Commentary

That's all from us, we'll see you in the knockout stages! Until the next game, goodbye!
A 5-1 victory sees Real finish the group stage in comfortable fashion, winning Group F by a point despite Leipzig's win over Shakhtar. They'll be the only representatives from La Liga in the Champions League knockout stages, with Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Sevilla all having crashed out. Celtic weren't advancing to any stage of any competition, and finish rock-bottom of the group, with their two points a better return than only Viktoria Plzen and Glasgow rivals Rangers.
There wasn't one stand-out player for Real, with the vast majority of their front six proving to be near-unstoppable, and Asensio was especially sublime on the right flank. He scored Real's third, and managed two shots on target from five attempts. He also played five key passes, attempted six crosses, and won all his duels, as well as winning the ball four times, via three interceptions. Ascending.
The full-time whistle goes, sealing Real Madrid's passage into the next round as winners of Group F! Any Celtic resistance following a defiant first-half performance soon gave way to the dominance of Los Blancos, who really turned on the style in that second half. Asensio, Vinicius and Valverde all finished off flourishing attacking moves within 10 minutes of each other, taking the game far beyond Celtic's limited reach. Jota did pull one back with a sublime free-kick, but that silver lining won't hide the fact that Celtic were truly outclassed in this one, and crash out of Europe with their tails between their legs. Real do quite the opposite though, as the reigning European champions march onto the next stage, in full confidence of repeating last season's triumph.
90' + 1' FULL-TIME: REAL MADRID 5-1 CELTIC.
90' We'll play a minute of added time to end this game, with Real just moments away from a resounding victory.
89' OVER!!! Following that chance, Celtic can't clear the ball well at all and back come Real. Asensio latches onto the ball in the box, before sending a close-range shot over the crossbar!
89' BLOCKED!!! Valverde plays a wide pass to Ceballos, who cuts it back to Benzema. He blasts a left-footed effort goalwards, but Starfelt's back gets in the way of it!
88' Celtic break forward after a Madrid chance and it's spread wide to Jota again. He cuts onto his right foot once more and shoots low towards the far corner, but Courtois isn't beaten this time and stops the shot in the same spot he conceded from the free-kick.
86' That Jota free-kick is only Celtic's fourth goal of this European campaign. It's his second, meaning he's scored half their goals in the Champions League this season. Giakoumakis got the other in their last game against Shakhtar, while their other goal was scored by a Shakhtar Donetsk player, with Artem Bodnarenko putting the ball into his own net in their 1-1 home draw with Celtic.
Jota
Goal
84' GOOOOOAAAALLL!!! Sensational strike to pull one back for Celtic!!! Vazquez fouls Jota right on the edge of Los Blancos' box, and the Celtic substitute steps up to take the resultant free-kick. It's a fantastic effort too, curling over the wall and catching out Courtois, beating the goalkeeper as the ball rifles into the top corner!! It only makes the score 5-1, but that's still something for the travelling fans to get excited about!
O. Abildgaard
R. Hatate
82' Hatate comes off in another change for the Hoops, and Oliver Abildgaard will see out the last few minutes of their European campaign.
80' SAVED!!! Celtic break and a cross-field pass finds Jota. He cuts inside and shoots off his right foot, but Courtois is able to get down and make the save!
78' Vallejo concedes a corner which is punched half-clear by Courtois, and his outfield teammates spring forward on the counter! Valverde plays it across the face of goal, but Jenz gets in the way to clear it for the visitors.
76' Jota beats Vazquez around the outside and crosses into the area but it's far too close to Courtois who gathers with ease.
74' BLOCKED!! Forward come Real, looking for a sixth as Valverde feeds Asensio. He cuts inside and fires a shot with his left foot, but Starfelt gets in the way to block it for Celtic!
Vallejo
Éder Militão
73' Militao's next off for Real, and their centre-back substitutions continue with the introduction of Jesus Vallejo.
Lucas Vázquez
Assist
71' Vazquez's run started that move, and after playing a one-two with Asensio, played the pass for Valverde to finish it.
F. Valverde
Goal
71' GOOOOAAAALLL!!! There's the fifth!!! Vazquez sets off on the counter, and eventually cuts the ball across to the edge of the box. Valverde arrives onto it, and side-foots a perfect shot beyond the reach of Hart and into the far corner!! Technique and power on full show from the Madrid midfielder, and his side now lead 5-0.
68' Courtois has made five saves in this match, keeping Celtic at bay throughout. He's not had to make this many in the Champions League since last season's final, when he made nine in total to help Real beat Liverpool in a man-of-the-match performance.
66' SAVED!!! Hatate arrives on the edge of the box to smash a loose ball goalwards, but Militao gets in the way! Turnbull picks up the loose ball and arcs a decent effort towards the front post, but Courtois gets down well and holds it!
Nacho
D. Alaba
66' Madrid also make defensive changes, with Alaba coming off for Nacho in the middle.
Dani Ceballos
L. Modrić
66' Modric comes off to a standing ovation from the Bernabeu faithful as he's replaced by Dani Ceballos for the hosts.
65' SAVED!!! Giakoumakis drifts beyond Militao in the box and receives the ball, firing a sweet half-volley which stings the fingertips of Courtois as he saves it!
Lucas Vázquez
Dani Carvajal
64' Carvajal comes off in Real's first alteration, and Lucas Vazquez comes on at right-back.
K. Benzema
Vinícius Júnior
63' Vinicius comes off following that well-taken goal, and on comes Karim Benzema, a man who knows more about scoring goals than most!
S. Hakšabanović
L. Abada
63' Sead Haksabanovic is next on for the Hoops, replacing Abada.
Jota
D. Maeda
63' Maeda is the next to be withdrawn, and Jota replaces him out wide for the Bhoys.
D. Turnbull
A. Mooy
63' Mooy also comes off, and is replaced in central midfield by David Turnbull.
G. Giakoumakis
K. Furuhashi
62' Here come a raft of Celtic changes, the first of which sees Furuhashi come off for Georgios Giakoumakis.
F. Valverde
Assist
61' A great pass from Valverde, and Vinicius shows his importance to this side by dispatching the ball into the net to put Real four goals to the good.
Vinícius Júnior
Goal
61' GOOOOAAAALLL!!!! It's four!!! After a sustained spell of pressure, Madrid work the ball to Asensio, who flicks it through to the overlapping Valverde down the right. He drills it into the six-yard box, with Vinicius reacting sharply to get in ahead of his marker and nudge the ball in! 4-0 to Los Blancos, and they're well on their way to topping Group F.
60' Vinicius stands up Juranovic in the box before floating a teasing cross towards the far post, but it's headed behind by Starfelt for a corner to Los Blancos.
58' Asensio plays a quick-one two with Kroos before letting fly from the edge of the box, but Jenz gets in the way to block it for Celtic!
56' Carvajal whips the ball towards the front post, and Rodrygo arrives to flick the ball goalwards, but it's blocked behind for a corner by Starfelt!
55' Asensio drifts behind the defence and back-heels to Valverde, but his shot across the face is blocked away by Jenz!
54' Abada's cross flashes across the face of goal, and is inviting for Celtic's players, but neither Maeda or Hatate can get there and Carvajal hacks the ball away!
53' Celtic have conceded four goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half, in the Champions League this season, with no team having conceded more during this period of games.
Marco Asensio
Goal
51' GOOOOAAALLLL!!!! The Madridstas have three!!! It's a really well worked goal too, as Valverde dribbles into the box. His pass out to Carvajal is cut back to the edge of the area by the off-balance full-back, and Asensio arrives late to smash the ball home, beating Hart to find the bottom corner!! 3-0 to the hosts, and curly no way back for Celtic now.
50' Asensio's cross from the left lands on the head of Carvajal, but he can't direct his header goalwards and Juranovic comes away with it.
50' Militao goes to ground again, this time after Maeda flies into a challenge late, and is penalised accordingly by the referee.
49' Real Madrid’s defeat against Leipzig last time out was their first of the 2022-23 campaign in all competitions, having gone unbeaten in their first 16 matches of the season. The 3-2 defeat was the first time Carlo Ancelotti’s side had conceded more than once in a single match this term.
K. Furuhashi
Yellow Card
47' Celtic look to create a chance as Furuhashi lays it off for Hatate on the edge of the box, but the Japan striker sticks out a stray forearm which catches Militao in the face. Play is brought back for the foul, and Furuhashi is booked.
46' Celtic resume proceedings, and we're back up and running in Madrid.
The teams return for the second half, and can Celtic finally make at least one of their chances count?
Rodrygo has led the line superbly for Real, pulling the Celtic defence in all directions and scoring the second from the spot. He's had four shots, with two on target and one blocked, while also completing two key passes and having 10 touches in the box. He won two of his three duels, and won the ball twice, once in Celtic's defensive third. Flyer.
The first half ends with Real Madrid 2-0 up thanks to two goals from the penalty spot! Celtic were their own worst enemy, with handballs from Jenz and O'Riley respectively gifting Modric and Rodrygo chances from 12 yards, which both duly dispatched. Celtic had chances though, and got a penalty of their own when Mendy brought down Abada. Juranovic couldn't pull one back though, with Courtois keeping his penalty out and maintaining a two-goal advantage for the hosts!
45' + 1' HALF-TIME: REAL MADRID 2-0 CELTIC.
45' + 1' We're into a minute of added time at the end of this first half.
45' Asensio's reverse ball finds Valverde in a world of space inside the Celtic box, but the Uruguayan's cross for Vinicius is put behind by Jenz.
43' A poor header back to goal from Starfelt is almost latched upon by Rodrygo, but out comes Hart to take the ball beyond him, and he finds Juranovic to secure possession for the visitors.
42' Good play off a Celtic throw sees Taylor play a one-two with Mooy, and the left-back's cross is put behind for a corner by Militao.
40' Celtic have been second-best in this game so far, but not by much of a distance, and have had numerous chances to score at the Bernabeu. As they've been unable to do so all season in Europe though, they haven't taken those chances, and even when presented with one from 12 yards, Juranovic couldn't capitalise!
39' Vinicius pulls off an outrageous flick to scoop the ball over the heads of Mooy and Juranovic as he enters the box, but pressure from the latter means he can't get to the ball and Celtic clear!
37' Rodrygo beats the offside trap inside the Celtic box to receive Vinicius' pass, and his ball across the face is blocked by Juranovic!
J. Juranović
Penalty Miss
35' Juranovic's strike was a good one, but the Celtic right-back put his shot too close to Courtois, allowing the Belgian to claw it out with a strong right-handed save!
T. Courtois
Penalty Save
35' SAVED!!!! Juranovic steps up and smashes a powerful penalty towards the left corner, but Courtois guesses right and gets a strong hand to the ball, pushing it away and keeping Real's 2-0 lead intact!
33' PENALTY!!! A third spot-kick of the match is awarded, and this time it goes Celtic's way! Abada cuts across Mendy before bursting into the box, and the Real Madrid left-back dangles out a leg, which certainly catches the Celtic winger! Abada goes down and the referee points to the spot, and the Bhoys have a chance to pull one back here!
33' SAVED!!! Asensio cuts across the edge of the box before letting fly with his left foot, and he fires a curling effort straight into the gloves of Hart!
32' Mendy races into the box before feeding Vinicius, whose shot on the turn is blocked by Juranovic for Celtic!
30' Asensio's clever back-heeled flick puts Rodrygo into space, and the forward surges after the ball with Celtic defenders chasing. He cuts it back inside for Asensio on the edge of the box, but Jenz gets in the way to cut the pass out!
29' SAVED!!! Hatate looks for options but soon chooses to go it alone, bypassing Kroos before striking a shot from 20 yards, which Courtois again stops with a parried save!
28' Celtic have scored just three goals from 69 shots in the Champions League this season, with a shot conversion rate of 4.4 per cent. Based on the quality of their chances, Ange Postecoglou’s side would have been expected to have scored seven goals this term (7.2 xG).
26' SAVED!!! Celtic's three Japanese attackers link up as Hatate bursts forward before finding Maeda. He tees Furuhashi up to shoot, but the forward can only smash his shot straight at Courtois, who parries well for Los Blancos!
24' Since the start of last season, no player has been involved in more open play sequences that have ended in a shot (121) or a goal (20), than Vinicius in this competition.
22' OVER!!! What a miss!!! Jenz gives the ball away and Rodrygo capitalises, racing into the box before cutting inside onto his left foot. He squares for Vinicius, who has the entire goal to aim at, but the winger can't find any of it as he puts a simple-looking shot over the crossbar!
Rodrygo
Penalty Goal
21' GOOOAAALLL!!! Rodrygo makes it two!! The young Brazilian steps up, and like Modric, sends Hart the wrong way to score for Real!!! 2-0 from two handball-related penalties, and the hosts are cruising at the Bernabeu!
M. O'Riley
Yellow Card
20' O'Riley is booked for the handball, but that's the least of Celtic's worries right now!
20' PENALTY!!! We're off to VAR to check for a potential Read Madrid penalty, and replays show that the ball did hit O'Riley's arm in an unnatural position, and after viewing the replays for a few moments, the referee points to the spot!
19' SAVED!!! What a stop from Hart!!! Modric's throughball splits the Celtic defence and Asensio races behind to put a ball across the face of goal. Vinicius arrives at the back post, but his low shot is somehow kept out by Hart with a miraculous save!!! Rodrygo follows in, but his effort is blocked by O'Riley!
17' OVER!!! Abada's deep cross from the right is chested down by Furuhashi, and Hatate smashes the ball on the half-volley, sending a thunderous strike just over the bar!
17' Real Madrid have only failed to win one of their last 11 group stage games at the Bernabeu under Carlo Ancelotti, all ending in victory other than a 2-1 loss to Sherriff Tiraspol last season. Los Blancos have scored 29 goals across these 11 matches, at an average of 2.6 per game.
15' Taylor loses out to Asensio on the edge of his own box, who finds Valverde on the opposite side. He takes a touch before shooting a goal, but can only blast his half-volley wide of the target!
14' WIDE!!! Hatate picks out Maeda with a brilliant pass in behind Carvajal, and Maeda crosses early for Furuhashi. The striker stretches to tap the ball home, but can't connect properly and puts it just wide!
13' Celtic are winless in this season’s Champions League, drawing two and losing three of their five matches. Only once previously have they failed to win a single game during a Champions League campaign, doing so in 2016-17 under Brendan Rodgers.
11' Celtic win the ball high up the pitch and O'Riley looks to find Furuhashi, but his pass in behind is too heavy and Courtois gathers the loose ball.
9' Celtic’s last five games against Spanish sides in the Champions League have all ended in defeat, with the Scottish side conceding 19 goals and only scoring once. They have never beaten a Spanish opponent in the European Cup or Champions League.
7' Valverde shows brilliant skill and anticipation to knock a loose ball beyond Jenz, and charges after it before spreading the ball left. Vinicius has it next and cuts inside, but his shot from the edge of the area is blocked by Maeda!
L. Modrić
Penalty Goal
6' GOOOOAAALLL!!!! 1-0 to Real Madrid!!! Modric steps up and calmly slots the ball into the bottom corner, sending Hart the wrong way, and putting Los Blancos into an early lead!!! The hosts couldn't have asked for a better start, and the Bhoys are up against it already!
5' PENALTY!!!! The referee points to the spot following a handball by Jenz in the Celtic box! Asensio's ball through to Rodrygo sees him force Hart into a save from the tightest of angles, and Valverde follows in the volley the rebound goalwards. It bounces off the ground and into the outstretched arm of Jenz, and the referee has no hesitation in awarding the spot kick!
4' This is just the fourth time a Scottish side has faced Real Madrid away from home in Europe, with each of the previous three ending in defeats – 0-6 for Rangers in 1963, 1-5 for Kilmarnock in 1965 and 0-3 for Celtic in 1980.
2' Maeda applies serious pressure on Courtois from Alaba's backpass, and blocks the Belgian's clearance behind for a goal kick.
1' Los Blancos kick the game off, and we're underway at the Bernabeu!
The sides head out onto the pitch, and we're nearly ready to go in the Spanish capital!
Celtic have only scored three goals in their five Champions League games so far, and one of those was an own goal. Giorgios Giakoumakis scored the opener against Shakhtar in their last game, but is one the bench for this one, with overall top scorer Kyogo Furuhashi preferred up front.
Vinicius Junior netted the first goal of Real Madrid’s Champions League campaign in the 3-0 win at Celtic Park, and also scored the opener against RB Leipzig last time out. Rodrygo’s 93rd minute penalty pulled one back for Los Blancos in a 3-2 loss, and the young Brazilian starts at centre-forward in place of Karim Benzema.
CELTIC SUBS: Scott Bain, Benjamin Siegrist, Giorgios Giakoumakis, Sead Haksabanovic, David Turnbull, James McCarthy, Jota, Alexander Bernabei, Oliver Abildgaard, James Forrest, Anthony Ralston, Stephen Welsh.
CELTIC (4-2-3-1): Joe Hart; Josip Juranovic, Carl Starfelt, Mortiz Jenz, Greg Taylor; Aaron Mooy, Reo Hatate; Liel Abada, Matt O’Riley, Daizen Maeda; Kyogo Furuhashi.
REAL MADRID SUBS: Andriy Lunin, Luis Lopez, Jesus Vallejo, Nacho, Karim Benzema, Eduardo Camavinga, Alvaro Odriozola, Lucas Vazquez, Dani Ceballos, Antonio Rudiger, Mariano Diaz.
REAL MADRID (4-3-3): Thibaut Courtois; Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao, David Alaba, Ferland Mendy; Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Federico Valverde; Marco Asensio, Rodrygo, Vinicius Junior.
The visitors come into this one with nothing to play for, having already been consigned to the bottom of Group F, unable to progress further in any European competition in 2022-23. They lost 3-0 to Real in Glasgow on matchday one, but will be wanting to finish with a flourish following a disappointing campaign.
The Madridstas have already qualified for the knockout stages, but need to better RB Leipzig’s result against Shakhtar if they’re to win the group. Los Blancos sit a point ahead of second-placed Leipzig, and face a Celtic side who are yet to win in this season’s Champions League.
Hello, and welcome to live coverage of this UEFA Champions League fixture, as Real Madrid take on Celtic in Group F.
