Commentary

That is all for tonight folks, thanks for joining us. Goodbye!
Even though Grealish and Silva missed several chances each, tonight's result is still a huge success for Guardiola and his coaching staff. They continue to set the standard at the top of Group G, and they remain three points clear of Dortmund, who beat Sevilla 4-1 in Spain. Haaland will no doubt get the headlines, but City's squad is arguably stronger than ever as they try to win their first Champions League trophy.
City will confirm their spot in the knockout stages of the Champions League next week if they beat Copenhagen away from home, and if tonight is anything to go by, they may have that secured inside ten minutes. Guardiola's troops were levels and levels above their opponents this evening, with Haaland scoring his 27th and 28th goals in the competition inside 32 minutes. He then watched on as Khocholava scored an own goal when Cancelo's shot took a double deflection before being subbed at half-time. City were still able to create chance after chance, but they only scored two more goals in the end. Mahrez scored from the spot after Laporte was fouled by Stamenic before Alvarez finished off a stunning team move in the 76th minute.
90' + 2' FULL-TIME - MANCHESTER CITY 5-0 COPENHAGEN.
90' + 1' WHAT A STRIKE! Gomez nearly scores the goal of the match from the edge of the box, but Grabara throws himself in the way of his strike. Gomez was picked out on the edge of the area from a corner, but he joins the long list of players who could have scored this evening.
89' It looks like we are going to get no stoppage time once again, meaning Grealish will have to settle for a brilliant performance only, but he has had numerous chances to improve the scoreline.
86' City are just showing signs of slowing down, and they have taken the foot off the gas, so City's fans may have to settle for 5-0, which must be a nice feeling!
83' GREALISH! The City midfielder is unlucky not to score once again, as he watches his latest attempt miss the target. Instead of going for power, Grealish tried to caress his latest shot into the corner, but the slick surface didn't help him, and Copenhagen will be delighted to see it remain at 5-0.
80' Grabara denies Grealish again, but the latest effort from the former Aston Villa man was tame.
C. Sørensen
L. Lerager
79' Copenhagen's latest substitution sees Lerager replaced by Sorensen.
78' WIDE! Grealish deserves a goal this evening, but he is the latest player to scuff his lines. The England international worked well with Palmer before letting fly, only to see his strike miss the far corner.
J. Álvarez
Goal
76' GOAAALLL - MANCHESTER CITY 5-0 COPENHAGEN - Alvarez gets his goal, and he could not miss from point-blank range. Grealish did all the work as he carried the ball into the box before playing in Mahrez. The Algeria international cut his pass back into Alvarez, who tapped in from five yards out. Just when Copenhagen appear close to scoring, City put them back in their place.
R. Mahrez
Assist
76' Mahrez now has a goal and an assist to his name, and it was good to see him show his unselfish side on that occasion.
75' WIDE! Copenhagen nearly scored their first goal of the evening, but Jensen's header from the corner just missed the far post.
74' BLOCK! Rico-Lewis shows outstanding commitment to deny Mukairu, as Copenhagen register their first shot on target. The two substitutes raced into the City box, and it was the young City ace who got his leg in the way of Mukairu's shot. Corner to come...
71' OFF THE POST! City burst into life, but Alvarez can only hit the outside of the post. Grealish's pass was weighted perfectly for Alvarez, as it allowed him to strike the ball in his stride. Grabara was beaten, but the summer signing continues to wait for his first goal tonight.
70' The last five minutes have been rather dull for City's usual standards that they set earlier tonight. They have dominated possession and still controlled matters, but they have taken a breather by the looks.
68' Copenhagen have had one touch inside City's box this evening. Yes, you did read that correctly!
J. Wilson-Esbrand
Bernardo Silva
66' Guardiola hands another Champions League debut out, with Wilson-Esbrand on in place of Silva.
P. Mukairu
V. Claesson
66' Copenhagen boss Jacob Neestrup alters his forward line, with Mukairu coming on for Claesson.
P. Ankersen
K. Diks
66' Further changes for Copenhagen as Diks makes way for Ankersen.
63' Elsewhere in Group G, Dortmund are leading Sevilla by three goals to one away from home.
60' Mahrez has successfully converted his last six penalties in the Champions League, and that may be the confidence boost he needs to kickstart his campaign.
R. Lewis
João Cancelo
57' 17-year-old Lewis makes his Champions League debut, replacing Cancelo with over 30 minutes to go.
H. Haraldsson
M. Daramy
56' Haraldsson is introduced into the game, with Daramy making way.
R. Mahrez
Penalty Goal
55' EASY! MANCHESTER CITY 4-0 COPENHAGEN - Mahrez marks his 200th appearance for Manchester City with a goal, which is his first of the season. Grabara committed himself to the opposite corner, allowing Mahrez to smash the ball into the bottom left corner.
M. Stamenic
Yellow Card
54' The referee spots a blatant foul from Stamenic in the penalty area as he brings down Laporte in the penalty area. It will be Mahrez to take the spot-kick...
54' PENALTY CITY!
52' Ederson has finally had his hands on the ball, but it was only to make an easy save as Kristansen poked the ball into the box from the far post.
51' CLOSE! Palmer is the latest player to be denied by Grabara, as the City sub watched on as his curling effort was punched clear. The young midfielder thought he had done enough, but the Copenhagen stopper is in fine form tonight.
49' Even with Haaland off the pitch, City should still have more than enough quality to add to their tally. Alvarez has shown flashes of brilliance when he has been given a chance, while Grealish and Silva will want to make up for their missed opportunities.
47' We are back underway at the Etihad Stadium!
V. Lund Jensen
M. Karamoko
46' Karamoko, who was a surprise starter tonight, is replaced at the break by Jensen.
C. Palmer
E. Haaland
46' No hat-trick for Haaland as he is given a rest, with Palmer on for the second half.
Copenhagen's gameplan was always going to be negative, but they do not really have anywhere to go after that first half. They know they can't compete with City, so it will be a case of trying to keep the scoreline as respectable as possible.
The referee put Copenhagen out of their misery early in the first half, with no stoppage time allocated at the end of the first 45 minutes. It would be great to be a fly on the wall inside their dressing room as they try to work out how to stop Haaland from doing what he does best: score goals. He scored his 27th Champions League goal to open the scoring with his first touch before adding a second. City's third came via an own goal from Khocholava, but in truth, 3-0 flatters the Danish outfit. Grealish has gone close twice; Silva should have at least one to his name, while Copenhagen goalkeeper Grabara deserves tonnes of credit for some fine saves.
45' HALF-TIME - MANCHESTER CITY 3-0 COPENHAGEN.
43' OVER! The scoreboard should say 4-0, but Silva scuffs his lines from inside the box. The City midfielder latched onto a cross at the far post, and rather than shoot usually, he tried to lob Grabara. The goalkeeper narrowed the angle, and that was enough to distract the playmaker.
D. Khocholava
Own Goal
39' GOAAALLL - MANCHESTER CITY 3-0 COPENHAGEN - Haaland raises his arms in the air, but it is only to celebrate as Gomez's shot takes a double deflection before finding the net. The last touch came off Khocholava, who could do nothing about it, and that just about sums up the first 45 minutes for Copenhagen.
35' To their credit, all you can hear inside the Etihad Stadium is the Copenhagen fans, but they have had nothing to smile about so far. Unless they feel privileged watching Haaland in person.
E. Haaland
Goal
32' GOAAAALLL - MANCHESTER CITY 2-0 COPENHAGEN - Make that 28 goals in 22 Champions League appearances for Haaland as he taps into an empty net from a corner. Cancelo's powerful shot from the edge of the box was palmed away by Grabara, but he could only tee up Haaland, who waited to set himself before tapping home. So easy for the former Borussia Dortmund man!
32' CHANCE! Grabara denies Grealish for the second time in the first half, but the latest effort was easier to deal with, as Grealish smashed the ball down his throat. The Copenhagen keeper has conceded a corner, but it could have been much worse!
28' Haaland now has 27 goals in 22 Champions League matches. To put that into context, that is the same amount of goals as Rivaldo and Luis Suarez scored in their entire careers in the competition.
26' City fail to take advantage of the corner that Grealish won, and it remains 1-0 to the home side.
24' GRABARA AGAIN! The Copenhagen goalkeeper, who is wearing a face mask due to injury tonight, is having no issue spotting the ball. He has just denied Grealish, with the former Aston Villa midfielder desperately close to curling his shot into the top corner.
23' SAVE! Grabara stayed big and central, and that was perfect positioning as he denied Haaland from inside the box. The City forward generated a tremendous amount of power behind his shot, but Grabara was on hand to punch the ball clear.
23' Copenhagen would have been happy to only be 1-0 down after the first 22 minutes, but there are not many fans in attendance that thinks the scoreline will still be the same after 30 minutes.
21' Copenhagen's front three have barely had a kick tonight, and that does not come as a surprise. Daramy, Karamoko and Claesson still have work to do, though, but the majority will be done further towards their own goal than City's.
18' City should be two up at the Etihad Stadium, but Copenhagen are hanging on for now. Gundogan and Mahrez both have shots saved by Grabara, while the visitors managed to clear a shot off the line after a strike from Alvarez.
16' CHANCE! Haaland is human, after all, as the Norway international heads straight into the hands of Grabara from the penalty spot. It wasn't the easiest of opportunities, but the way he has started the season, that could easily have gone in.
15' Haaland's killer instinct is the difference between the two sides, but City are purring, and they could double their lead at any moment.
12' OFF THE POST! Silva rattles the frame of the goal, failing to convert Grealish's throughball. The Portugal international tried his best to squeeze the ball home at the near post, and replays showed Grabara got the slightest touch on the effort to tip it onto the frame of the goal.
9' Haaland is the third player to score in each of his first three Champions League appearances for an English club after Marouane Chamakh for Arsenal and Ferran Torres for the Citizens.
E. Haaland
Goal
7' GOAAAALLL - MANCHESTER CITY 1-0 COPENHAGEN - Who else? Haaland opens the scoring for the home side as he converts Cancelo's cross into the bottom corner. The Copenhagen defence switched off, and Haaland curled his effort past Grabara.
5' WIDE! Cancelo registers the first shot towards goal, but the City right-back gets his angles all wrong and is closer to finding the corner flag than the goal from the edge of the box.
3' We are only two minutes into the game, and the picture is clear. This is attack versus defence already, and Copenhagen have plenty of bodies behind the ball.
1' We are underway in Manchester!
The two teams are now out on the pitch, and we are moments away from kick-off!

Dias, Laporte, Gomez, Mahrez and Alvarez are all given a chance to start, with De Bruyne, Foden, Ake and Akanji the ones to make way. While Akinkunmi Amoo misses out through injury, Mamoudou Karamoko has recovered from injury to lead the line for Copenhagen.

City have yet to lose any of their opening 11 games this season, and they have won four on the spin since drawing 1-1 with Aston Villa at the start of September. Copenhagen ended a run of four games without a victory last weekend, as they beat AGF 1-0.
After thrashing neighbours Manchester United, City will look to extend their advantage at the top of the table, with Pep Guardiola's side already three points clear of second-placed Borussia Dortmund.
Good evening and welcome to our live coverage of the Champions League clash between Manchester City and Copenhagen from Group G.
