, which cannons off the post and then onto the crossbar from a tight angle. So close.
1' We're under way!
The teams are out on the pitch and kick-off is just a few minutes away, stay tuned for all the match action!
Julian Nagelsmann has also made four changes to his team, with Neuer dropping to the bench and Dayot Upamecano, Thomas Muller and Kingsley Coman aren’t involved at all in the squad. They have been replaced by Ulreich, Sule, Sabitzer and Choupo-Moting coming into the side.
The hosts have made four changes to their starting line-up, with Tauer, Boetius, Lucoqui and Igvartsen all dropping out and they have been replaced by Hack, Kohr, Caricol and Onisiwo.
BAYERN SUBS: Manuel Neuer; Omar Richards, Leroy Sane, Marc Roca, Tanguy Nianzou, Corentin Tolisso, Gabriel Vidovic, Jamal Musiala, Josip Stanisic.
BAYERN (4-2-3-1): Sven Ulreich; Benjamin Pavard, Niklas Sule, Lucas Hernandez, Alphonso Davies; Leon Goretzka, Joshua Kimmich; Marcel Sabitzer, Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting, Serge Gnabry, Robert Lewandowski.

Bayern clinched their 10th successive Bundesliga title last weekend with a 3-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund and made it five wins on the bounce in the league. They face a mid-table Mainz side who are currently 10th, aiming to beat last season’s 12th placed finish.
