After conceding the first goal, Antonio Conceicao's men fought back to extend their supremacy in Group A

Vincent Aboubakar and Karl Toko-Ekambi scored a brace each as Cameroon hammered Ethiopia 4-1 in their second group outing at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

Thursday’s encounter started just like the opening game on Sunday with the host country conceding the first goal at the Olembe Stadium.

Ethiopia got off to a flying start with Dukele Hotessa firing them into the lead in the fourth minute after placing his right-footed shot past goalkeeper Andre Onana, but Cameroon responded four minutes later with Toko Ekambi’s header off Collins Fai’s cross for the equaliser.

The Indomitable Lions were unlucky not to go into the break ahead after dominating proceedings, however, Aboubakar put them in control with two quick-fire goals in the 53rd and 55th minutes while Toko-Ekambi wrapped up the emphatic result with another goal in the 67th minute, thanks to a through ball from Martin Hongla.

Conceicao made three changes to the team that defeated Burkina Faso 2-1 on Sunday, with Jean Castelletto, Eric Choupo-Moting and Hongla called to the starting XI as replacements for Jerome Onguene, Samuel Oum Gouet and Pierre Kunde.

Following his two-minute brace, Aboubakar becomes the first Cameroon player to score in three consecutive Afcon matches, since Samuel Eto’o achieved the feat in 2008.

The Al Nassr star is now the leading goalscorer in the continental showpiece with four goals after two games as Cameroon sit comfortably at the top of Group A with six points.

Their final group match is against second-placed Cape Verde on Monday while Ethiopia will be chasing their first win in the competition against Burkina Faso on that same day.
