France v Turkey Live Commentary, 15/10/19

1 - 1
O. Giroud (76)
K. Ayhan (81)
Stade de France

Both sides can now look forward to November, when France will have another chance to qualify at home against Moldova. Turkey, meanwhile, have a visit from Iceland to weather - a draw will do it there, and if not they travel to Andorra in their final game. Turkey's dreams of Euro 2020 are surely not far away. That's all for now. Goodbye!
That 1-1 draw leaves Turkey and France all square of Group H on 19 points, with Turkey top by virtue of their superior head-to-head record. Iceland's 2-0 win in Andorra leaves them third on 15 points, meaning one win for France and Turkey in either of their last two games will seal their qualification.
What an entertaining game that was, a case of France's unstoppable force coming up against Turkey's immovable object. France were the more enterprising side all game and must have thought they'd secured Euro 2020 qualification with Giroud's late goal, only for Ayhan to pop up and grab a point for Turkey. Given how well the visitors defended, it's no less than they deserve. Both sides will surely qualify for the finals - and they'll be worth watching too.
90' + 4' Calhanoglu holds the ball up near France's corner flag and a few valuable seconds tick away for France! France try to get the ball forward for one last attack but that's that!
90' + 3' France resort to the direct approach. Giroud slips between Turkey's two central defenders but France's target man is offside. That's great news for Turkey, who can take their time over a long goal-kick.
90' + 2' Tolisso whips a cross in from the right but Soyuncu powers it away with another header. He's really been imperious.
90' + 1' Lemar dawdles on the ball and Turkey are away 4 on 4! Yilmaz peels away wide right to deliver a cross but completely fluffs his lines. What a waste!
90' There'll be a minimum of four added minutes here. It's nailbitingly tense.
88' Great save by Gunok! Ikone picks up the ball on the right and cuts inside to smash the ball towards the bottom right corner. Gunok dives to his left to push the ball away! If Turkey get a point here, they'll have him to thank.
J. Ikoné
K. Coman
87' France substitution. Coman, who's played well, off. Ikone on. Can he nick this for France?
K. Karaman
Yellow Card
86' Karaman's booked next for a bad tackle. Turkey need to keep their discipline if they want to hold on.
İ. Kahveci
Yellow Card
86' This game's getting feisty now. Neither side wants to lose this. Kahveci is booked for saying a bit too much to the referee.
C. Tosun
Yellow Card
85' Tosun is next to see yellow for a rough tackle on Pavard. Griezmann flights the ball in but can't find a teammate. Time is running out for France.
83' France look rattled by that goal. After all, Turkey haven't created much all game. However, when they have, they've been a threat.
H. Çalhanoğlu
81' Calhanoglu's fantastic delivery was responsible for that goal. It's not over yet though - Turkey still have to hold on for the last ten minutes. France have beaten them once - can they do it again?
K. Ayhan
81' GOAL! 1-1 TURKEY! Ayhan nods Turkey level! The substitute right-back powers a header past Mandanda at his near post from the left side of the six yard box. You can't begrudge Turkey something for their valiant defending.
C. Tosun
O. Tufan
81' Before the free-kick, Turkey make their last throw of the die. Tufan off, Tosun on. Can he repeat his late goalscoring heroics from the other day?
A. Griezmann
Yellow Card
81' Griezmann takes a yellow for the team with a tactical foul in midfield. What can Turkey make of this?
79' Lemar takes a great first touch to carry the ball into Turkey's box and drills a shot straight at Gunok, who makes a great save! That would have sealed it for France.
78' France look delighted they have the goal they need, but they still need to be careful. Tekdemir looks to send Yilmaz through on goal but the striker's offside.
T. Lemar
B. Matuidi
77' France make a substitution. Lemar comes on for Matuidi.
A. Griezmann
76' That was a fantastic corner from Griezmann, whose deliveries had so far been repelled by Turkey. Well, they couldn't do anything about that one! The visitors may live to regret not scoring earlier.
O. Giroud
76' GOAAAALLLL! 1-0 FRANCE! Giroud rises high in the centre of the box to nod a header towards goal. It takes a slight glance off Soyuncu and nestles into the corner of the net! That might be the goal that qualifies France for Euro 2020!
75' Turkey are facing an onslaught here. Demiral concedes a corner. Varane heads wide again. Another France cross comes in and Demiral heads powerfully out of play. France claim a penalty - it did hit his arm but it was in no way intentional. France corner.
73' Nothing comes of Griezmann's corner. Turkey counter and Tufan again fires high and wide. Will that Yilmaz miss come to cost them?
O. Giroud
W. Ben Yedder
72' Before the corner's taken, Ben Yedder trudges off. Giroud comes on to replace him.
71' Soyuncu punts Pavard's cross away from danger. Corner for France.
70' Tolisso slaloms past a few Turkish challenges only for Turkey to put the ball out of play. It's a corner to France. Varane rises high to head wide. France's captain yells in frustration. Giroud is getting ready to come on.
68' Demiral makes a fantastic tackle to stop Coman in his tracks as the winger gallops down the left for France. Turkey could make any team work hard for a win in this form.
66' Ozan holds off Matuidi and angles a pass wide but it goes out for a throw. Ben Yedder gets a sniff of the ball but Soyuncu is there to boot it away. The Leicester defender's been magnificent here.
65' Griezmann holds off the Turkish defence and keeps possession for France. Tolisso has a pop from range but it's blocked. Hernandez gets a shot away but he's well offside.
63' Coman reaches the goalline down the left and hangs the ball up for the arriving Griezmann but Gunok is there at the near post to catch. The first goal looked certain to be France's earlier, but now it's not so clear.
61' France win a corner and Ben Yedder has a tame close range shot saved. Up the other end, Tufan too fires over from a clever short-range pass. Turkey are looking more threatening now. We're in for a great last half hour.
59' Turkey almost score! Griezmann dribbles into the area and goes down after a fair challenge from Demiral - no penalty. Turkey immediately counter and Yilmaz blazes a volley over the crossbar! How big that could have been for Turkey's qualification hopes!
58' France are getting going again now. Hernandez puts in a first-time cross from the left that Demiral hooks away.
57' Turkey get lucky! Sissoko looks to power Meras off the ball and the left-back slips, setting Sissoko through on goal! The referee calls play back for a foul. Not sure about that.
56' Herrnandez goes it alone through the middle and rolls a tame shot wide with his left foot. France are looking more and more frustrated.
55' France are carrying on as they did in the first half but haven't quite revved up again yet. Varane looks to free Pavard down the right but his pass is sloppy and rolls out for a goal-kick.
K. Ayhan
Z. Çelik
53' Turkey make their second change - Celik off, Fortuna Dusseldorf right-back Ayhan on. These two changes early in the half might leave them vulnerable to fatigue later.
52' Celik is down injured and the physio comes on to treat him - he can't continue. In the meantime, a few France players are on the sideline receiving treatment.
50' Calhanoglu curls in the free-kick and Mandanda dives out to catch it. France's keeper had to get that right - it would have been a nod-in for Turkey if he hadn't.
L. Hernández
Yellow Card
49' Turkey win the ball in midfield and make tracks down the right through Karaman. Hernandez slides in with a mistimed challenged and is promptly booked. Turkey free-kick in a dangerous position.
47' Celik climbs above Coman to win a header and the Bayern winger goes down holding his back. He's still moving gingerly. Let's keep an eye on that one.
46' The second half gets underway. Coman nutmegs Celik and finds Pavard on the opposite flank, who is unfortunately offside.
H. Çalhanoğlu
O. Yokuşlu
46' Interesting, this. Turkey make an attacking change at half-time: Yokuslu goes off and is replaced by Milan winger Calhanoglu.
France had 64% possession and 12 shots in that first half to Turkey's one, yet it's still 0-0. It's hard to know what France can do to break the deadlock, except continue with more of the same. If Turkey can make a few more chances themselves, this game will get even more interesting.
This game is fascinatingly poised. France had all the attacks in the opening 45 minutes but couldn't find a way through a well-drilled and resolute Turkey defence. When Gunok's been called upon, most notably from that France double chance, he's been up to the task. 45 more minutes of this please!
45' + 1' One added minute in this first half. Demiral makes a fantastic sliding tackle to deny Matuidi in Turkey's penalty area. Matuidi yells for a penalty but it's clearly not.
45' Karaman jinks inside past Lenglet and rattles a shot off Hernandez which appears to go out for a corner. The referee disagrees - it's a goal kick to France. Karaman is understandably incensed - Turkey's attacks have been few and far between so far.
44' Turkey are playing so deep they're almost inviting pressure, but they're thriving under it. Matuidi curls in a cross from the left that Coman can only nod wide.
43' Karaman is penalised for handball in midfield. France can resume their attack.
42' Griezmann barges into the back of Tekdemir who shields the ball wisely. Turkey free-kick. Turkey have done extremely well to get through this first half unscathed.
40' It's hard to keep up with this match! A simple ball over the top for Yilmaz forces Mandanda to rush out and clear. France counter with Griezmann racing down the right. He cuts inside and has his pass for Ben Yedder cut out. It's a corner which Turkey see off easily.
39' Griezmann is electrifying to watch. The Barca man powers towards goal, playing a one-two with Ben Yedder that Demiral just about manages to block. France get a corner shortly afterwards but Gunok claims comfortably.
38' Demiral gives France's midfielders the slip with a drop of the shoulder but his final pass for Kahveci lets him down. If Turkey could keep the ball for just a few seconds, they might be able to create something.
36' Turkey manage to make a brief foray forward but it is indeed brief. Griezmann cuts inside from the right and curls a wonderful effort towards goal that dips just wide of the post.
35' Matuidi angles a clever through-ball towards Tolisso, who's made a run into the box. The Bayern Munich midfielder attempts to flick the ball towards goal but can't quite manage it. France are playing with the confidence of world champions.
33' Tolisso angles a pass wide for Pavard but Meras beats him to the header. No matter - France come again. Turkey can do nothing but camp in their own defensive third.
31' It's a third corner to France. Again Turkey manage to nod it away. It's easy to see why they've been so hard to beat in this group. They look a very solid outfit.
29' Celik looks fine to carry on. France have had nine shots to Turkey's none so far. Surely Turkey can't hold on like this for 90 minutes.
27' Griezmann shoots from outside the box and wins another corner for France. Lenglet nods Griezmann's corner towards the far post but it bounces wide.
26' Sissoko dribbles towards Turkey's defence again but this time he can't find a teammate. Celik goes down injured after he makes a sliding tackle on Hernandez by the touchline. Play will continue for now.
25' Gunok drops low to stop Sissoko's rasping shot after the ball lands nicely for the Tottenham Hotspur man. Turkey's goalkeeper is having to stay alert here.
24' Turkey intercept and Yokuslu looks to free Kahveci down the right but his pass can only bounce out of play. The visitors are struggling to find an out-ball.
23' France win the ball back and come again. Turkey have all their men in their own half at the moment. They're doing well at keeping France at bay.
22' Coman picks the ball up about 30 yards out and curls the ball over the crossbar. That'll give Turkey the chance to calm things down a bit.
21' Hernandez gets forward down the left and feeds Coman. Coman teases Celik and hangs the ball up for Griezmann, whose looping header is caught by Gunok. Turkey are having to dig deep for now.
19' Gunok punches the corner away. France have all the momentum at the moment. Turkey get a bit of respite as Sissoko is called offside.
17' Exceptional defending from Turkey! Coman's backheel sets Griezmann through on goal and Gunok drops low to block! That's a vital stop. The keeper saves Sissoko's powerful follow-up shot and Matuidi's third shot from range is blocked. it's a corner to France.
16' France circulate the ball, looking for a shooting opportunity. Tolisso runs forward on the underlap but Coman's pass for him is intercepted. Turkey are defending well so far, as you'd expect.
14' Turkey play the free-kick long and it's nothing Varane can't deal with. However, Turkey get a throw out of it down their left. The crowd look to be having tons of fun.
13' Soyuncu carries the ball forward from centre-back and Sissoko elects to hack the Leicester defender down. It's a Turkey free-kick.
12' Now it's France's turn to attack. The flag goes up against Griezmann, whose poor touch loses him the ball and leads him to commit a foul as he tries winning it back.
11' Turkey manage to work their way out down their left. Kahveci passes to Yilmaz but it's in front of France's defence and they get the ball away.
10' France are quite content to sit off, pressing as soon as Turkey's centre-backs try to pass into midfield. The visitors are admirably refusing to boot it long so far.
8' Turkey take the opportunity to settle into the game, passing around at the back. They've only conceded two goals in this group so far - they won't want things to stay this open.
7' The offside flag goes up against Tekdemir. France go up the other end and Pavard crosses in but it's headed away.
5' Celik tries and fails to beat Hernandez, who clears away. Coman bursts down the left for France on the counter but is soon seen off. This game's started at a fantastic pace.
3' France have started this match with intent. Tekdemir comes in a bit too strong on Tolisso and gives away another foul.
2' Yilmaz wags his finger at the referee as he gives away a foul against Hernandez. France pop the ball around to find Sissoko at the far post, whose effort is safely caught by Gunok.
1' France start quickly as Griezmann gallops down the left flank, forcing Soyuncu to rush across to boot the ball out for a throw. The home crowd are well up for this.
1' And Turkey get us underway!
The two countries' national anthems ring out and we're ready to go! France are in their usual blue shirts, white shorts and red socks. Turkey are sporting white shirts and red shorts.
Turkey make four changes from their fortunate 1-0 win over Albania as Soyuncu, Yokuslu, Kahveci and Karaman all come in. Their 39-year-old captain Emre starts on the bench, as does that game's scorer Tosun.
Didier Deschamps changes two players from France's crucial 1-0 win away to Iceland three days ago. Hernandez comes in for Digne at left-back, while Ben Yedder gets the nod ahead of that game's goalscorer Giroud up front.

However, France have to face Turkey, the side responsible for their sole defeat in this group back in June. Turkey aren't so far from qualifying themselves - better Iceland's result in Andorra tonight and they're through. Given Turkey's revival under Senol Gunes, you wouldn't put it past them.
One more win. That's all France need to get to qualify for UEFA Euro 2020 and be in with a chance of avenging their final defeat to Portugal at this very stadium in 2016. After winning their last four qualifying matches, the world champions will be confident they can get the job done on home soil.
Hello and welcome to our live text commentary of this Euro 2020 qualifying Group H match between France and Turkey at the Stade de France, Paris.
