Commentary

That's all from Old Trafford today, so thank you for joining us and goodbye!
While United now await the semi-final draw and prepare for Saturday's Manchester derby, Charlton will return to League One duty at the weekend, when they welcome Barnsley to The Valley.
Ultimately comfortable winners, Manchester United progress to the final four of the EFL Cup - though they did not have things all their own way against League One Charlton. Until Rashford's late double killed off their hopes, the Addicks battled bravely and even hoped to find an equaliser during a bright spell in the second half, but their cup run is now over. United have now won 17 of their 23 League Cup quarter-final ties, including five of the last six.
90' + 5' FULL-TIME: MANCHESTER UNITED 3-0 CHARLTON ATHLETIC
Casemiro
Assist
90' + 4' Casemiro makes an impact as a second-half substitute, as he lofts through a perfectly-weighted pass from midfield to set up Rashford's second goal.
M. Rashford
Goal
90' + 4' RASHFORD STRIKES AGAIN! It's 3-0, and United are cruising through to the semis! A delightful clipped ball by fellow substitute Casemiro finds Rashford unmarked on the edge of the area, and he coolly slams the ball home to seal the deal. Game over!
90' + 2' Charlton's legs seem to weigh far more heavily, as their chance of snatching an equaliser evaporated with Rashford's strike. They are pretty much out for the count now.
F. Pellistri
Assist
90' On his first appearance, Pellistri records an assist by rolling the ball through to Rashford following an assertive out-to-in run from the right flank.
M. Rashford
Goal
90' RASHFORD FINISHES IT! United are through to the semi-finals! Making his debut today, Pellistri drifts inside from the right to slip a neat pass through to Rashford on the left side of the area, and the England striker pokes it beyond Maynard-Brewer for his 14th goal of the season! Manchester United lead 2-0 and are into the final four!
87' Pellistri makes an almost immediate impact, as he slips his marker on the right side of the area and plays in McTominay. The midfielder's shot is heavily deflected, however, and loops up for Maynard-Brewer to catch.
F. Pellistri
A. Elanga
84' Elanga is replaced by Pellistri, who makes his Manchester United debut.
84' SAVE! Maynard-Brewer keeps Charlton in it! From Garnacho's cutback, Eriksen whips a low, left-footed shot at goal from inside the area, but is denied by the goalkeeper's dive to the left!
J. Stockley
S. Sessegnon
82' Sessegnon is the other Charlton player replaced; Stockley comes on for the closing stages.
A. Henry
J. Rak-Sakyi
82' Charlton boss and Manchester United fan Dean Holden makes a double change, as he attempts to upset his boyhood club in the closing stages. First, Rak-Sakyi makes way for Henry.
82' After Garnacho manages to reach the ball as it spins towards the right byline and prod it back into the path of Eriksen, the latter's attempted shot is blocked at close range.
H. Maguire
Yellow Card
80' A hefty bodycheck on Sessegnon out on the right flank sees Maguire booked by the referee.
79' For all their endeavour since the hour-mark, it had been over 30 minutes since Charlton last attempted a shot before Fraser's tame free-kick attempt.
78' Though Fraser, who had won the set-piece opportunity in the first place, beats United's defensive wall with his 20-yard free-kick, it travels straight towards Heaton in the centre of the goal.
T. Malacia
Yellow Card
76' Desperately bringing down Fraser 20 yards from goal, Malacia is shown the game's first yellow card.
74' A perfectly-judged challenge by Martinez just inside his own area denies Leaburn the chance to get a shot off at goal. There was some risk in the tackle, but it needed to be made - cue more frustration for the young striker.
72' Under pressure from Leaburn at the near post, Heaton plucks Sessegnon's floated left-wing cross out of the night sky.
70' Having taken the ball on the move from Garnacho, a dangerous ball flashed across the face of goal by Eriksen goes unmet in the centre of the six-yard box. It then zips away off the wet turf to safety.
68' United's dominance for the first hour has dissipated over the past few minutes, as their League One opponents enjoy their best spell of the match - this tie is not over yet. Just one Charlton goal takes us to spot-kicks!
J. Payne
A. Morgan
66' After an industrious shift in midfield, Morgan makes way for Payne.
65' Garnacho's latest effort stings the palms of Maynard-Brewer in the Charlton goal. No luck yet for the young winger, but at least he struck that one on target.
64' Continuing to move the ball about with increased purpose, Charlton are momentarily on the front foot. They've got nothing to lose now, and will be going all-out for a goal.
62' Before his appearance in today's quarter-final, Rashford has been involved in 13 goals in his last 12 EFL Cup appearances - scoring nine and assisting four during that time.
E. O'Connell
C. Blackett-Taylor
61' Charlton also make a change: Blackett-Taylor is replaced by O'Connell.
Casemiro
K. Mainoo
60' Substitution Kobbie Mainoo Carlos Henrique Casimiro
C. Eriksen
Fred
60' United's final change of their triple substitution sees Eriksen come on for Fred.
M. Rashford
Antony
60' Antony makes way for EFL Cup specialist Rashford.
58' Ten Hag appears to be readying some substitutes near the touchline, as Charlton continue to grow in confidence and start to pose more of an attacking threat.
56' Fred's corner from the left is flicked on by Martinez, but Fraser is ultimately able to run the ball clear and initiate a counter-attack. It ends with a hanging cross from Blackett-Taylor towards Leaburn at the back post, but the young striker is then penalised for a high boot when challenging Martinez.
54' CLOSE! After Fred picks out his compatriot on the right-hand corner of Charlton's area once again, Antony zips a low shot narrowly wide of the far post from 20 yards! That's clearly his favourite range!
51' Manchester United have had 72 per cent of the ball so far in this quarter-final, and have also made more than double Charlton's number of passes.
49' Though the flag immediately goes up for offside, an excellent diagonal pass from Fred to Wan-Bissaka - who cushions the ball neatly for Elanga to sweep it home - essentially comes to nothing despite nestling in the net.
47' After Martinez fails to clear with a header outside his area, Morgan picks the ball up and slips it through for Fraser on the edge of the area. The Charlton midfielder strikes it with venom but sends it spiralling off target.
46' Manchester United kick off, and we are back under way at Old Trafford!
Despite making numerous changes to United's lineup today, Ten Hag has witnessed a satisfactory first-half display from his side. Several stars are available on the bench, though, if required. Of course, Charlton do not have such a luxury, and already seemed to be tiring towards the end of the first half.
Having dominated territorially for most of the half, Manchester United have a one-goal advantage as their reward at the break - and it was a special strike from Antony that separates the sides. While Charlton occasionally offered a threat on the break, their lack of cutting edge in the final third has seen the hosts concede only two shots at goal, compared to their own tally of 10 at the other end. Still, though, Ten Hag's men must seek a second goal after the interval, to avoid being taken to penalties in the event of a Charlton equaliser.
45' + 4' HALF-TIME: MANCHESTER UNITED 1-0 CHARLTON ATHLETIC
45' + 3' Charlton are hanging on for half-time here, in the final minute of stoppage time, as United pop the ball around with purpose on the edge of their visitors' area.
45' + 1' Following a smart move through the centre of the pitch, Charlton flood four men into the box, but Clare's cross from the right is too close to Heaton, who safely gathers the ball low down.
45' Wan-Bissaka wins a duel with Blackett-Taylor near the left byline; earning a goal-kick, despite the Charlton winger's claims for a foul or a corner.
43' Not for the first time, Garnacho rashly shoots wide following a searing run inside from the left: this time hammering the ball past the left-hand post from a tight angle.
41' After Fraser embarks on a surge upfield and swings a dangerous cross over from the left, Martinez cuts it out at full stretch on the edge of his own area.
39' Despite running positively at the Manchester United defence, Rak-Sakyi ends up down a blind alley on the right flank and loses the ball. Charlton have posed some threat on the counter, but are just lacking the right final ball so far.
37' It's Charlton who now have a chance to strike at goal from a free-kick not far outside the area, but Morgan pulls his effort well wide of the left-hand post as Heaton watches the ball fly by.
35' OFF THE POST! Fred steps up to the free-kick, from just over 20 yards out, and whips a shot over the defensive wall and against the inside of the right-hand post! It then bounces clear to relative safety - and Charlton survive!
A. Wan-Bissaka
Diogo Dalot
34' After receiving some medical attention for a possible muscular injury, Dalot is forced to come off. Wan-Bissaka will be his replacement.
33' Morgan is lured into a trip on Fred around 25 yards out from goal, and United will have an opportunity to shoot at goal from the subsequent free-kick.
31' Though Leaburn has sustained a knock to the head, a brief pause in proceedings finds him sufficiently fit to continue, and the game goes on.
30' With a raking ball across the box from the left, Garnacho only finds touch instead of his target, Fred, who had popped up on the right-hand side of the area.
28' McTominay is felled in the centre circle by Fraser, earning a free-kick, and the home side are totally on top. Since Antony's goal, momentum has been behind them.
26' Another venture to the left byline by Garnacho results in a cutback towards the penalty spot, which catches McTominay off guard and ultimately is cleared away to safety by Charlton's defence. The Addicks are under almost constant pressure now.
23' Manchester United have won their last 10 meetings with Charlton in all competitions - against no other side are they on a longer winning run - and they have now taken their first step to extending that streak by opening the scoring today.
Fred
Assist
21' Given some space to get his head up, Fred completes a pass across the centre of the pitch, which tees up Antony's opening goal.
Antony
Goal
21' UNITED LEAD! A superb individual goal puts the home side in front! Antony receives Fred's short pass across the edge of the area and curls a wonderful strike into the bottom-left corner from the right-hand side. Maynard-Brewer dived full-length, but there was nothing he could do! A brilliant finish, which puts the Red Devils 1-0 up!
19' A forceful tackle from Innis on Elanga draws loud cheers from the thousands of Charlton fans to have secured a ticket today, and their team are faring well enough in the opening stages against Premier League opposition.
17' Clare - already wearing a face mask - has been assessed and is allowed to continue his role in Charlton's defence, as the action resumes at Old Trafford.
16' Having been clattered by Heaton when attempting to get his head to the corner, Clare is still down on the turf and requires treatment. The game comes to a momentary halt.
15' Manchester United quickly break away following Charlton's corner - which is punched clear by Heaton - and their move ends on the edge of the opposition box with a blocked shot from Elanga.
13' Maguire has to concede a corner under pressure from Blackett-Taylor, and Charlton now have a set-piece opportunity from the left-hand side.
11' United push forward again, but Charlton's white shirts occupy the entire defensive third. Fred tries his luck from the edge of the box, but Inniss manages to head it behind for a corner.
9' JUST WIDE! Again, Garnacho's wing wizadry opens up the visitors, and he slaloms past three players in the Charlton area before dragging a low shot narrowly wide of the left-hand post! Brilliant stuff, but just lacking the finish.
7' CLOSE! Garnacho chests the ball down and sweeps it past the flat-footed Clare in one moment, then sprints in from the left touchline and drives a powerful attempt just over the crossbar from the edge of the area! Great play from the young winger!
5' Malacia is carelessly caught offside from the corner, and the immediate pressure on Charlton is eased.
4' After Dalot intercepts Blackett-Taylor's throughball deep inside his own half, United spring on the counter-attack and a rapid move results in the hosts' first corner.
2' Garnacho drives past Clare on the left-hand side of the Charlton area; dragging the ball back from the byline towards the on-rushing Dalot, who wildly sends his shot over the bar.
1' We are under way in Manchester!
The players are out on the pitch at Old Trafford, and kick-off is now just moments away!
In contrast to their hosts, Charlton change just one player from the team that won last weekend. After featuring in the dramatic penalty shootout win over Brighton last month, Maynard-Brewer returns, having been sidelined against Lincoln due to injury. Clare missed the Addicks' last-16 tie due to suspension but is available and starts today.
Making a total of eight changes from the side which started against Everton last time out, Erik ten Hag hands debuts to veteran goalkeeper Heaton and England youth international Mainoo; Elanga, McTominay and Maguire are all included too. Meanwhile, Bruno Fernandes misses out through suspension and Jadon Sancho is absent once again.

Charlton overcame Lincoln City 2-1 in League One at the weekend, to sit 12th in the third-tier table just after the midpoint of their campaign. Last month, they battled past Brighton and Hove Albion in the previous round via a tense penalty shoot at The Valley, and the Addicks now aim to reach the League Cup semis for the first time in their history. The London club - who are expected to have huge travelling support of up to 9,000 fans - have won only one of their last 25 away games against Manchester United, and none since August 1986.
Today aiming for a place in the EFL Cup semi-finals, Manchester United advanced to the fourth round of the FA Cup after a 3-1 win over Everton on Friday - their seventh straight victory in all competitions. Five-time winners of the trophy, whose last triumph was in 2017, United suffered successive semi-final exits to city rivals Manchester City in 2020 and 2021, while their last two eliminations in the quarter-finals have come against teams from lower tiers. The Red Devils' only other League Cup meeting with Charlton was a 5-1 win back in the 1974-75 season.
Hello and welcome to live coverage of today's EFL Cup quarter-final between Manchester United and Charlton Athletic at Old Trafford!
