Another Premier League outing and another devastating showing from Erling Haaland, who bagged a hat-trick on Saturday as Manchester City dispatched Wolves 3-0.
The Norway superstar—enjoying his first season in the Premier League—has now scored 22 league goals already this term, eclipsing the Golden Boot-winning returns of Mohamed Salah and Son Heung-min last season.
Haaland’s latest goalscoring feats have not gone unnoticed, with supporters struggling to come up with new superlatives to celebrate the lethal City frontman.
User Solex reckons that Haaland’s goal return at the season’s end is going to be so humungous, the Premier League need to change one of their most established awards.
“Think they must change it to be a platinum boot for Haaland come the end of the season,” he tweeted at his @solex_69 handle.
Whatever they’re going to call it, Haaland needs to receive the award already, according to some users.
“The race was over in August already,” tweeted @Budulvile, “they should just give Haaland his Golden Boot.”
Photographer Bazi Sindane is impressed with what he’s seen.
“Haaland is built different man,” he wrote, “he’s just a goalscoring machine.
“Always has the fewest touches of the ball in a match yet he’s leading in goals.”
“Erling Haaland is an actual cheat code,” tweeted Botswana user @Edward_G8, clearly enthralled by what he’s seeing from the Norway striker this term.
Haaland may be a sure-fire route to goals, but he hasn’t been able—for now—to overhaul Arsenal in the Premier League title race.
William Diamond, keen to put Haaland’s performance in context, has pointed out where the attacker stands in relation to some of the Premier League’s greatest forwards.
“Haaland has now scored more Premier League hat-tricks than Cristiano Ronaldo (3) and as many as Mohamed Salah (4),” he wrote on his @officialwillyzw handle. “18. GAMES. PLAYED.”
Some users expect more records to be in sight for the striker.
“If Haaland doesn’t break Salah’s record at this point,” wrote @OzymandiaaA, “it will be a massive bottle job.”
Next up for Manchester City, they face their Premier League title rivals Arsenal, albeit in the FA Cup.
Some supporters are already looking forward to that game…and what they’re expecting from Haaland.
“Haaland hat-trick against Arsenal is truly what we need as City fans,” wrote @ZiphozethuB.
