Commentary

That is all from the live coverage of the clash between Torino and Inter in Serie A – until next season, goodbye!
Inter’s attention turns to the upcoming Champions League final next Saturday. The Nerazzurri will travel to Istanbul in preparation of facing treble-chasing Manchester City, who lifted the FA Cup title earlier on after defeating rivals Manchester United at Wembley Stadium. Inzaghi’s side will be up against it, but they will head there with confidence after a strong end to their domestic campaign.
Inter end their Serie A campaign with victory after a 1-0 win at Torino. Brozovic’s 37th-minute strike proved the difference before the Nerazzurri sat back in the second half and defended with credible resilience. The triumph temporarily moves Inzaghi’s side up to second in the table but that could change later on when Lazio visit Empoli, trailing the Nerazzurri by just a point.
90' + 4' FULL-TIME: TORINO 0-1 INTER
90' + 3' Lukaku goes close at the other end as he smashes a left-footed half-volley just wide to the left of goal. Torino may have one last chance to salvage a point here.
90' + 2' WHAT A MISS! Sanabria will not want to see this one again. Schuurs rolls the Torino striker into acres of space inside the area but the forward rushes his left-footed attempt and misses the ball entirely!
90' + 1' There will be four more minutes of added time for Inter to defend. Will they be heading to the Champions League final after a victory in their final game of the Serie A season?
90' Miranchuk whips a timid effort well wide from range, offering Cordaz the chance to waste a few more precious seconds as Inter await the final whistle.
89' Milinkovic-Savic races off his line to claim the ball as Dzeko looks to latch onto a long pass over the top. Inter have all but their front two inside their own half as they aim to protect their narrow one-goal lead.
87' Aina whips in a cross from the right flank and wins a corner for Torino. Linetty sends in the set-piece, which sails over the head of his team-mates.
85' Torino are trying everything to find a way through the Inter defence, yet the Nerazzurri are standing firm. Will the visitors be able to hold out?
83' Another Torino corner comes on the left flank as Gagliardini and De Vrij combine to turn behind. Linetty delivers the set-piece, which Pellegri heads wide to the right when unmarked.
P. Pellegri
I. Ilić
81' Ilic also makes way for the introduction of Pellegri.
D. Seck
W. Singo
81' Juric makes another double change. The first of which sees Seck replace Singo.
80' OFF THE POST! Dzeko breaks away on a rapid Inter counter-attack before finding an unmarked Lukaku, who immediately returns the ball back to the former. The Inter striker sweeps a right-footed finish towards the bottom-left corner but gets denied by the post!
78' Inter have rarely left their own half in the last 10 minutes or so. Inzaghi and his technical staff appear happy to sit on their one-goal lead, despite Torino's best efforts to find a late leveller.
76' A deflected Sanabria striker almost falls kindly for Vlasic, who gets ushered out the way before Dumfries hooks a clearance long down the pitch.
75' Ilic races through the Inter defence before going down after a tackle from De Vrij. The referee waves the appeals for a free-kick away before showing head coach Juric a yellow card for his furious reaction.
R. Bellanova
R. Gosens
73' Bellanova comes on for Inter as Gosens makes way at wing-back.
72' Another chance falls Torino's way as Karamoh volleys at the back post. However, a wall of Inter defenders greet the effort to block away from danger. Juric's hosts are ramping up the pressure now!
71' WHAT A SAVE! Cordaz makes an unbelievable stop to deny Sanabria from close range. Vlasic worked it well down the left before pulling back for the Torino striker, whose powerful left-footed strike gets parried away by Inter's substitute goalkeeper at full stretch.
K. Linetty
S. Ricci
69' Ricci leaves the pitch to a rapturous applause as Linetty comes on for the Torino midfielder.
R. Gosens
Yellow Card
68' Gosens hacks down Singo on Torino's right and the Inter wing-back goes into the referee's book.
67' CHANCE! Dumfries has the freedom to pace down the right flank before lifting a perfectly weighted delivery into the area. An unmarked Lukaku heads down from near the penalty spot but Milinkovic-Savic makes a comfortable save.
F. Acerbi
A. Bastoni
66' Acerbi also comes on at the same time for Bastoni.
A. Cordaz
S. Handanovič
65' In a bizarre change, Inzaghi brings off Handanovic to allow back-up goalkeeper Cordaz a rare league appearance.
64' Brozovic powers through Vlasic and makes it into the area before hesitating when deciding between crossing or shooting. The Croatia midfielder ends up doing neither before Darmian turns behind for a Torino corner at the other end in a frantic period of play.
62' Darmian goes down holding his face after flying into a full-blooded tackle on the energetic Karamoh. The Torino home supporters are less than impressed as their side prepare to take a throw-in on the left-hand side.
61' Torino’s last win against Inter in Serie A was back on January 27 2019; since then, six wins for the Nerazzurri and one draw (1-1, on 13 March 2022). Can Juric's hosts turn the tide here?
60' GREAT SAVE! Karamoh almost makes an immediate impact from the bench after bursting down the left flank. The winger angles a strike towards the bottom-right corner but Handanovic pulls off a great stop to tip around the post.
59' HUGE CHANCE! Brozovic stands up a delightful free-kick towards the back post, where an unmarked Gagliardini waits. The Inter midfielder somehow heads wide to the right of goal with just Milinkovic-Savic to beat.
W. Singo
Yellow Card
58' Barella stays down clutching his face after being brought down by Singo, who goes into the referee's book with a caution. The Torino fans are furious but the wing-back bundled the Italy midfielder down as he looked to latch onto a loose ball.
Y. Karamoh
R. Rodríguez
57' Defender Rodriguez is also brought off for Karamoh.
O. Aina
M. Vojvoda
57' Juric takes the chance to make two changes of his own, the first of which sees Vojvoda come off for Aina.
57' WIDE! Just on as a substitute, Dzeko threatens the Torino defence with a driving run through the middle. The Inter striker drills a low left-footed effort, which goes just wide to Milinkovic-Savic's left.
56' Lukaku's first touch is poor on the left-hand side and Singo steps in to intervene. The Belgium striker has looked good at times in this clash, but his hold-up play there was poor.
N. Barella
H. Çalhanoğlu
55' Calhanoglu also makes way for Barella in the Inter midfield.
E. Džeko
L. Martínez
55' Inzaghi makes the first two changes of the game. Martinez wanders off as Dzeko comes on.
53' Calhanoglu tries his luck from range but his right-footed piledriver goes straight into Milinkovic-Savic's grateful grasp. Torino can't afford to offer the Turkey midfielder as much room as that again.
51' Ilic wastes a presentable crossing opportunity as his left-footed delivery sails over the heads of his waiting team-mates inside the Inter box. Another chance goes amiss for Juric's hosts to test Handanovic.
H. Çalhanoğlu
Yellow Card
50' Calhanoglu gets shown the first yellow card of the game after slicing down Buongiorno with a lunging tackle. Torino also get a free-kick in a good position to the left of the area.
49' The Torino faithful are in good voice as they back their team on the final matchday of the Serie A season. Inter appear unnerved for the moment, though, working possession around their backline with relative authority.
47' Brozovic has scored in both league games against a single opponent in a Serie A season for the third time: against Milan in 2019-20, Cagliari in 2017-18 and Torino in 2022-23. Can he add to his tally in this second half?
46' Both sides are back on the pitch and the second half gets under way as Inter take the kick-off!
In a game desperately lacking much quality, Brozovic's powerful opener proves the difference at the interval. Juric will be wondering what Torino can do to breach a well-drilled Inter defence, while Inzaghi will be hoping for more of the same to see out the domestic campaign with another victory.
Inter lead 1-0 at the break after Brozovic’s 37th-minute strike, which Milinkovic-Savic may feel he could have done better with. Torino have offered little in what has been a low-key affair thus far, with the Nerazzurri having one eye on Istanbul next weekend and Juric’s hosts with little to play for on the final matchday.
45' + 1' HALF-TIME: TORINO 0-1 INTER
45' Buongiorno steps in just when Torino need him as Brozovic fires a low ball across the face of goal. The centre-back was perfectly placed to deal with the danger inside his own six-yard area.
43' Calhanoglu's subsequent corner comes to nothing as Torino flick away a clearance at the near post. The Nerazzurri soon regain possession, slowly ramping up the pressure on their hosts, who appear in need of the half-time whistle.
41' Torino press high as Inter defenders exchange a few passes with Handanovic. The visitors then go long, with Dumfries seeing his low cross deflected behind for a corner by Schuurs.
39' Inzaghi's visitors have played the game with no real pace but finds themselves ahead. Such is the quality of this Inter team, they punish their opponents with any half-chance and Torino will have a long way back now.
R. Lukaku
Assist
37' Lukaku takes the credit for the assist after a simple pass finds Brozovic, who powers Inter into the lead after 37 minutes!
M. Brozović
Goal
37' GOOALLLLLLL! 1-0 INTER! Brozovic opens the scoring by drilling a left-footed attempt into the bottom-right corner. Torino initially offered the Croatia midfielder too much space outside the box following Lukaku’s offload and he makes them pay. Milinkovic-Savic may feel he should have done better with his attempted save, too.
36' SAVE! Ilic's left-footed corner finds Singo at the back post and the wing-back heads back across goal. Handanovic gets a strong hand to palm away before Inter hook a clearance out of their area.
36' Gosens flys into a well-timed challenge just as Singo looks to progress down the right flank. Ricci forces a corner from the resulting throw-in as Torino send their centre-backs forward to attack.
35' Torino haven’t won any of their last six home Serie A matches (D3, L3); the last time the Granata played more home games in a row in a single season without winning was in 2020-21 (12 on that occasion). They've played some nice stuff so far here, though, but can Juric's side find a way to break Inter's well-drilled defence?
33' CLOSE! Lukaku muscles his way into the area, twisting and turning to work some room on his favoured left foot. The Inter striker drills towards the bottom-right corner but a nick off a Torino defender deflects the chance just wide of the target. De Vrij heads straight at Milinkovic-Savic from the resulting corner.
31' Lukaku lurks at the back post but Schuurs does just enough to head away. Gagliardini tries another cross from the right-hand side, which Milinkovic-Savic claims in front of Martinez.
29' A woeful Calhanoglu cross gets easily dealt with by the Torino defence. Singo then makes good ground down the right flank as the home side break with pace before Inter recover.
27' This Serie A clash has been befitting of the permutations attached to it on the final matchday: with Inter and Torino playing for little. The Nerazzurri have been somewhat off the pace, while Juric's hosts have lacked any real quality up top.
25' Singo drives at Gosens and space opens up to test Handanovic. The Torino wing-back scuffs his left-footed chance and the Inter goalkeeper claims with ease.
24' Bastoni ventures forward into an unusual right-sided position, searching for the run of Lukaku inside the Torino area. However, Milinkovic-Savic reads his intentions all the way and intervenes before the Belgium striker gets a chance to pounce.
22' CHANCE! Calhanoglu's corner from the left-hand side makes it all the way to the back post, where Dumfries pulls the trigger with a left-footed attempt. Fortunately for Torino, the wing-back's effort loops kindly into the hands of Milinkovic-Savic after a deflection.
21' Calhanoglu breaks through the middle but his pass is poor to Martinez, who manages to win the first corner of the game as his low cross gets deflected behind.
20' Martinez hasn’t scored or assisted in his last three league games against Torino, after being involved in five goals in the previous four (four goals and one assist). The Inter striker has seen little of the ball so far here.
18' Despite their three-man defence making their way forward, Torino opt to go short from their free-kick. Vojvoda eventually musters a shooting opportunity but slips as his right-footed strike trickles wide to Handanovic's right.
17' Ilic receives another heavy tackle and goes down after a foul by Martinez. Torino get a free-kick in a good central position, with the hosts sending their three centre-backs up to attack.
15' Brozovic wanders into the opposition area, aiming to latch onto Martinez's offload after some more smart hold-up play from Lukaku. The ball ricochets kindly for Torino, though, as Milinkovic-Savic sweeps up any potential danger.
13' WIDE! Ricci ghosts inside from the left flank, driving through the Inter defence and creating space outside the area. The Torino midfielder whips a low right-footed effort towards the bottom-right corner but Handanovic watches it fly just wide of his goal.
12' Inter have won each of their last six Serie A matches played on the final day of the season: a record for the Nerazzurri in such fixtures in the competition.
11' Martinez throws himself to the floor outside the area and appeals for a free-kick. The referee shows no interest and waves play on as Inter regain possession and look to build from the back.
9' Another couple of fouls from Inter stem the flow of play as Ilic slowly ties his boots back up after going down on the right flank. Brozovic then brings down the Torino midfielder again, frustrating the hosts with the stop-start nature of the game thus far.
7' Bastoni is unimpressed after Ricci goes down following a foul near the right-hand touchline. The hosts prepare to swing a free-kick in as Inzaghi gestures wildly in his technical area.
5' Martinez bursts through the Torino defence after an offload through the middle from Lukaku. The World Cup-winning striker looks to dink Milinkovic-Savic but his right-footed chip sails over the target.
3' Miranchuk finds space inside the left-hand channel and sets his sights on the far corner. The Torino winger makes a mess of the effort, though, as he drags well wide of goal to the right with a left-footed drive.
2' Inzaghi's visitors soon settle into possession, patiently working the ball around the back and playing through Torino's press with ease. Lukaku gets a first touch before play is temporarily stopped as the referee checks the ball.
1' After pleasantries are exchanged between both sides prior to kick-off, referee Michael Fabbri gets the game under way at the Olimpico Grande Torino!
Inter could become the first team in Serie A history to end a 20-team campaign in third after losing 12 games; prior to this term, the best result for a team with the same defeats in a 38-game season was fourth place (five times, most recently Lazio in 2011-12).
Perhaps with focus on the Champions League final, Inzaghi makes five changes to his starting line-up that defeated Atalanta 3-2 last time out. Onana, D’Ambrosio, Acerbi and Barella all drop to the bench, while Federico Dimarco misses out entirely. Handanovic, De Vrij, Darmian, Gagliardini and Gosens all come in.
After thumping Spezia last week, it comes as no surprise that Juric makes no changes to his starting XI. Vlasic and Miranchuk flank Sanabria up top, while Torino opt for a three-man defence made up of Rodriguez, Buongiorno and Schuurs.
SUBSTITUTES: Alex Cordaz, Andre Onana, Edin Dzeko, Raoul Bellanova, Kristjan Asllani, Francesco Acerbi, Nicolo Barella, Danilo D’Ambrosio, Milan Skriniar, Dennis Curatolo, Ebenezer Akinsanmiro, Aleksandr Stankovic.
INTER (3-5-2): Samir Handanovic; Alessandro Bastoni, Stefan de Vrij, Matteo Darmian; Robin Gosens, Hakan Calhanoglu, Marcelo Brozovic, Roberto Gagliardini, Denzel Dumfries; Lautaro Martinez, Romelu Lukaku.
SUBSTITUTES: Matteo Fiorenza, Luca Gemello, Brian Bayeye, Andreaw Gravillon, David Zima, Yann Karamoh, Pietro Pellegri, Ronaldo Vieira, Michel Adopo, Demba Seck, Koffi Djidji, Ola Aina, Gvidas Gineitis, Karol Linetty.
TORINO (3-4-3): Vanja Milinkovic-Savic; Ricardo Rodriguez, Alessandro Buongiorno, Perr Schuurs; Mergim Vojvoda, Ivan Ilic, Samuele Ricci, Wilfried Singo; Nikola Vlasic, Antonio Sanabria, Aleksey Miranchuk.
In stark contrast to their hosts, Inter may have one eye on the Champions League final next weekend. The Nerazzurri have already secured qualification for the European competition next season after clinching a top-four spot in Serie A. A victory here for Simone Inzaghi’s side could see them leapfrog second-placed Lazio, who visit Empoli later on.
Torino’s domestic campaign comes to a close on Saturday as they prepare to host Inter. Ivan Juric’s side have little to play for in terms of their league standing, sitting ninth in the table after a 4-0 victory over Spezia last time out.
Hello and welcome to live coverage of the clash between Torino and Inter on the final matchday in Serie A this season!
