Commentary

That's all from us, we hope you enjoyed the game. Until the next one, goodbye!
The points shared means the positions of these two sides in Group H stay the same, with PSG remaining on top via the additional goal they've scored. We're now halfway through the group stages, and with both sides four points clear of a Juventus team who only picked up their first win of the campaign in their corresponding match against Haifa, they'll both fancy their chances of reaching the knockout stages.
Messi's first-half equaliser ensures PSG head home with a point, but he did all in his power to try and make it three. He finished the game with two shots, one of which was blocked, three key passes and two good crosses, as well as completing all seven duels he undertook, five of which were via dribbles. He also won possession twice in the final third, and completed 25 passes in the same area, creating three scoring chances for his teammates.
That's that, and after a first half in which they were lucky not to be ahead, Benfica finish the second very grateful for a point! PSG threw all their might at the hosts in that second half, with Vlachodimos called into action time and time again, denying the visitors at every turn! Benfica did seldom have chances on the break, but the consensus in PSG's dressing room will certainly be that of two points dropped rather than one gained.
90' + 5' FULL-TIME: BENFICA 1-1 PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN.
M. Verratti
Yellow Card
90' + 4' Another Benfica break, this time from Pinho down the right, has PSG's defence at sixes and sevens. The substitute cuts inside before being felled by a woeful sliding challenge from Verratti, and the Italy midfielder is lucky to get away with just a yellow card there!
90' + 3' OVER!!! The corner is headed away, but Fabian Ruiz arrives late on the edge of the box and hammers a well struck half-volley over the bar!
90' + 2' Mbappe surges down the left at breakneck speed and attempts to cross, but the deflected ball goes behind for a corner off Otamendi!
Neymar
Yellow Card
90' + 1' Neymar is also booked, likely for a prior foul on Florentino in the build-up to a PSG attack.
Fabián Ruiz
Yellow Card
90' + 1' After his attempted pass to Mbappe is cut out, Fabian Ruiz chases Rafa as he attempts to break and shoves him over, picking up a yellow card for the foul.
Rodrigo Pinho
David Neres
90' + 1' Neres is next off for the hosts, and it's a like-for-like replacement in Rodrigo Pinho.
90' We'll play four minutes of added time to close out the second half.
90' Bernat races down the left before crossing, and Hakimi's head is centimetres away from connecting with the ball! Sarabia tries to pick up the pieces and cuts inside, but Antonio Silva hoofs it clear!
89' Neres gets around Danilo on the right before going down, but rather than a free-kick, a corner is given Benfica's way.
Fabián Ruiz
Vitinha
87' Vitinha's buzzing presence in midfield has helped PSG regain control of this game, but he's off now for Fabian Ruiz, who will be hoping to help his side find a winner in the last few minutes.
87' Sarabia cuts inside from the right and tries a shot from distance, but sends it wide of the far post and out for a goal kick.
86' PSG flood the box and both Neymar and Mbappe attempt to find shooting space, but both are repelled thanks to good defending from Antonio Silva.
85' A Sarabia corner is headed away, where Hakimi collects the ball and tries a shot from distance. It's blocked, and Benfica win a free-kick following a high boot from Verratti trying to get to the loose ball.
83' After a Benfica attack breaks down and Bah fouls Verratti, PSG play the ball forward quickly and Mbappe has it on the edge of the box. He smashes it across for Neymar, but the ball slips from under his studs and rolls out!
Pablo Sarabia
L. Messi
81' Messi has been at his creative best for PSG, but comes off now for Pablo Sarabia to see out the game!
81' SAVED!!! Rafa picks up a loose ball and turns for goal, beating two on his way into the box. His eventual shot is parried by Donnarumma, before the Benfica playmaker puts the rebound into the side netting!
80' CHANCE!!! Vitinha puts Messi through on goal, but a rare poor touch from the Argentine sends the ball into the grasp of Vlachodimos before he can pull the trigger!
79' CHANCE!!! Messi's first-time chipped pass in to the box finds Neymar perfectly, and he chests the ball down before a deflection takes it into the gloves of Vlachodimos!
79' Bernat slips a throughball forward for Mbappe, whose cut-back to Messi is put behind for a PSG corner by Otamendi.
F. Aursnes
E. Fernández
78' Fernandez also comes off for the hosts, replaced in midfield by Fredrik Aursnes.
J. Draxler
Gonçalo Ramos
78' Compared to the first 45 minutes, Goncalo Ramos has been starved of service in the second half, and comes off now for Julian Draxler, who is on loan at Benfica from PSG themselves!
76' Vlachodimos has made five saves in this game; the first time he has made at least 5 saves in a match in the Champions League since facing Liverpool last season.
74' Mbappe tries his luck from the right edge of the box, but sends his effort high and wide of the intended target!
73' The hosts break at speed and Rafa has a four-on-three overlap, but his wide ball to Neres is cut out by Danilo!
72' Mbappe attempts to get a run through on goal, but Antonio Silva nips in and passes back to Vlachodimos, who hoofs the ball away in a rushed clearance!
Gonçalo Ramos
Yellow Card
70' Goncalo Ramos catches Marquinhos in the face as the two contest Vlachodimos' goal-kick, and the Benfica striker is given a yellow card by the referee.
69' SAVED!!!! What a move!!! Messi dances between and beyond Benfica's midfield two before finding Mbappe, who hits a beautiful curling shot that is heading for the corner, before it's tipped around the post by a stretching Vlachodimos!
Juan Bernat
Nuno Mendes
67' Off comes Mendes in the first substitution of the game, and Juan Bernat will take his place at left-wing-back for the Parisians.
67' WIDE!!! Grimaldo's free-kick is fizzed across the face of goal, but Otamendi can't connect properly with his glancing header and the ball skews wide of the far post!
65' After Mendes' low cross into the box is intercepted, Benfica fly forward on the break and Neres releases Rafa. He evades Marquinhos before being clattered to the floor by Neymar, but despite the foul being on the right edge of the PSG box, the Brazilian avoids a booking!
63' Despite having most of the best chances in the first half, Benfica have had none whatsoever in the second, and have barely even been able to cross into PSG territory since the restart. The visitors are really putting the pressure on the Benfica defence with just under half an hour left to go in this game.
61' SAVED!!! Messi slaloms through midfield before finding Hakimi with a perfectly weighted pass, and the right-back's shot on goal is again tipped away by Vlachodimos!
59' Moments after releasing Mendes down the left, Messi does the same for Neymar, but he's clattered as he cuts inside by Antonio Silva and PSG have yet another chance to get the ball in the box.
57' SAVED!!! Neymar whips another free-kick into the box after Otamendi fouls Mendes. This time it's a cross though, which finds the head of Danilo, and Vlachodimos holds the headed effort at goal from the own-goal scorer!
55' SAVED!!! Vitinha is chopped down by Fernandez, and this time it's Neymar who hits the free-kick. From some 30 yards it's a perfect shot, looping over the wall before being parried by a strong hand from Vlachodimos!
54' Messi attempts to break down the left, but Florentino flies in and brings him to ground, conceding a free-kick in the process.
52' Verratti smashes through Rafa as the Benfica playmaker attempts to counter, but despite it being a really nasty challenge, there's no booking for the PSG midfielder!
51' SAVED!!! Otamendi is caught dawdling on the ball by Hakimi, who steals in and attempts to cut it back to Mbappe, but Vlachodimos puts it behind for a corner!
51' Messi flicks the ball forward for Neymar, and the Brazilian glides between Fernandez and Antonio Silva before attempting to find Hakimi, but the pass is too heavy and goes out over the touchline!
49' OFF THE BAR!!! What a chance!!! Mendes squares for Neymar, whose snatched shot is deflected away. Hakimi volleys back towards goal, but even a great save from Vlachodimos can only put the ball back into Neymar's path, and he flicks it up before firing an overhead kick that clips the top of the bar on its way over!
48' Should Mbappe score in this game, he would become PSG’s outright top scorer in the European Cup/Champions League. The Frenchman is currently level with Edinson Cavani on 30 goals, following his strike against Maccabi Haifa.
46' Rafa gets us back underway, and the second half is off and running in Lisbon!
Back come the teams for the second half, and can the hosts build on their equaliser to pull off a victory here?
Goncalo Ramos led the line superbly in the first half for the hosts, having three shots on target, as well as being the target for the cross that eventually went in off Danilo. He also contested two aerial duels, and won one tackle, and Benfica will hope for more of the same in the second half.
A hugely entertaining half draws to a close, with Benfica finally netting a deserved equaliser! The hosts were on top for most of the half, but unfortunately for them, and every other side on the planet, they don't have a player of Messi's quality in their side. PSG do of course, and he curled in the opener with arguably their only real chance of the half. Benfica hit back though, and finally got level thanks to Danilo's own goal, and it's all to play for in the second half!
45' + 3' HALF-TIME: BENFICA 1-1 PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN.
45' + 1' Verratti is still down and we're into injury time, but PSG's Italian midfielder does finally get to his feet, and is not happy with the challenge one bit!
E. Fernández
Yellow Card
45' A loose touch from Fernandez sees him fly into a 50-50 challenge with Verratti, who comes off worse despite winning the ball, and the Benfica midfielder is booked!
43' Benfica have now scored 3 goals in the last 15 minutes of the first half. Only Napoli, with four, have scored more in the Champions League so far this season.
Danilo Pereira
Own Goal
41' GOOOOAAAALLLL!!!! Benfica get their just reward!!!! Fernandez curls a teasing cross into the six-yard box, and it sails all the way into the far corner of the net!!! Goncalo Ramos was the target, but it's Danilo who gets the last touch, and that PSG own goal locks the game up at 1-1!
41' A flick from Neres gives Goncalo Ramos shooting space, but he attempts to find the Brazilian again and it's cut out!
39' In the first two matchdays, no team generated more shots from high turnovers than Benfica's six so far this season. Indeed, Roger Schmidt’s side were one of just six sides to produce a goal after a high turnover in this period.
37' SAVED!!!! From a corner won by Mario, Benfica pass the ball around in the PSG box and Neres beats three before squaring to Antonio Silva. His first-time shot looks destined to find the net, but a diving Donnarumma parries it behind!
36' PSG manager Christophe Galtier is looking to become just the third coach to win his first three Champions League games in charge, after Luis Fernandez in 1994-95 and Laurent Blanc in 2013-14.
34' Mbappe crosses from the byline for Hakimi at the back post, but pressure from Grimaldo means he can't get a clean connection with his header and the chance goes begging!
32' SAVED!!! After Messi runs out of room on the left, he passes inside to Vitinha. He looks to curl a shot towards goal from 20 yards, but it's held by Vlachodimos!
30' Mario thumps a cross into the area from the right wing, but Donnarumma catches with ease and looks to start a counter-attack!
29' Benfica have won all five of the previous occasions they’ve hosted a French opponent in the Champions League, beating four different sides along the way (Lyon twice, Lille, PSG, and Monaco).
27' More risky play at the back from PSG as Hakimi is dispossessed by Grimaldo, but Goncalo Ramos can't control the loose ball and Sergio Ramos clears it!
25' CHANCE!!! Rafa's flicked header is latched onto by Goncalo Ramos, whose flying volley from the edge of the box loops into the air and is caught by Donnarumma!
24' PSG have only lost one of their previous 11 games in the group stage of the Champions League, with that lone defeat coming away to Manchester City in November 2021.
Neymar
Assist
22' The link-up play between PSG's front three there was just mesmeric, and Neymar gave Messi a pass that was just too enticing not to put into the net!
L. Messi
Goal
22' GOOOOAAAALLLL!!!! What a finish!!! The PSG big three combine once again, as Messi lays off Mbappe, who finds Neymar, and he tees up Messi to curl a beauty of a shot into the top corner! In their first real chance of a game dominated by the home side, the visitors lead 1-0!
20' Benfica have won five of their last six home games in the Champions League group stage, with four of those victories being to nil. This is many victories as they had in the 16 such games beforehand, between the start of 2014-15 and matchday one of 2019-20.
18' SAVED!!! Rafa puts Neres searing into the box, and after beating Mendes he shoots, but Donnarumma tips it wide of the far post!
17' Benfica break as Mario bypasses the PSG midfield before feeding Rafa with a throughball. He swivels around, then between Marquinhos and Danilo, before being brought down on the edge of the box by the latter and losing the ball!
16' After Otamendi brings down Mbappe 25 yards from goal, Messi steps up to strike the free-kick, but the wall does its job and the PSG forward is denied!
14' SAVED!! Mario finds Goncalo Ramos centrally and the striker lets fly from 25 yards, sending a shot into the gloves of Donnarumma, who parries before collecting the loose ball!
12' Neres jinks inside Mendes and heads towards the box, also evading Verratti before Danilo dispossesses him with a superbly timed tackle!
11' PSG have lost all three of their previous away games against Benfica in European competition – twice in the UEFA Cup/Europa League, and most recently in the Champions League in 2013.
9' A risky pass across the face of his own goal by Sergio Ramos is mis-controlled by Danilo, and it goes out over the line for a needless Benfica corner!
8' SAVED!!! Goncalo Ramos peels off Marquinhos and races onto Otamendi's long ball forward from deep. He's bearing down on goal, but Marquinhos is close to him, and gets a touch on the shot, which Donnarumma still does very well to stop!
7' Mario comes down the left but loses out to Marquinhos, but he again puts Donnarumma in trouble with a short pass in the box, that Goncalo Ramos very nearly intercepts!
5' Running into space created by Neymar, Mendes attempts a cross from the left, but Florentino wraps around and blocks the ball behind for a corner!
4' Rafa's flick and Fernandez's throughball almost puts Goncalo Ramos through on goal, but he's driven wide and Neres' cross back into the area is cleared!
3' This is the seventh meeting between Benfica and Paris Saint-Germain in European competition, with the Portuguese side winning half of the previous six. The last meeting between the two sides was a 2-1 home victory for Benfica in the 2013-14 group stage, where they came from a goal down to win.
1' CHANCE!!! A risky Marquinhos backpass and a poor touch from Sergio Ramos almost puts PSG in a world of trouble inside their own box, but Danilo recovers the ball on the goal-line and clears it!
1' Mbappe kicks off for PSG, and we are underway at Estadio Da Luz!
The two sides run out onto the pitch, and we are just moments away from kick-off!
The PSG 'big three' of Mbappe, Neymar and Messi all found the net in the win over Maccabi Haifa, and all three start in attack for PSG in Lisbon. Messi also provided an assist to accompany his goal – in the last six seasons in the competition, the Argentina international has scored and assisted in a match on more occasions than any other player (eight).
Joao Mario's penalty got Benfica's comeback victory over Juve underway, and it was completed by David Neres, who starts on the right flank, with Mario on the left, looking to do similar damage to the PSG rearguard.
