Orlando Pirates Player Ratings: Lepasa tamed as Saleng proves a point against Richards Bay

Zakhele Lepasa, Orlando Pirates, September 2022
The Buccaneers stretched their winless run to three matches across all competitions on Saturday night.

Orlando Pirates were held to a 0-0 draw by a stubborn Richards Bay side in a PSL encounter that was played at Orlando Stadium.

The draw extended the Soweto giants' winless run to three games across all competitions and this has created a bit of pressure on coach Jose Riveiro.

The Spanish tactician deployed Zakhele Lepasa as the targetman against the Natal Rich Boys, but the Bafana Bafana striker was neutralized by the visitors.

GOAL rates the performances of the Bucs players following the game against Richards Bay.

  • Siyabonga Mpontshane, Orlando Pirates, March 2022

    Siyabonga Mpontshane - 6/10

    Not tested on the night.

Mpontshane was relatively untroubled throughout the game without making a single save. He marked his first appearance of the term with a clean sheet.

  • Bandile Shandu Orlando Pirates 2022.

    Bandile Shandu - 6/10

    Not a particularly eye-catching performance.

Shandu was comfortable on the ball, but his final product was not good enough. He hardly needed to use his pace to track back as Bucs dominated the game.

  • Deon Hotto, Orlando Pirates, August 2022

    Deon Hotto - 6.5/10

    Deployed as a left-wing back.

Hotto always ventured forward but none of his deliveries had the results he would have liked on Saturday. He was solid defensively - keeping Luvuyo Memela quiet.

  • Olisa Ndah, Orlando Pirates, September 2022

    Olisa Ndah - 8/10

Dazzled on his return to the team.

Ndah held his position in a three-man defence very well. He was also a threat in the opposition's box - forcing goalkeeper Salim Magoola into two fantastic saves.

  • Nkosinathi Sibisi Orlando Pirates 2020.

    Nkosinathi Sibisi - 7/10

Contained Richards Bay's dangerman Somila Ntsundwana.

Sibisi had a fairly comfortable night despite having to deal with the presence of Ntsundwana who was substituted towards the end of the game

  • Innocent Maela, Orlando Pirates, August 2022

    Innoncent Maela - 7/10

Had a slow start to the game.

This is mainly because Richards Bay did not attack much. However, he was solid in defence when the visitors launched counter-attacks after the restart.

  • Miguel Timm Orlando Pirates.

    Miguel Timm - 7/10

An improved display after Tuesday's poor performance against Sekhukhune United.

Timm dominated the midfield battle - showing tremendous grit in the middle of the park as he protected the Bucs defence and also passed the ball well.

  • Goodman Mosele, Orlando Pirates, August 2022

    Goodman Mosele - 6.5/10

    Full of running in midfield.

Mosele took up some great positions in advanced areas as he helped Pirates move the ball upfield. Unfortunately, he was substituted after the restart due to an injury.

  • Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo, Orlando Pirates, October 2022

    Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo - 5/10

    Looked average.

Ndlondlo's influence on the game was minimal, failing to create chances as most of his passes were intercepted and he never tested Magoola in the visitors' goal-posts.

  • Monnapule Saleng, Orlando Pirates, October 2022

    Monnapule Saleng - 7/10

Surprisingly started ahead of Vincent Pule and he didn't disappoint.

Saleng was a thorn in Richards Bay's side with incisive runs with the ball and perfect delivery from set pieces.

Pirates looked dangerous whenever he was in possession of the ball as he proved that he deserves to start games for the Soweto giants.

  • Zakhele Lepasa Orlando Pirates.

    Zakhele Lepasa - 5/10

Tamed by the Natal Rich Boys' defence.

Lepasa was totally anonymous in the game with Man of the Match Simphiwe Mcineka neutralising him until he was substituted just after the hour-mark.

  • Collins Makgaka, Orlando Pirates, November 2021

    Collins Makgaka - 6/10

Injected some pace into the Bucs attack when he was introduced in the 58th minute and he came close to scoring when his headed effort was cleared off the goal line.

  • Terrence Dzvukamanja, Orlando Pirates, December 2021

    Terrence Dzvukamanja 5.5/10

Took up some good positions in Richards Bay's box, but he couldn't keep his headers on target having been introduced in the 67th minute.

  • Tapelo Xoki, Orlando Pirates, September 2022

    Tapleo Xoki - 5.5/10

Came on in the 67th minute and he was not tested defensively which allowed him to push forward and force Magoola into a spectacular fingertipping save with a header.

  • Bienvenu Eva Nga, Orlando Pirates, August 2022

    Bienevnue Eva Nga - 5/10

Introduced in the 77th minute and never posed a threat to the visitors' defence and he failed to register a shot at goal.

  • Paseka Mako, Orlando Pirates, October 2021

    Paseko Mako - 5/10

Looked sharp on the overlap, but his crosses were either cleared away or handled by Magoola with ease having been introduced with 13 minutes left.
